USA Network Picks Up Brooklyn Animal Control for Pilot

brooklyn animal controlUSA Network announced a pilot pick-up for Brooklyn Animal Control. The project is written and executive produced by JT Petty. David S. Goyer, Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs and David Alpert, and IDW Entertainment’s David Ozer and Ted Adams, will also executive produce. Brooklyn Animal Control is based on the IDW Publishing comic book created by Petty and is a co-production with Universal Cable Productions and IDW Entertainment.

Brooklyn Animal Control follows the inner workings of a secret subdivision of the NYPD that functions as social services for some of the city’s most unique citizens — werewolves.  Delving into the lives of both the Case Officers, and the secretive, highly insular Kveld-Ulf, a community of werewolves living deep in the borough, Brooklyn Animal Control will examine city politics, immigrant communities, and families divided by ambition, secrecy, and tradition.

In addition, USA Network recently announced a pilot pick-up for Poor Richard’s Almanack, a co-production between Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions, the project is from executive producer Jim Danger Gray and consulting producer Miguel Sapochnik.  Previously announced pick-ups also include the Universal Cable Production dramas Falling Water from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Entertainment, Blake Masters and the late Emmy Award-winner Henry Bromell, and Paradise Pictures from executive producer Aaron Korsh and Rick Muirragui.

SyFy Acquires Wynonna Earp from Seven24 Films and IDW Entertainment

SEVEN24 Films and IDW Entertainment announced today that Syfy has acquired the U.S. rights to Wynonna Earp, a live action television series based on the IDW Publishing comic created by Beau Smith. Emily Andras developed the series for television and will serve as Executive Producer and Showrunner.

With an initial order of 13 one-hour episodes, Wynonna Earp is a fast-paced, contemporary thriller that follows Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter as she battles demons and other supernatural beings. Wynonna is a witty and wild modern day gunslinger, using her unique abilities and a dysfunctional posse of allies to bring the paranormal to justice.  The series is scheduled to premiere in April 2016.

Melanie Scrofano will star as Wynonna Earp. Tim Rozon will play legendary con artist Doc Holliday, and Shamier Anderson plays the mysterious Agent Dolls.

Wynonna Earp will be produced in Calgary by SEVEN24 Films, and distributed by IDW Entertainment. Production is slated to begin in August. SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall and Tom Cox will serve as Executive Producers.

IDW CEO & Publisher Ted Adams, David Ozer, Peleton Entertainment’s Todd Berger, and Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs packaged and facilitated financing for the series.

CTM Media Holdings to Become IDW Media Holdings

IDW Media HoldingsCTM Media Holdings, Inc., a holding company consisting of CTM Media Group and a majority interest in IDW, announced today that it will begin operating under the name IDW Media Holdings to reflect the growth of IDW as its principal line of business, and Ted Adams, a founding partner and current CEO and Publisher of IDW, will take over as CEO of IDW Media Holdings.

A holding company is a company that doesn’t actually produce and goods or services, it just owns shares of other companies and forms a corporate group. It helps owners control a number of different companies and reduces the risk for owners.

IDW Media Holdings, Inc. will be an integrated media company consisting of IDW Publishing, the award-winning, San Diego-based comic-book and graphic novel publisher; CTM Media Group, a distributor of print and digital advertising; IDW Entertainment, the television-development arm of IDW Publishing; San Diego Comic Art Gallery, a new comic art gallery space launching in summer 2015; Ettractions, a travel-based web portal; Top Shelf Productions, a publisher of independent and creator-driven graphic novels; IDW Games, producer of tabletop board games and card games; and IDW Limited, the high-end print collectibles division of IDW Publishing.

CTM Media Holdings currently has two classes of common stock listed on the OTC Pink Sheets Pink Tier under the symbols CTMMA and CTMMB.  As part of an integrated effort to boost the presence of the Company, IDW Media Holdings will register its common stock under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and seek to list its shares on a national securities exchange with a ticker symbol reflecting its updated identity.

