Barbarian tops the worst weekend at the box office this year

Barbarian

It was another rough weekend at the box office but two new films topped it. Barbarian opened up to a strong word of mouth and reviews with an estimated gross of $10 million. Internationally, the film grossed $500,000 for a worldwide gross of $10.5 million.

Brahmastra Part One: Shiva came in second place with an estimated $4.4 million. Internationally, the film also grossed $19.5 million for a worldwide gross of $23.9 million.

Bullet Train slipped one spot to come in third with an estimated $3.3 million to bring its domestic gross to $92.5 million. Over the week, the film grossed $9.8 million internationally to bring that to $119.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $211.8 million.

Top Gun: Maverick continues to rock coming in fourth with an estimated $3.2 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $705.7 million. Over the week, the film grossed $7.4 million internationally to bring that to $747.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.453 billion. The film is now #5 in all-time domestic gross. It has passed Black Panther but has about $55 million to go before it’d pass Avatar. Worldwide, the film now ranks #11 having now passed Frozen II. The film is about $62 million before it’d move into the top ten. It’s possible but not likely to happen.

DC League of Super-Pets has held in there now coming in fifth. The film grossed an estimated $2.8 million to bring its total to $85.4 million after a slow start. Over the week, the film gross about $3.9 million to bring its international total to $82.6 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $168 million.

In comic film news…

The Spider-Man: No Way Home re-release dipped quite a bit, 75.9%, but still grossed an estimated $1.3 million to bring its domestic total to $8.6 million. The international total is listed at $169.1 million, a rather odd amount considering the previous weekend was $10.2 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder grossed an estimated $1 million as it was released on Disney+. The film has grossed $342.3 million domestically. Over the week, the film grossed $3.8 million to bring its international total to $414.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $756.5 million.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero looks like it held steady at $34.9 million domestically. Internationally, the film gained $1.9 million to bring it to $44.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $79 million.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looks like it has held steady domestically at $411.3 million. Internationally, the film looks like it gained about $600,000 to bring that total to at $544.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $955.8 million.

The week’s overall box office success…

Initial numbers has 65 films earning $42,285,481 from 42,933 theaters. That’s a drop from last weekend’s $55,636,944 from 44,869 theaters and 57 films. The weekend was the second worst of the year, the worst being the weekend of January 28. The average earning was $984.92 this past weekend, a decrease from last weekend’s $1,239.99.75.

Update: Top Gun: Maverick actually came in first with $6 million, Bullet Train was in second with $5.8 million, and Spider-Man: No Way Home was third with $5.4 million.

Spider-Man: No Way Home returned to theaters with a special extended edition and took first place for the weekend. The film earned $6 million over the weekend delivering a $7.6 million debut over the holiday weekend. It was overall a rough weekend and the second in a row where the top film didn’t even crack $10 million. Internationally, the film earned $2.6 million for a total of $10.2 million.

Top Gun: Maverick continues to impress grossed an additional $5.5 million to come in second place. It actually improved on last weekend’s previous gross. The film has now earned $700.3 million domestically. Over the week, the film grossed about $9.2 million to bring that to $740.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.441 billion. The film is now #6 in all-time domestic gross. It’s now about $100,000 behind Black Panther which it should earn in about a day. Worldwide, the film ranks #12. It’s less than $10 million behind Frozen II. That should be achieved this week as well.

DC League of Super-Pets got a big boost from the previous week improving 31.7%. The film grossed around $5.5 million to bring its domestic total to $82.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $6.3 million over the week to lift that to $78.7 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $161 million.

Bullet Train slipped to fourth grossing around $5.4 million. Domestically, the film has earned $87.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $14.1 million over the week to bring that to $109.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $196.8 million.

Rounding out the top five was The Invitation which grossed an estimated $4.7 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $14.8 million after two weeks. The film also added about $1.9 million over the week internationally to bring that to $3.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $18.3 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder grossed an estimated $2.4 million. The film has now grossed $340.5 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $300,000 over the week to bring that to $410.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $750.9 million.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero grossed $2.4 million to bring its domestic total to $34.9 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $4.3 million over the week to bring that to $42.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $77.1 million.

