Heroclix – Harry Leland and Hellfire Club Guards

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Harry Leland and Hellfire Club Guards.

Heroclix Harry Leland

Heroclix Hellfire Club Guards

From the Wizkids website:

Harry Leland’s mass-affecting powers are definitely in full force on this dial.  Let’s look at that Trait first; Mass Increase effectively shuts down Charge, Running Shot, and Hypersonic Speed on any opposing character within 4 squares! And if they try to move outside of the area of effect, they’re doing it at half speed.

Then there’s Leland’s Gravitational Focus special power which allows him to use Incapacitate within 4 squares as well.  If that weren’t bad enough, a successfully hit target has their speed value reduced and locked at 1 until your next turn!

Individually both abilities are useful, but combined they make manuevering nigh-impossible for your opponent’s figures.  And while Leland’s own speed value isn’t all that high, getting him into position to do the most damage won’t be that difficult as his lower point value ensures you have plenty of room on your force for some heavy hitters and characters capable of carrying Leland around.

But what if someone tries to take Leland out? Well, with so much potential battlefield control it’s inevetiable that someone will try to K.O. Leland.  His higher defense helps initially, but if you pair him up with the Hellfire Club Guard, his chances get much better!

and

The Hellfire Club Guards (or HCG’s) are definitely what you may have come to expect from a Minion-style figure; short dial with some offensive combat potential.  However, what makes the HCG really shine is their ability to confer Mastermind upon any friendly figure with the Hellfire Club keyword and a higher point value.

So say someone attacks your Leland or another Hellfire Club keyworded figure.  No worries with the HCG on hand;  just shunt the damage off to another Hellfire Club figure, or the HCG themselves.  The opening clicks of Toughness help the HCG’s absorb some damage before being removed hopefully, but if not, no matter.

Heroclix – Siryn

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Siryn.

Heroclix SirynFrom the Wizkids website:

At 94 points, Siryn packs a potent punch.  Consistent combat values all down her dial combined with her power selection means you will always have options when Siryn is on the battle map.  Early-dial Incapacitate and late-dial Pulse Wave (via her Sonic Scream special power) plus an opening 3 damage means that Siryn will always have a way to deal with opposing figures with Invulnerability or Impervious, while four clicks of Running Shot allows Siryn to get in position to do the most good for your force.

Late-dial Force Blast and Willpower give Siryn the opportunity to wreak some sonic-powered havoc as well.  In playtesting, we joked constantly that any elevated terrain Siryn took “was her’s” and no one wanted to even attempt becoming adjacent to her!  But no matter your strategy, Siryn will make an excellent addition to your X-based teams!

And speaking of teams, let’s not forget the X-Men team ability, which alows you to keep Siryn in the fight! All in all, Siryn is an effective ranged combat addition to your force!

Heroclix – Purifiers and William Stryker

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Purfiers and William Stryker.

Heroclix PurifierHeroclix William StrykerFrom the Wizkids website:

Clocking in at only 25 points, Purifiers are designed to travel in packs together shelling out concurrent explosive attacks against your opponents’ figures.  Their Armored Vestments (Toughness) keeps them on the board despite a shorter dial and their Minion power makes them even more dangerous!

and

First, there’s Stryker’s Trait; “Mutants are the Enemy” effectively shuts down both the Brotherhood and X-Men team abilities so long as Stryker is on the board! No “free move” actions or team ability-based healing for your opponent’s  mutants while this guy is around.

Stryker’s “Playing to the Crowd” special power also gives the Purifier cause a boost; the ability to increase his own attack when adjacent to his followers is useful, but increasing his damage value by the same amount if his target has the X-Men or Brotherhood Keyword or team ability is just nasty!

And let’s not overlook the front dial Leadership, which is particularly useful considering the low cost of the Purifiers and the fact that you can easily field several with Stryker.  Late-dial Outwit also aids Stryker and his Purifiers in their crusade against Mutantkind.

Heroclix – Beast

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Beast.

Heroclix BeastFrom the Wizkids website:

Beast’s Expeditious Assualt allows him to charge in where he’ll do the most good, while early-dial Outwit ensures his experience and scientific know-how are put to the best use; undermining your foes’ powers and abilities!Once Beast is engaged in the melee, his Preternatural Agility (Combat Reflexes) and his Trait help keep him safe from harm! Leaps and Bounds grants Beast a full dial of Super Senses and if your enemies somehow get around his defenses, Beast can Leap/Climb away to safety (and hopefully some healing via the X-Men team ability).

And talk about talented! Mid-dial Stealth and the Avengers team ability show how Hank is able to multi-task his time between his scientific studies, duties to the X-Men, and his new role as a member of Steve Roger’s Secret Avengers.

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the Giant Size X-Men Heroclix, Magneto.

Heroclix Giant Size X-Men MagnetoFrom the Wizkids preview:

His Magnetic Field Trait ensures that he’s always a hard target from ranged attacks, and if he’s placed in a square containing debris,  he receives an additional +1 to all of his combat values! Lastly, Magneto is also able to carry up to four of friendly figures with this trait, allowing for superior battlefield positioning!Magneto’s Magnetic Mastery special power enables him to either use Telekinesis twice, and if he uses Option 3 (attacking with an object), he increases the damage dealt by 2!

Magneto’s tricks don’t end there though! His Magnetic Shield special power grants him Toughness as well as causing opposing figures to halve their range values when they target him with a ranged attack!

Heroclix – Dr. Manhattan

Bookmark and Share

Heroclix Dr ManhattanFrom the Wizkids website:

Per the special rules accompanying Dr. Manhattan, the special terrain cannot be damaged or destroyed, but it does change according to Manhattan’s Empathy Dial (only used during scenario play).   Clockwork Terrain can become any terrain type depending on where the Empathy dial is set at any given point in the scenario.  If your arguements and attacks gain his attention, you can convince Dr. Manhattan to shed his aloofness and return to Earth with you in order to stave off armageddon!

The figure is released April 2011 and retails for $79.99.

Heroclix – Gleek and Grodd

Bookmark and Share

Wizkids has released a preview of it’s latest creation for the DC 75th Heroclix, Gleek and Grodd.

Heroclix GleekHeroclix GroddFrom the Wizkids website:

Fans familiar with Gleek may recall his penchant for being as much a hindrance as he was helpful, and this is represented by his Trait: What’s the Monkey Doing Here? I’m So Confused… If the Wonder Twins aren’t present to manage him, Gleek can be a bit of a nuisance, allowing your opponent to modify a single combat value on a figure of their choice by +1 or –1.  While Gleek does have Perplex for his entire dial and that is pretty useful, I think making sure Zan and Jayna are around to keep an eye on him may be the way to go!

and

At 116 points, Grodd packs a potent psychic punch for a very economical value! Front loaded TK eventually gives way to Super Strength and Outwit, and finally his Attack values take a boost as he unleashes his mental fury in the form of Psychic Blast as he picks up Willpower mid-dial!

And let’s not overlook his Trait: My Mind is Stronger.  Damage from Penetrating/Psychic Blast attacks is ignored by Grodd as well as attempts to use Telekinesis (Option 1) against him!  If that wasn’t enough, Grodd’s mental powers also prevent mind controlled figures from targeting him with an attack!
