Aspen’s Shrugged #1 Covers Revealed

All-comp_SHV2-01-RetailersAspen has announced that the second release in their ambitious “10 for 10” initiative, Shrugged #1, has ordered in excess of over 32,000 copies and will feature a large array of retailer exclusive covers personalized for each individual store.

Aspen Owner and President Frank Mastromauro was enthusiastic about the response, stating as a writer and co-creator of the series he “couldn’t be happier with the great response.”

The series has been on the company’s schedule for several years, and is back as part of Aspen’s ‘10 for 10’initiative which sees ten new series debut over 10 months. This latest volume was born with an idea Michael Turner had for the sequel to the first volume of the series.

Aspen is pricing each debut #1 “10 for 10” issue for the affordable price of only $1 and is also offering other incentives for each release such as original hand-drawn sketch covers, CGC editions, and special retailer incentive covers by popular artists J. Scott Campbell and Eric “Ebas” Basaldua.

Fans and new Aspen readers who add each of the “10 for 10” titles to their comic shop’s local subscription service will be eligible to receive the special Aspen Reserved Edition variant covers. Those fans who collect all ten Aspen Reserved Edition #1 covers will receive a free full-size Aspen “Perfect 10’s” Jam Poster featuring all ten “10 for 10” covers on one image colored by superstar colorist Peter Steigerwald. The Shrugged #1 Aspen Reserved Edition cover features artwork by series artist Jonathan Marks and Steigerwald.

Aspen (and us) encourages everyone to check out the release of Shrugged #1 for only $1 on March 13th.

Aspen Goes to the Fans to Choose a New Series. Awaken Skies Vs. Overtaken

To celebrate the upcoming launch of their August release in their “10 for 10” initiative, Aspen Comics will be giving their fans and readers the opportunity to decide that month’s all new series. The choice will be offered between the following two properties:

Awaken Skies – Coping with high school is difficult enough, but when a young girl named Hilary makes the startling discovery that she has the ability of flight, her normal life suddenly takes on an all-new meaning. But, there are others who know of Hilary’s unique abilities, and they will stop at nothing to possess her in their pursuit of shifting the world’s power balance of mankind itself. High school doesn’t seem so difficult anymore.

Overtaken – Journalist Will Harden is well equipped for most situations, but nothing can prepare him for what’s about to come. Relocating from the big city to a small mountain town with his wife, everything is turned upside-down the moment she goes missing. Are the rumors of alien abductions true or did something far worse happen to his wife? No matter the cause, Harden will not stop until he uncovers the truth, or dies trying.

Both all new properties are created and will be written by Frank Mastromauro, co-creator of Shrugged and Dellec, and will feature the “10 for 10” incentives package including a $1 first issue price, an Aspen Reserved Edition cover, original hand drawn covers, Aspen Retailer Exclusive covers, and future covers by J. Scott Campbell, Eric “Ebas” Basaldua and more.

Aspen has made the online voting process simple for fans to select their favorite choice of Aspen’s two candidates: whichever book’s official Facebook fan page: facebook.com/AwakenSkies or facebook.com/OvertakenComic has the most “Likes” by 10:00 am PST Friday, March 1st will be chosen as Aspen’s next new series. Each page will be updated daily with first looks, artwork, news and more. Aspen encourages fans to select their choice and share their favorite with their friends.

Zenescope Announces Their 2013 Convention Schedule and Plans

Zenescope Entertainment has released its convention schedule for 2013 which covers a total of 25 different conventions and cities, including two visits abroad in both Canada and the United Kingdom. It’s the most comprehensive convention schedule for the company to date.  Zenescope’s writers, creators and artists such as Joe Brusha, Ralph Tedesco, Raven Gregory, Anthony Spay, Eric Basaldua, Pat Shand and many others are expected to be present throughout many of the company’s convention stops.

Over the past several years, Zenescope has maintained original and sought after convention exclusive covers. And this year the company has raised the bar as it puts the lovely Zenescope ladies to work with its “Work Force” theme for 2013. Eric Basaldua, Jamie Tyndall, Anthony Spay, Elias Chatzoudis, Franchesco and other top industry talent will take turns portraying Zenescope’s iconic and strong-willed female characters in a variety of blue and white collar work environments in the pinup style that has elevated Zenescope’s limited edition exclusives to be must-have collectibles.

Further, Zenescope has announced its new line of “Black Diamond” exclusive variants. These rare covers are intended to reward the hardcore collectors and fans who end up collecting all of them.

The first Black Diamond cover made its debut in January at Amazing Arizona Comic Con and future Black Diamonds will debut at various, random conventions throughout 2013. However, a specific release schedule and certain details about the covers are still being kept under wraps. Those who miss their opportunity to purchase these covers at the conventions can also look for them on Zenescope’s official web store.