The weekend was the third worst of the year, the worst being the weekend of January 28. The average earning was $1,239.99 this past weekend, a slight increase from last weekend’s $1,236.33.

The Invitation tops a weak weekend box office

It was a bit of a yawner for the weekend box office as The Invitation topped it with an estimated $7 million. That’s the lowest amount a top film has grossed this year and the first to be under $10 million. Internationally, the film also grossed $1.6 million to deliver an opening weekend of $8.6 million.

In second place was Bullet Train which grossed an estimated $5.6 million to lift its domestic total to $78.2 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $14.4 million over the week to lift that to $95.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $173.6 million after 3 weeks.

Beast came in third place with an estimated $4.9 million. The film has grossed $20.1 million domestically. Over the week, the film grossed around $5.8 million to bring that to $16.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $36.2 million after two weeks.

Top Gun: Maverick continues to impress grossed an additional $4.8 million to bring its domestic total to $691.2 million. Over the week, the film grossed about $11.2 million to bring that to $731.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.422 billion. The film is now #6 in all-time domestic gross and has passed Avengers: Infinity War. It’s now about $9 million behind Black Panther which there’s a good chance it’ll be able to gross. Worldwide, the film ranks #12 having passed Avengers: Age of Ultron this week as well. It’s $27.6 million behind Frozen II.

Wrapping up the top five was Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero which was last weekend’s first place. The film grossed $4.6 million to bring its domestic total to $30.8 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $12.8 million over the week to bring that to $37.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $68.7 million.

DC League of Super-Pets grossed about $4.2 million over the weekend. Domestically the film has grossed $74.1 million so far. Over the week it earned about $9.5 million internationally to bring that total to $72.4 million. Worldwide the film has grossed $146.5 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder grossed an estimated $2.7 million. The film has now grossed $336.6 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $5.1 million over the week to bring that to $410.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $746.7 million.

The second worst of the year, the worst being the weekend of January 28. The average earning was $1,236.33 this past weekend, again, an increase from last weekend’s $1,906.18.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Beast go 1 and 2 at the weekend box office

It was a new top two at the weekend box office. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was the top weekend film with an estimated $20.1 million. The film also earned a little over $25.1 million internationally, for a worldwide debut of $45.2 million.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly opened in 2018 with a little under $10 million and went on to earn $30.7 million domestically, so everyone should be happy with this result.

Beast was in second place with an estimated $11.6 million. Internationally it earned $10.3 million for a worldwide total of $21.9 million.

Bullet Train slowed down a bit coming in third after the first two weeks in first. The film grossed a little over $8 million and domestically has earned a little under $69 million. Over the week, the film added about $21 million internationally which has boosted to $81 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little under $150 million.

Top Gun: Maverick continues to impress. The film added $5.8 million to its domestic total which now stands at $683.4 million. Over the week it earned about $25.8 million internationally to bring that to $720 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.403 billion. The film is now #6 in all-time domestic gross and has passed Avengers: Infinity War. It’s now about $17 million behind Black Panther which there’s a good chance it’ll be able to gross. Worldwide, the film ranks #12 having passed Avengers: Age of Ultron this week as well. It’s $47 million behind Frozen II.

Rounding out the top five was DC League of Super-Pets which has held in there and grossed $5.8 million. Domestically the film has grossed $67.5 million so far. Over the week it earned about $11.5 million internationally to bring that total to $62.9 million. Worldwide the film has grossed $130.4 million.

Bullet Train was in first place again at the weekend box office with a weekend that can only be described as weak. The film dropped 55.4% grossing an estimated $13.4 million. The film has grossed $54.5 million after two weeks. Internationally, the film grossed about $27.6 million over the week to bring that to $60 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed about $114.5 million.

