TV Review: iZombie S2E19 Salvation Army

Season 2 ends with Liv, Babineaux and Major crashing Vaughn’s Super Max Rager party, where Rob Thomas performs a song from his solo career. Meanwhile, Blaine reaches out to Peyton for help, which does not sit well with Ravi.

iZombie wraps up the second season with an over the top episode that’s bloody fun. The finale wraps up the Chaos Killer storyline along with the Max Rager story in an episode that does tie together so many plot lines that date back to the first season.

First, the episode has a lot of fun with singer Rob Thomas who makes an appearance. For those that don’t know a different Rob Thomas is the producer of the show, and the two are often mixed up. So, the show decides to end that issue in some ways…. Though Thomas didn’t do himself any favor as he sounded horrible singing.

Now, on to the things that matter.

There’s a big party and zombie outbreak which has Liv, Major, and Babineaux going hardcore zombie killers with lots and lots of action. Plot lines are completely shut down, and only one from this season really remains open (Blaine).

But, the episode gives us a hell of a twist at the end which should make one hell of a third season. This second season has been a bit of a hit and miss, mostly hits, but the show wraps things up nicely not taking itself too seriously.

Can’t wait to see what the show does next!

TV Review: iZombie S2E18 Dead Beat

Liv and Ravi need help and find an unlikely ally in Blaine; Babineaux and Dale Bozzio pursue a new lead in an old case; sleazy Brant Stone comes to Major’s rescue; Vaughn’s evil side reaches a whole new level of mean.

iZombie begins to wrap up its second season with this first part of the two part season finale. This episode alone is worthy of being the finale itself with lots of twists, turns, and reveals, some of which I didn’t expect at all.

Yeah, there’s just so much in this episode alone and to go into a lot of it, it’d just ruin it all, but the series goes places I didn’t expect at all and there’s reveals I didn’t expect to happen for a bit longer.

The episode completely circles around Major and his arrest as the Chaos Killer. There’s lots of predictable things presented, but what the episode does really well as treat the whole situation as a ticking time bomb until Major turns in jail and all hell breaks loose. That is pretty fun I think and something that’s new to the series.

There’s one huge thing at the end of the episode that will possibly change a character in a major way, and changing characters is a common thing in this episode. There’s a bunch of that, lots of that. And team zombie looks to be expanding in many ways.

The end of the episode sets up what should be one hell of a season finale… luckily we don’t have to wait long to see it.

TV Review: iZombie S2E17 Reflections of the Way Liv Used to Be

Liv and Babineaux investigate the murder of a type-A, ambitious hyper competitive and driven student near the top of her class. Liv consumes her brains and becomes very much like the girl she used to be before she was a zombie. Meanwhile, things go from bad to worse for Major.

iZombie is entertaining with so many characters playing against their character. Liv, Blaine, Major, they’re all different here as things get flipped around last episode and things got a bit weird.

Because of that, the episode is a hell of a lot of fun!

Blaine doesn’t remember anything which creates a lot of fun and interesting situations as he figures out his past life and who everyone is. It’s a solid performance and once that again throws the character in this gray area where he’s not that bad, at least not totally bad.

Major has some major movement in his character and the Chaos Killer storyline, a story I hate. He’s decent in what he does and some of his lines, at least how he delivers them, is entertaining.

Liv does her usual taking on characteristics of the brain she eats, but Rose McIver who usually steals the show, is actually the least entertaining character and performance. The award goes to Blaine this week.

The episode does a solid job of entertaining, moving the story along and especially developing the characters a lot. It’s a great mix and good example of packing a lot into the episode, and how to do that with a great pacing. So many things are coming together, it’s pretty impressive.

And that ending! Things should get even more interesting from here with an extra long season finale to go!

TV Review: iZombie S2E15 He Blinded Me… With Science

A research scientist who was recently demoted at her job is murdered. Liv and Babineaux investigate and are shocked to learn where the victim had been employed. Meanwhile, Blaine pays Ravi a visit at the morgue.

iZombie is another ok episode this time moving various plot lines along while doing another whodunit murder case. Blaine and Liv are both entertaining with Blaine actually stealing the show as he’s returned from the grave. It’s the highlight of the episode with acting that gives Liv a run for her money of being the center of things.