Aspen Owner and President Frank Mastromauro thanked fans and stores for the success:

We are tremendously thankful to our fans and retail partners who helped make our first “10 for 10” release a huge success. Legend of the Shadow Clan is an exciting new property for us, and we’re honored to have such a great response to the launch. We worked extremely hard to make sure to contact each and every retailer who participated in the exclusive cover incentive, in order to ensure that their cover was unique and personalized to their own retail shop’s logo design. No two covers turned out alike, and I think they all look amazing.

Zenescope Entertainment Announces Robyn Hood Comic Book Series

Zenescope Entertainment has announced its newest Grimm Fairy Tales comic book spinoff entitled Robyn Hood.  The five issue mini-series is being released in September and can be pre-ordered in July’s Diamond Previews. Eric Basaldua, Greg Horn and Stjepan Sejic provide art for the cover of the first issue and is written by Pat Shand.  The character has a twist from the classic one we’re familiar with, this one’s female.

The story begins in the city of Bree within the Grimm Fairy Tales realm of Myst.  There, a tyrant rules with an iron fist and the city’s people are desperate for a savior. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Robyn is “the new kid” at an upper class high school and she quickly learns just how out of place she feels in this world.  But when Robyn is summoned to the realm of Myst, she will learn that an entirely new life awaits her and the fate of a mythical city rests solely in her hands if she chooses to accept it.

From the press release, “Robyn Hood is the story I’ve been waiting to tell. We’re taking this girl, who pretty much has everything good in her life taken from her, and we watch as she evolves into a hero.” states series writer Pat Shand. “Like Katniss Everdeen, Robyn is a strong female character that realizes what her destiny is but approaches it on her own terms.”

Zenescope Entertainment has seen significant success with new titles that have launched this year, which include Alice in Wonderland and The Jungle Book, both of which have a solid following (based on the hits to this site for them).  I expect no less from this series.

Zenescope Announces New “Alice In Wonderland” Series

Official Press Release

ZENESCOPE ANNOUNCES NEW “ALICE IN WONDERLAND” SERIES

Philadelphia, PA October 10th, 2011- Zenescope Entertainment has announced plans to release a brand new Wonderland prequel series under its Grimm Fairy Tales label entitled Alice in Wonderland.  Zenescope’s initial visit to Wonderland came in the form of a trilogy that first hit shelves back in 2007.  Return To Wonderland was the original release which quickly found a loyal and rabid fan base as it sold out of multiple re-printings.  Return was followed by two equally successful mini-series (Beyond Wonderland and Escape From Wonderland) as fans flocked to pick up the edgy publisher’s dark and twisted reinvention of Lewis Carroll’s famous writings.   Return To Wonderland followed Alice’s teenage daughter, Calie, as she journeys into a realm of madness called Wonderland and tries desperately to find a way out.  Zenescope’s new series will now tell Alice’s infamous story with the dark twists and horror-laced tone that Zenescope is best known for.

“After we finished the trilogy we agreed that we would only do another Wonderland series if there was a great story to tell.  What none of us wanted was to run this into the ground.”  Said Zenescope’s Editor-in-Chief Ralph Tedesco “After a while we threw around the idea for an Alice prequel and it didn’t take long to realize the potential.  We had created this entirely new mythology by reinventing Carroll’s original characters and also introducing entirely new characters into the mix.  There is so much material left to explore and many of our fans have been waiting patiently for more Wonderland.  So that’s what we’re going to give them.”

The new series will follow Alice Liddle, a young girl who decades ago was sent by her own family to a mysterious realm that feeds on the sanity of all those who enter.  Alice grows up as a prisoner of the terrifying yet mystical realm and must learn to adapt to her surroundings or perish.

Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Alice in Wonderland #1 hits shelves in December and will feature covers by Artgerm, Eric Basaldua and Nei Ruffino. It is currently available for order through Diamond Previews at 32 pages for $2.99 and in full color.  Go to Zenescope’s website at www.zenescope.com and Facebook page www.facebook.com/Zenescope for more information.

Zenescope Entertainment was founded by Joe Brusha and Ralph Tedesco in 2005 and has quickly grown into one of the top comic book and graphic novel publishing companies in the world.  Zenescope’s Grimm Fairy Tales and subsequent spinoff series such as Escape From Wonderland, Neverland and The Piper, which put a dark twist on classic fables, are some of the best-selling and longest running original independent comic books on shelves today.   Zenescope’s licensed titles include the on-going, critically acclaimed Charmed series, based off of the long-running popular television series, as well as Se7en and Final Destination, based off of New Line Cinema’s successful film franchises.
