It’s the year of Barbie and video game based movies it seems. Five Nights at Freddy’s, based on the popular video game property, debuted in first place with an estimated $78 million domestically. Internationally, the movie opened with $52.6 million for a worldwide debut of $130.6 million. What’s more impressive is the film also debuted on Paramount+ meaning folks didn’t need to go into the theater and could have watched it at home for most likely much cheaper. It might be a highlight that dual streaming/theater debuts can work.
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was finally knocked out of first place. The film came in second for the weekend with an estimated $14.7 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $149.3 million so far. Internationally, the film still lags (does Swift not have much of an international following?). Over the week, the concert film grossed $23 million to bring its total to $53.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed a little over $203 million.
Killers of the Flower Moon slipped to third in its second week with an estimated $9 million. The movie has now grossed $40.7 million. Over the week, the film grossed $23 million to bring that total to $44 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $84.7 million.
After Death debuted in fourth with $5.1 million. It’s the latest film from the same folks who released Sound of Freedom and it’ll be interesting to see if it has similar legs, and tactics as that movie, to game the box office.
The Exorcist: Believer hung on in fifth place with a reported $3.1 million to bring its domestic total to $59.4 million. Over the week, it added $7.6 million to its international total to bring that to a little over $61 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $120.4 million.