DC League of Super-Pets came in second again earning $7.2 million in its third week. Domestically, the film has grossed $58.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed $12.9 million over the week to bring that to $51.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $109.7 million.

Top Gun: Maverick continues to impress moving into third place with an estimated $7.2 million an increase from the previous week. The film has now grossed $673.8 million. The film has also grossed $704.2 million at the international box office for a worldwide total of $1.378 billion. The film is now #7 in all-time domestic gross and just $5 million behind Avengers: Infinity War. It’s will pass that at some point this week. Worldwide, the film ranks #13 and needs about $24 million to pass Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Thor: Love and Thunder repeat at #4 with an estimated $5.3 million. The film has now grossed $325.4 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $12.3 million over the week to bring that to $395.1 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $720.5 million.

Nope came in fifth place with an estimated $5.3 million. The film has crossed the line and now grossed $107.5 million domestically. There is now international numbers, where the film has grossed $6.4 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $113.9 million.

DC League of Super-Pets dipped to second place with an estimated $11.2 million, a 51.3% drop. That lifts the domestic gross to $45.1 million after two weeks. Internationally, the film added about $19.9 million over the week to bring that to $38.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $83.4 million.

Nope came in third with an estimated $8.5 million. The film is just under $98 million after three weeks domestically. There is still no international gross.

Minions: The Rise of Gru rounded out the top five with an estimated $7.1 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $334.6 million after six weeks. Over the week, the film added a massive $180.5 million internationally to jump to $570.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $905.1 million.

DC League of Super-Pets Swoops to First Place

It was another new film in first place this weekend at the box office as DC League of Super-Pets took the prize. The film grossed an estimated $23 million to take the spot. It also earned $18.4 million at the international box office for a worldwide gross of $41.4 million. The result is of course a win, taking first place, but the overall numbers are a bit mixed as other animated kids films have opened much larger this year. And with star power, the film probably should have had more support. We’ll see how the film does long term as school begins across the country.

Nope was bumped to second place dropping 58.2% in its second week and earning $18.5 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $80.6 million. The film has had no international returns and it’s a headscratcher as Get Out earned $79.5 million overseas and Us earned $80.1 million.

Thor: Love and Thunder came in third place with and estimated $13.1 million to bring its domestic total to $301.5 million. Over the week, the film grossed $38.9 million internationally to bring that total to $360.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $662.4 million.

Minions: The Rise of Gru was in fourth place with an estimated $10.9 million. The film has grossed $320.4 million domestically. The film also grossed about $47.6 million at the international box office. There it has earned just under $390 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $710.4 million.

Top Gun: Maverick might be the surprise the year. Rounding out the top five, the film grossed $8.2 million to bring its gross to $650.1 million. Over the week it added $23.9 million to its international total to bring that to $671 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $1.321 billion. It’s not a surprise the film has been a success but that amount is completely beyond anyone’s expectations.

Initial numbers has 46 films earning $97,720,048 from 35,781 theaters. That’s a a dip of about a third from last weekend’s $126,220,718 from 33,226 theaters and 47 films. It’s a decent weekend but might be the first under $100 million in some time. We’ll need to wait for final numbers to see. The average earning was $2,731.06 this past weekend, again, a decrease from last weekend’s $3,798.85.

DC League of Super-Pets Gets an Official Trailer

The first official trailer for DC League of Super-Pets is here giving us a better idea of the film’s plot.

In DC League of Super-Pets, Krypto the Super-Dog and Superman are inseparable best friends, sharing the same superpowers and fighting crime in Metropolis side by side. When Superman and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped, Krypto must convince a rag-tag shelter pack—Ace the hound, PB the potbellied pig, Merton the turtle and Chip the squirrel—to master their own newfound powers and help him rescue the superheroes.

The film has an all-star cast including Dwayne Johnson as Krypto the Super-Dog, as well as Kevin Hart, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, Marc Maron, Thomas Middleditch, Ben Schwartz, and Keanu Reeves.
