IDW Games announces the Kill Shakespeare Art Team

Today, IDW Games announced it had signed J.K. Woodward and Dave Dorman to be the art team for their launch title, Kill Shakespeare. Woodward’s work has been a mainstay at IDW since 2005, where he helped relaunch Fallen Angel before moving on to various Star Trek series, including last-year’s best-selling Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who maxi-series. Dave Dorman is an Eisner Award-winning artist known for his extensive work in the fantasy genre, including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and much more.

Woodward has been brought on to create the art that will be featured on the playing cards for the game while Dorman will paint an original piece for the Kill Shakespeare box’s art. This debut title has a planned release date of June 2014.

With a release date of next summer, the news is starting to heat up for IDW Games. Fans can go to www.idwgames.com and subscribe to a newsletter that will keep them up to date on all the latest announcements and developments.

Comic Creators Raise Funds for Sandy Relief

Numerous individuals involved in the comic book community have taken to the tubes to help raise funds for charity involved with the recent storm Sandy, or raising funds to replace damage they themselves suffered.

Art for Sandy Relief is an effort by Rich Ginter and Jim Viscardi. Viscardi currently works at Marvel in New York, while Rich left Marvel earlier this year to take a job as a digital designer in Disney’s publishing department in Glendale, Calif. Currently their plan is to donate to the Steven Siller Tunnels to Towers Hurricane Relief effort. This charity does a lot of work in the New York and New Jersey area, and they wanted to give the donation to a local charity where they know the money will go to the places that need help the most.

Current works for auction are:

If you’re an artist or writer and want to donate something yourself — send over an email to artforsandyrelief@gmail.com. They’ve also set up a PayPal donation site where people can choose any amount they wish to donate at this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=L2VWUF2NQXKKS

J.K. Woodward also lost everything in the storm. His home was lost along with almost everything we own. He’s currently coming up with some fund raising ideas to get his family back on their feet and into a home where they can start to rebuild.

The first step is to sell some original pages from his work on the Star Trek TNG/DoctorWho: Assimilation2 series. He has pages and covers available through Cadence Comic Art. There are some great deals to be found there if you act quickly.

The second step is to make prints from previous works and commissions to sell as prints. This will be a limited 2 week sale and all prints are signed. You can check out the prints for sale at his site.

Molly Crabapple is donating $40 per print to New York Communities for Change.

The American Red Cross and Indiegogo have partnered to take fundraising to the next level, by empowering people around the world to launch their own fundraising campaigns for Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief.

Indiegog is waiving all fees for these campaigns – 100% of donations will go directly to the Red Cross for campaigns created by November 30, 2012.

Start a campaign and help hurricane victims rebuild and recover today.

Fighting Lion Comics Launches with Brik Jones and Human: Oceanic

Fighting Lion Comics is a new comic book print and web publisher which launched recently at Stan Lee’s Comikaze convention. They’re now launching their  first title Brik Jones: Attorney For Earth with a limited edition Ashcan comic book written by Phil Smith and illustrated by Sid Kotian.

Brik Jones is slated for 5 issues and is in the process of becoming a print and web comic. Issues will be sold periodically as they are completed. The Fighting Lion Comics website will act as part production blog and part webcomic showing off the series as it progresses.

Who is Brik Jones? The character is the Interstellar appointed Attorney for Earth. The Ashcan story, “The Case of Case number 69” is more of a “day in the life” type of story told well after the classic comics style origin story. The Origin Story? That will be forthcoming in future installments via web and print. At this time we are securing an artist for the first 5 issue arc. Sid had time in his schedule between bookings to do this installment for which I am very grateful!

Following the success of the launch at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Fighting Lion Comics is looking to kick off the limited series. The publisher is currently looking for an artist to commit to the series for the first 5 issues.

Fighting Lion Comics has also launched a Kickstarter campaign for Human: Oceanic a 160 page, digest sized, hard cover with dust jacket. The graphic novel is written by Phil Smith and illustrated by J.K. Woodward.
