Wynonna Earp Returns to Production. Season 4 Debuts Summer 2020

IDW Entertainment, SEVEN24 Films, Space, and SYFY announced today that Wynonna  Earp, the series based on the IDW comic created by Beau Smith, has been greenlit to start production for its fourth season. With production slated to begin later this year, Season 4 is expected to debut in Summer 2020 on SYFY in the US and Space in Canada. Additionally, IDW Entertainment announced that Cineflix Studios has come aboard to co-produce with Cineflix Rights handling international sales for all four seasons of the series.

Winner of the 2018 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show, Wynonna Earp follows the life of the great, great granddaughter (Melanie Scrofano, “Bad Blood”) of famous lawman Wyatt Earp. The action-packed supernatural sci-fi series stars Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, and Katherine Barrell. 

Known for having one of the most active social media communities – from arranging fan conventions around the world to raising money for LGBTQ charities – Wynonna Earp has been praised for its “fierce and committed performances”*, and has received and been nominated for numerous awards including Canadian Screen Awards, GLAAD Media Awards, Directors Guild of Canada, Writers Guild of Canada and Alberta Film & Television Awards.

IDW Entertainment President David Ozer Leaves Company for a New Venture

Kerry McCluggage, CEO of IDW Media Holdings, announced today that David Ozer, President of IDW Entertainment, will be leaving the company to become an independent producer.

IDW Entertainment was launched in 2013, and Ozer and his team have been responsible for building the division and successfully delivering three seasons of the critically-acclaimed Wynonna Earp and securing deals with Netflix to produce Locke and Key and V-Wars. IDW Entertainment also has a strong roster of projects in active development, with properties based on their deep and growing library of comic books and graphic novels, as well as properties created by their many friends in the writer/producer community.

Former Chairman of Paramount Television and President of Universal Television Named CEO of IDW Media Holdings

Veteran television executive Kerry McCluggage, who was joined to the IDW Media Holdings, Inc. Board of Directors in September 2017, has been named as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer. The former Paramount TV Chairman and Universal TV President will replace current CEO and founder Ted Adams, who is taking a brief sabbatical and will return to IDW in a new creative role.

McCluggage’s appointment signals the company’s focus on television where it has lately foudn success with Wynonna Earp which airs on SyFy and was recently renewed for a fourth season. The company has V-Wars in development at the same channel and Locke & Key is moving out of development hell and has landed at Netflix.

The company has had a rough few years. The publishing division declined close to a half million dollars in the fiscal second quarter ending April 30th, but operating losses improved $168,000 and now stand at $1.39 million from $1.56 million at the same time last year.

IDW Media Holdings had $8.7 million in sales for the quarter which is down 2% and a $2.2 million loss, around 23% worse than a year ago.

As both an industry executive and independent producer for over 40 years, McCluggage has also been an investor in media companies, including Allumination FilmWorks LLC. and Content Media Corporation. Since 2002, he has served as President of Craftsman Films, an independent production company developing motion picture and television product. Additionally, McCluggage is a founding shareholder of Old West Investment Management.

Prior to forming Craftsman Films, McCluggage was Chairman of the Paramount Television Group, a position he held for 10 years with responsibility for all aspects of the company’s television operations. During his time with Paramount, McCluggage shepherded many award winning and successful series, including the Emmy Award-winning Frasier and Cheers, and the phenomenally successful Star Trek franchise, as well as the venerable magazine series Entertainment Tonight and helped develop and launch the original plan for UPN (known as The United Paramount Network).

Before joining Paramount, McCluggage was with Universal, where he established the company as a significant supplier of series with such groundbreaking shows as Quantum Leap, Law & Order, Northern Exposure, Miami Vice, and Coach. he joined as a programing assistant in 1978 and would have oversight of all development and production for such series as Magnum, P.I., The Equalizer, Murder She Wrote, The A-Team, and ultimately rising to President of Universal Television.

IDW Entertainment to Develop Jonathan Kellerman’s Alex Delaware Book Series for TV

IDW Entertainment is developing Jonathan Kellerman’s best-selling Alex Delaware novels, marking the first time the brand is being adapted as a television series.

The #1 NY Times Best Selling author Jonathan Kellerman has been praised as the master of psychological suspense, and his compelling thriller series, Alex Delaware, has topped charts since 1985. Alex Delaware is America’s longest running contemporary crime series with over 80 million books in print globally. Every book in the series has achieved Top 10 on the New York Times best-seller list, most premiering in the Top 5. Currently, Jonathan’s latest book, Heartbreak Hotel, is rated #1 on the New York Times best-seller list.

The character of Alex Delaware is a forensic psychologist who works with the LAPD to assist in solving murder cases. His partner in crime, Milo Sturgis, is a gay homicide detective. Mainstream critics and the LGBT community have praised the series for creating realistic and developed characters.

The Delaware series is being developed for a straight-to-series run. IDW Entertainment controls the worldwide rights to this crime procedural. Jonathan Kellerman, David Salzman and Adam Salzman, and Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment, will serve as Executive Producers.

IDW Entertainment Developing The Devil with Ellen Pompeo’s Calamity Jane

the-devilIDW Entertainment has announced it has put The Devil into development as a big event limited series with Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo’s Calamity Jane co-producing. Dave Dilley has been tapped to write the pilot and serve as an Executive Producer.

The series is based on the novel The Devil: Britain’s Most Feared Underworld Taxman by Graham Johnson. Set in Liverpool in the 1980’s, The Devil showcases the life of Stephen French, one of the most feared men in the criminal underworld in the UK. He earned both his nickname and a reputation amongst rival crime-lords who he would outwit and rob during the emerging drug trade of the 1980s. The infamous criminal mastermind’s notorious life will be explored in this dark and gripping series.