IDW Entertainment Signs With William Morris Endeavor

idw entertainmentIDW Entertainment, a division of leading comic book publisher IDW Publishing, has signed with William Morris Endeavor (WME), one of the world’s leading talent agencies, for representation. WME will represent all film and television projects for the company. The announcement was made by David Ozer, President, IDW Entertainment.

IDW Entertainment was launched in November 2013 to finance the development and production of television adaptations of IDW Publishing’s award-winning catalog.

IDW Entertainment and Entertainment One Bring Cobb to Television

idw entertainmentIDW Entertainment and Entertainment One Television (eOne Television) announced that Secret Service drama COBB is being developed for television under their first-look co-production agreement.

COBB is being developed as a television series and is based on the acclaimed IDW Publishing property written by Beau Smith. Veteran television writer and producer Thania St. John is writing the pilot and will serve as showrunner on the series.

entertainment eoneCOBB is a conspiracy thriller following Frank Cobb, a top ranking Secret Service agent, whose life gets turned upside down when he is removed from active duty after stumbling onto a deadly conspiracy at the highest global level. He must win back his reputation and save the newly elected President of the United States.

Executive Producing the series are Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment, John Morayniss, Michael Rosenberg, and Benedict Carver from eOne, and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs from Circle of Confusion.

IDW Entertainment and eOne Television entered into a partnership in April 2014 to co-develop, co-fund and co-produce television series based on IDW’s extensive library of over 300 original properties, with the intent of securing direct-to-series commitments for network and cable television. The companies will jointly represent the U.S. network sales, and eOne will be responsible for the international distribution of programming.

IDW to bring Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency to TV and Comics

max landisIDW Entertainment and Ideate Media announced today they have optioned the worldwide rights to Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency novels. IDWE and Ideate have formed a partnership to co-fund development and co-produce with the intent of securing a direct-to-series commitment. Circle of Confusion will Executive Produce.

Max Landis has been tapped to write the pilot and Executive Produce. Max is the writer of feature films Chronicle, upcoming American Ultra starring Kirsten Stewart & Jesse Eisenberg, and upcoming Frankenstein starring Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy. Max will also make his directorial debut with the comedy Me, Him, Her starring Haley Joel Osment and Geena Davis in 2015.

After creating the phenomenon that was The Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams went on to write a series of best-selling novels about Dirk Gently, a detective with a belief in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things, a unique relationship with the laws of probability and physics, and a love of cats and pizza.

Dirk Gently is a charismatic, mysterious, troubled, brilliant, figure – cursed with a relentless intellect, psychic powers he doesn’t fully understand or want, a gift for self-mythologizing, and a supernatural ability to detect disturbances in the fabric of reality, Dirk has found a strange calling as a private detective for impossible crimes.

Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment, Arvind Ethan David and Zainir Aminullah of Ideate, and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs from Circle of Confusion will serve as executive producers.

In addition to the television series, IDW Publishing & Ideate Media will develop a series of Dirk Gently comic books for release next spring.

IDW and Xbox Team Up for Winterworld Limited Event Series

Xbox Entertainment Studio, the Microsoft division that produces original programming for the Xbox brand, announced today that they are co-developing with IDW EntertainmentWinterworld as a limited event live-action series based on the acclaimed comic series created by writer Chuck Dixon and artist Jorge ZaffinoWinterworld joins an impressive line-up of dramas, documentaries, and reality television shows being developed by Xbox Entertainment Studios to be debuted and aired on the Xbox platform.

Executive producing the series with Xbox Entertainment Studios are Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment, and Rick Jacobs and Dave Alpert from Circle of Confusion.

“Xbox is recognized globally for their groundbreaking creativity. IDW Entertainment could not ask for a better partner to bring Winterworld to life,” said David Ozer, President of IDW Entertainment, “We are thrilled to be working with them during this exciting time in their growth.”

Winterworld takes place in an apocalyptic future where our world has been encased in ice from pole-to-pole. The surviving humans have formed tribes that war, enslave and trade with one another in an effort to survive the infinite winter.