Both Blaine and Liv eat the same scientist brain, so they share some similar habits. But, their actions beg the question, why haven’t they tried to eat brains that’d specifically help them cure the zombie virus before? It’s not an easy task, but it’s one you’d think would be worth the effort as it could get them all very ahead of things.

There’s some other loose ends including Liv’s dating life (which having a scientist brain how she deals with Drake is rather funny). There’s also Max Rager which is getting rather ludicrous in being the bad guy who is clearly the bad guy.

This episode is really all about Blaine. He steals the show as he comes back from the dead and also ponders life and his role in it.

And that ending…. that’s a nice twist of things in many ways.

TV Review: iZombie S2E12 Physician, Heal Thy Selfie

Babineaux and Liv investigate a triple homicide in which the victims’ heads are missing. A ravenous Liv is forced to eat the brain of a social media-hungry soul who was recently run over by a bus. Meanwhile, Peyton leans on Ravi for support.

iZombie is an ok episode and a pivot from previous ones in that the show isn’t centered around Liv and her personality. In this one, it’s a random brain which has Liv texting and Tweeting, and do kids really talk like that? Really the point of this episode is all about Mr. Boss, the serial killer, and Max Rager.

This is an episode that I’d call the bridge whose goal is to move the bigger plot along. These types of episodes tend to be not as good as other episodes, and this one falls squarely in that.

It does what it needs to do moving various parts along, but there’s nothing memorable about the episode if that makes sense. There’s no really funny moments, though Ravi comes closest when it comes to that. Liv’s new personality isn’t super interesting. And everything else is just, ok.

It’s not a bad episode, don’t get me wrong, it’s just missing the fun quirky sense the series usually has. But, it does it’s job, and that’s quickly move the various plot points along.

TV Review: iZombie S2E11 Fifty Shades of Grey Matter

Live and Clive investigate the murder of a young librarian who was secretly an erotic fiction writer. Meanwhile, things heat up between Blaine and someone unexpected; and Major is hit with an unforeseen snag in his plan.

iZombie is an interesting one tonight with Liv getting down with her dirty side as she eats the brain of an erotic fiction writer after a murder. As usual, it’s Rose McIver as Liv that’s the draw as she gets down with her sexy self.. and says some hilarious stuff while doing so. I actually found myself laughing at some of what she says, and how she says it. If it was written that way I won’t know, but the delivery is spot on.

The other big thing in the episode is Blaine’s story as detectives begin to circle around him and wanting to peg him for the various murders.

This plot line of the series is getting much better, especially where Major is concerned. He has to make some decisions about something that’d tie him to the murders, and it’s a bit heartbreaking. But, it also gets rid of a rather idiotic part of the plot and that character.

The series is doing a good job pivoting. While Liv is still the star, this season is focusing elsewhere a bit as various stories from last season are moved forward. This episode especially shows off how to do the show without everything circling around her.

Overall, after another break, a solid return and episode.

TV Review: iZombie S2E10 Method Head

Liv is crushed when she discovers that the lead acotr on her favorite show, “Zombie High,” has been murdered on set. Meanwhile, Vaughn tests Major’s loyalty; Ravi delivers some bad new; and Blaine receives an unexpected visitor.

iZombie returns after a break for a new episode that brings the humor in a weird meta spin involving a death of an actor on a show about zombies. The humor is sharp, some times poking fun at iZombie itself, and as always Liv is the draw.

But, for once it isn’t her acting as a different personality. Instead the draw is Liv being a big geek and fangirling out over the show they’re investigating.

All of that does a great job mixing things together and changing things up a bit with the formula of the show.

The episode is a solid one with Liv not relying on quirky brains to be an interesting character. The show also shows off solid humor, making fun of itself. A great return and more of this please!
