Review: Bob’s Burgers Vol. 2 #1

BobsV2-01-Cov-A-ForteWhen I went to New York Comic Con this past October, the one show that almost everyone wanted to cosplay as was Bob’s Burgers. It was also one of the few shows that had a huge line for their panel on the first day. Also, my daughters happened to be fans of the show, so when I told them that Dynamite was rolling out a second volume of the comic series, they were ecstatic.

The series had a fine first run, so one would only hope the second volume, would maintain the consistency. Just like the first run, each issue is divided into several mini stories, which makes each issue stand on its own, and gives the reader, more freedom than most comics. It does not ask one to follow story arc with a promise of satisfying ending. Instead you get that within a few pages.

In the first story, Tina’s Erotic Friend Fiction Presents: Take A Chance on me(s), Brian Hall imagines his own version of Multiplicity to hilarious results. In Bob’s Fantasy Food Truck Concept Art: Double Black Dining, Mike Olsen imagines Bob’s wildest fantasy of a food truck. In Louise’s Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities: What Lies Beneath Bob’s Burgers, Louise and the rest of the kids, find a few surprises lurking under her parents’ restaurant. In Linda’s Attempt to Take Nice Family Picture In Front of the Restaurant ( And How It always Goes Wrong) #273, is as funny as it sounds. In the final story, Gene’s Nursery Rhymes That Could Be One Day Be Songs Presents: Full Moon, Gene fantasizes how his life a singer would turn out.

The writing and the art is consistently good, and create in the essence of the show. Overall, a definite buy.

Story: Brian Hall, Mike Olsen, Justin Hook, and Loren Bouchard, Art: Frank Forte, Hector Reynoso, Anthony Aguinaldo, Ryan Mattos, and Derek Schroeder.
Story: 10.0 Art: 9.0 Overall: 8.5 Recommendation: Buy

Bob’s Burgers is Now Ongoing

Dynamite Entertainment has announced the upcoming July release of Bob’s Burgers #1, the first issue in an ongoing series that presents all-new adventures and antics of the Belcher Family, the beloved cast of the popular FOX animated comedy series. Building upon the success of their five-issue 2014 miniseries, Dynamite and partner Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products welcome a creative team assembled from the actual television show producers and animators to deliver the engaging Belcher Family fun that millions of fans adore.

The second-ever series of the Bob’s Burgers comic book gives each member of the Belcher Family a chance to shine. Each monthly issue will include new installments of Tina’s Erotic Friend Fiction, Louise’s Unsolved Mysteries and Curious Curiosities, Gene’s Rhymey Rhymes That Could Someday Be Songs, Linda’s Attempts to Take a Nice Family Picture in Front of the Restaurant (And How It Always Goes Wrong), and Bob’s Fantasy Food Trucks (If Money Were No Object).

The announcement of the ongoing Bob’s Burgers series follows upon not only a bestselling 2014 miniseries, but the strong comic shop retailer support of Bob’s Burgers as part of the worldwide Free Comic Book Day 2015 event. Taking place on Saturday, May 2nd, Free Comic Book Day will welcome fans of all ages to pick up copies of Dynamite’s exclusive FCBD offering for the year, a special Bob’s Burgers one-shot comic that’s free for customers while supplies last. The inclusion of Bob’s Burgers in this highly publicized annual event promises to attract the porgram’s fans of all ages to comic shops — fans that will be eager for more Bob’s Burgers comics come July.

Bob’s Burgers follows the ups and downs of Bob Belcher, who runs the family restaurant with the help of his wife Linda and their three kids, Tina, Gene, and Louise. Bob has big ideas about burgers, but his family falls short on service and sophistication. The show debuted in 2011, and airs Sunday nights. Numerous critics have applauded the series’ offbeat sense of humor. The show was recently nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, and was also a Critics’ Choice Television nominee for Best Animated Series.