“To see my stories and Jorge’s powerful images brought to life will be a serious thrill,” said writer Chuck Dixon, “We have the right partners and the right format to really make this something special. It’s an exciting time in comics and in entertainment overall and I am very pleased that Winterworld will be a part of it.”

The comic book series was originally published in the late 1980’s. This June, IDW Publishing is bringing Mr. Dixon back to continue this brutal tale with comic industry favorite, Butch Guice on art.

Wondercon 2014: IDW Rolls Out a Ton of Announcements

At this year’s WonderCon in Anaheim, IDW unleashed an impressive array of announcements, bolstering its lineup through the fall of 2014 and beyond. Brand-new titles, miniseries featuring fan-favorite characters, new Artist’s Editions, new television deals, and a first-of-its-kind exclusive creator deal rounded out the action-packed weekend. We’ll be covering each of these announcements in a bit more depth over the next few days, but for those who want to know all the goings on now, here’s a handy breakdown of every announced!

IDW has secured the amazing talents of Locke & Key co-creator Gabriel Rodriguez by signing him to an exclusive deal. His work has appeared in IDW comics since the very beginning, and will continue to do so exclusively, with his next project being the hotly anticipated Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland with Eisner Award-winning writer, Eric Shanower.

IDW Entertainment, along with George Lopez and his Travieso Production Company, announced they are developing Wormwood as an animated television series based on the acclaimed IDW title created by Ben Templesmith. David M. Stern (Ugly Americans, The Simpsons) has been tapped to write the pilot episode and serve as an executive producer on the series. Circle of Confusion (Walking Dead) will also executive produce the show. IDW Entertainment will fund development of the series, which will soon be marketed to the networks.

At the Artist’s Edition panel, Special Projects Editor Scott Dunbier showed off some of the amazing art included in the Marvel Cover’s Artist’s Edition and announced that John Buscema’s Silver Surfer (in cooperation with Marvel Comics), and two more projects with Walter Simonson, Walter Simonson’s Manhunter & Other Stories (in cooperation with DC Entertainment), and Walter Simonson’s Lawnmower Man Artist’s Edition portfolio, collecting the entire Stephen King-penned story into a deluxe portfolio, will soon join the IDW Artist’s Edition catalog!

The acclaimed videogame franchise Borderlands is returning to IDW with a brand new miniseries “The Fall Of Fyrestone.” Written by the original game writer Mikey Neumann, the new series promises the dark humor and high-end action that fans love about the videogames.

IDW’s Star Trek comics continue to break new ground and delight fans with two stories that are Star Trek “firsts.” Star Trek #35 starts “The Q Gambit,” which crosses the paths of the omnipotent (and beloved) Q and the crew of the recent 2009 film franchise for the first time. In July, fans will get the chance to see all six Star Trek medical officers ban together for the first time as they fight a mysterious virus in the one-shot Star Trek Special: Flesh and Stone.

Traveling back to the ‘40s, the new miniseries The X-Files: Year Zero by writer Karl Kesel and artists Vic Malhotra and Greg Scott explores the mysterious origins of the department and the strange connections Mulder and Scully now find themselves up against.

A new five-part miniseries set in the world of Judge Dredd focusing on Judge Anderson will debut this August: Judge Dredd: Anderson, Psi-Division, by writer Matt Smith and artist Carl Critchlow, will continue to explore Dredd’s early years in this follow-up to Smith’s Judge Dredd: Year One series.

IDW returns to Konami’s horror masterpiece with Silent Hill Downpour: Anne’s Story. Written by Tom Waltz (Silent Hill: Sinner’s Reward, Silent Hill: Past Life and the Silent Hill Downpour video game), with artwork by Tristan Jones (Ghostbusters, Hoax Hunters). Waltz, further acclaimed for his writing on IDW’s ongoing TMNT revival, will also launch a sci-fi action-adventure epic with artist Casey Maloney, The Last Fall.