In addition to Dilley, Calamity Jane’s Ellen Pompeo and Laura Holstein will serve as Executive Producers alongside IDW Publishing CEO and Publisher Ted Adams and IDW Entertainment President David Ozer. The Grey’s Anatomy star Pompeo, initially found and optioned the material.

The Devil will follow other IDW Entertainment properties whereby IDW Publishing will develop and publish graphic novels.

Syfy Renews Wynonna Earp for Season Two

SEVEN24 Films and IDW Entertainment, a subsidiary of IDW Media Holdings, announced that Syfy has renewed Wynonna Earp for a second season. The announcement came during the Wynonna Earp panel at San Diego Comic Con where the full cast appeared as guests. The freshman series scored big with both critics and fans, becoming a hit on social media, spawning hashtags, and trending weekly with each new episode. It recently nabbed the E! News TV Scoop Award for Best New Series of 2016.

Developed by Showrunner and Executive Producer Emily Andras, the series stars Melanie Scrofano, Shamier Anderson, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, and is based on the IDW Publishing comic book series created by Beau Smith.

SEVEN24’s Jordy Randall and Tom Cox, IDW’s Ted Adams and David Ozer, Banditos Yanquis’ Todd Berger, and Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs will all serve as Executive Producers.

Season two is set to air on Syfy in 2017.

Jim Carrey and Eli Roth Team to Bring Comic Aleister Arcane to Film

Jim CarreyAt this point, it feels like it’s easier to list comic books that aren’t being adapted into a movie or television series. The latest to be announced is Aleister Arcane, a horror comic from IDW Publishing.

Jim Carrey will star in and executive produce while Eli Roth will direct. Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment will develop the adaptation which was optioned from IDW Entertainment. Jon Croker will adapt for the screen.

Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will produce along with Michael Aguilar and be executive produced by IDW Publishing CEO and Publisher Ted Adams and IDW Entertainment President David Ozer.

Aleister Aracane, written by Steve Niles (whose 30 Days of Night was also a comic adapted into a film) and illustrated by Breehn Burns, was first published in 2004 by IDW Publishing. The story centers on a group of children who befriend a former local TV horror host who was shunned by their parents and forced off the air. After his death, only they have the power to thwart the curse he has laid upon their town.

locke_and_key_comic_book_cover_01IDW Entertainment announced today that the award-winning, fan-favorite property Locke & Key is being developed as a television series. Author/creator Joe Hill will be writing the pilot and serving as an executive producer.

The comic series was to be a television series even filming a pilot, but Fox passed because it was too scary. From there talk of a movie trilogy from Universal happened, only to be followed up by further talk of a television series.

Locke & Key has garnered both awards and acclaim during its five-year run. Following the titular Locke family as they encounter magic beyond belief and evils beyond redemption, Locke & Key quickly won over readers and has since become a staple in introducing new readers to the medium. With the series adapted in dozens of languages across the globe, and more than a million copies sold worldwide, Locke & Key is an obvious choice to make the transition to the screen. It had

New York Times bestselling author, Joe Hill, has continually captivated readers through his gripping novels and award-winning comic series. Bursting onto the scene with his debut collection of short stories 20th Century Ghosts, Hill has continued to thrill audiences with the novels, Heart-Shaped Box, N0S4A2, and Horns, adapted into a feature-length film in 2013, starring Daniel Radcliffe. His forthcoming novel The Fireman debuts later this month. In addition to Locke & Key, his comic series The Cape, Thumbprint, Wraith, and the upcoming series Tales From The Darkside, have all been published by IDW.

Ted Adams and David Ozer from IDW Entertainment, and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs from Circle of Confusion will serve as executive producers along with Joe.

IDW Entertainment is developing Locke & Key as a straight to series and will maintain worldwide rights to the project.

Wynonna Earp Gets International Distribution

Wynonna EarpDynamic Television, a leading co-production and television distribution company, has announced that Wynonna Earp, a new supernatural thriller series from IDW Entertainment and produced by SEVEN24 Films is available for pre-sale at MIPCOM. Wynonna Earp will premiere on the Syfy Channel in April 2016 from Executive Producer and Showrunner Emily Andras.

Based on the IDW Publishing graphic novel created by Beau Smith, Wynonna Earp is a fast-paced, 13-hour episodic supernatural thriller that follows Wyatt Earp’s descendent as she battles demons and other demonic beings. Wynonna is a witty and wild modern day gunslinger, using her unique abilities and a dysfunctional posse of allies to bring the paranormal to justice.

Principal photography begins this month in Calgary, Alberta.  The series stars Melanie Scrofano as Wynonna, and Tim Rozon, Shamier Anderson, and Dominique Provost-Chalkley.

IDW Media Holdings Announces Stock Split & Ticker Symbol Change

IDW Media HoldingsIDW Media Holdings, Inc. (formerly known as CTM Media Holdings, Inc.), announced today completion of a ten-for-one stock split. The split was effective on August 4, 2015. Each share of Class B Common Stock (including shares issued in the recent conversion of Class A Common Stock) and Class C Common Stock, now represents ten shares of the same class. The change has been effected in the records of the Company’s transfer agent.

As part of an integrated effort, including the change of the Company’s name, it is expected that the post-split Class B Common Stock will begin trading under the ticker symbol (OTC PINK: IDWM) starting on August 10, 2015.

IDW Entertainment announced that the SyFy Channel has acquired the U.S. rights to Wynonna Earp with an initial order of 13 one-hour episodes and USA Network has ordered a pilot for Brooklyn Animal Control. IDW Games announced its hit card game, Machi Koro has topped 100,000 copies and a deluxe edition is scheduled for the holiday season.
