Floating World hosts a release part by Glynnis Fakes’ 1177 B.C. on April 21

1177 B.C. release party

This April, Floating World Comics is hosting a book signing with Glynnis Fawkes, co-author and illustrator of the new graphic book 1177 B.C.: A Graphic History of the Year Civilization Collapsed.

This beautiful, full-color graphic version of Eric Cline’s bestselling 1177 B.C., adapted by award-winning author-illustrator Glynnis Fawkes tells the story of one of history’s greatest mysteries: what caused the ancient civilizations of the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean to collapse more than three thousand years ago, bringing the Late Bronze Age to an abrupt end? In this vivid and captivating full-color graphic adaptation of the landmark book, Fawkes invites us to follow two young friends living in the aftermath of the cataclysm as they unravel why it happened—and reveal important lessons for today’s interconnected and vulnerable world.

Pel, a member of the marauding Sea Peoples, and Shesha, an Egyptian scribe, visit the kingdoms of the Minoans, Mycenaeans, Hittites, Canaanites, Assyrians, and Egyptians to explore the calamities that brought them down. This graphic history depicts the people, events, art, architecture, and lands that Pel and Shesha encounter. We witness the Sea Peoples’ battles on land and sea, earthquakes on the Greek mainland, droughts and famine in Anatolia, invasions in north Syria, and possible rebellions in Canaan. Along the way, we also learn about the assassination of a Hittite prince traveling to marry an Egyptian queen, the sinking of a merchant ship laden with international goods, and the return of a pair of sandals to Crete by the Babylonian king Hammurabi.

An entertaining adventure story, this dazzling comic is also historically accurate and enlightening, inviting readers of all ages to think about the surprising factors and theories that explain why societies, whether ancient or modern, die or survive when struck by catastrophes.

Crowdfunding Corner: Realistic Future Nudes And Other Issues: Free Spirit News Anthology 2012-2021

Backer Beware: Crowdfunding projects are not guaranteed to be delivered and/or delivered when promised. We always recommend to do your research before backing.

Realistic Future Nudes And Other Issues: Free Spirit News Anthology 2012-2021

Free Spirit News is a free, submission based, art and satire newsprint publication made in Portland Oregon. The newspaper contains no “news,” but rather a collection of comics, drawings, jokes, puzzles, poetry, gags, optical illusions, visionary doodles and other untethered expressions. The news of the spirit!

For the past few years, Free Spirit News has been working to compile a hard bound book collection of the entire run of the paper thus far. The impending hefty tome “Realistic Future Nudes and Other Issues: A Free Spirit News Anthology 2012-2021” contains all fourteen issues, including photos, ephemera and other related nonsense. Published in collaboration with Floating World Comics and Container Corps Press, the book should make a wonderful coffee table book, door stop, and a supremely effective bathroom reader.

In addition to a small but very helpful RACC (RIP!) grant a few years back, this Crowdfundr Pre-order is the the main funding source for this book. In a perfect world this collection would be free just like the paper, but alas. The final book will retail in shops for $45-$50, but you can order yours today for the low low price of $40. Many deluxe options also exist, which include fun extras and goodies. If all goes according to plan the book should begin shipping out early in the new year and make a great post holiday gift.