The partnership between IDW and 44FLOOD was announced at New York Comic-Con 2013, and this weekend it was made public that the second release from this collaboration is Ben Templesmith’s The Squidder, a new four-issue series coming this August.

Also on the creator-owned front, Angel: After the Fall fan-favorite writer Brian Lynch will launch Monster Motors in July. Announced at “The Greatest Panel in the Known Universe,” the action-comedy features art and cover by Transformers artist Nick Roche.

Transformers: Primacy is coming this August! Writers Chris Metzen and Flint Dille with artist Livio Ramondelli guide us through the war for Cybertron that will shake the world of the TRANSFORMERS to the core, in this, the final chapter of the Cybertron War trilogy.

And finally (for now), IDW’s partnership with Darby Pop Publishing grows with the upcoming July release of Doberman. From the minds of Rob Rosell and Scott Marder, known from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Unsupervised, with writer Jack Lambert and artist Brandon McKinney (Army of Two) the story of Frank Doberman comes to life and he wants a six-pack and vengeance!

IDW Entertainment and Entertainment One Sign First-Look Development and Production Deal

IDW Entertainment, the newly launched division of comic book powerhouse IDW Publishing, and Entertainment One Television, have entered into a partnership to co-develop, co-fund and co-produce television series based on IDW’s extensive library of over 300 original properties. The announcement was made today by David Ozer, President of IDW Entertainment and John Morayniss, CEO, eOne Television in a release.

eOne and IDW will fully fund development of each project with the intent of securing direct-to-series commitments for network and cable television. IDW Publishing CEO Ted Adams and Ozer will serve as Executive Producers on the projects, as will Morayniss and Benedict Carver, eOne’s SVP of Filmed Entertainment, who will oversee the deal on behalf of eOne.

Circle of Confusion will take the lead in driving the creative development and production of all projects with the company’s Rick Jacobs and David Alpert serving as Executive Producers. Circle of Confusion formed a partnership with IDW Entertainment in October 2013 to assist in the development and Executive Produce the projects of the newly launched entertainment division of IDW Publishing.  Circle of Confusion is the Executive Producer of the hit AMC series The Walking Dead, for which eOne handles international distribution.

IDW Entertainment and eOne will jointly represent the U.S. network sales, and eOne will be responsible for the international distribution of programming.

In a release, Ozer said:

eOne has a proven track record of developing, producing and distributing premier television programming, and they are the perfect co-development, production and distribution partner for IDW Entertainment as we grow our television business. We look forward to collaborating with eOne and Circle of Confusion to bring our properties to life and anticipate announcing very shortly our first project under the deal.

In the same release Morayniss said:

The IDW team brings with them not only an expansive catalog of captivating titles, but the creative sensibility and instinct for developing their properties into successful franchises. Working with Circle of Confusion further cements this collaborative powerhouse and we look forward to the impressive slate of projects to come.

On top of a push into movies and television, IDW also announced IDW Games this year, a new division to take their popular titles and adapt them for games.

IDW Entertainment to Develop and Produce Michael Chiklis’s Pantheon

Michael Chiklis has joined forces with IDW Entertainment to develop and produce his comic series Pantheon as a new scripted live-action television series. IDW Entertainment will fund the development of the project and will be co-produced with Circle of Confusion.

While the story of Pantheon is under wraps, it involves Greek Gods returning to the present day.

Slated as direct to series, Pantheon will boast Chiklis, Ted Adams and David Ozer of IDW Entertainment, and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs of Circle of Confusion as Executive Producers. Co-created by award-winning actor Chiklis, it was originally released as a 5-issue comic book series by IDW Publishing.

Michael Chiklis is an actor, director and television producer. He is best known for his roles as LAPD Detective Vic Mackey on the FX police drama The Shield, and The Thing in the Fantastic Four film series. In the last year, he was an Executive Producer and starred in the CBS Crime drama Vegas, and also produced the independent feature, Pawn, an ensemble thriller with Forest Whittaker, Ray Liotta, and Common.
