Sumerian Records & Films Acquires Behemoth

Behemoth

Sumerian Records & Films has acquired the comic and gaming company Behemoth Entertainment. Behemoth has been an interesting publisher that sold over 500,000 books in its first year. 2021 market share estimates haven’t been released yet but the publisher claims its eighth among English-language publishers.

Behemoth has a mix of original comics as well as comics based on films and video games like A Girl Walks Home at Night and Watch Dogs: Legion.

Sumerian Records is an indie music label for rock, alternative, and metal while Sumerian Films has released both movies and an episodic series. It plans to produce three to five original features every year and increase television production.

Behemoth co-founder Nathan Yocum said:

After 15+ years of pushing the boundaries of what an independent record label can achieve, it’s a an incredible reward for us to be joining the Sumerian family today. While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished over the last few years, Ryan and myself couldn’t pass on the opportunity to align visions with Ash and enter this incredible next chapter of endless possibilities and growth as Sumerian Comics & Games. The power and weight that the Sumerian name carries is real and the future of Sumerian has never looked so positive.

Ash Avildsen, Sumerian founder/CEO added:

Nathan and Ryan have built Behemoth so quickly and independently with such a great original IP selection of characters, worlds and story. It was an easy decision to team up with these very talented young mavericks when the opportunity arose. They have good taste! Having a diligent, proven team in comics, graphic novels and gaming is paramount to Sumerian as we continue our passion for story-telling across all audio and visual spectrums. We will always be discovering, creating or developing IP into books, episodic series, feature films, animation and beyond.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

A KINGS VENGEANCE #2

Wednesdays (and Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

A King’s Vengeance #2 (Scout Comics) – A ruler defeated and left for dead in a weird fantasy world. We enjoyed the first issue with it’s intriguing mix of genre and we’re excited to check out more.

Armorclads #1 (Valiant) – Valiant is slowly building back it’s universe and we’re really intrigued to see how this fitst into the puzzle. If it does at all!

Beyond the Beyond #1 (Scout Comics) – When an argument between the siblings goes too far, Nova enacts her long awaited plan to escape the mining colony and explore the alien world from where her parents never returned.

Ghost Cage #1 (Image Comics) – When his megacorp power plant falls under attack by terrorists, the super-scientist who revolutionized and controls all energy on Earth sends his ultimate creation (and an adequate employee) in to destroy his most monstrous secrets.

Maniac of New York: The Bronx is Burning #4 (AfterShock) – We’re in love with the series and its take on the slasher genre.

Rogues #1 (DC Comics/DC Black Label) – The fact the Rogues are called “blue collar” in the description has us intrigued about this take.

Saga #57 (Image Comics) – Saga is back and it feels like it never left us.

Speed Republic #2 (Mad Cave Studios) – Racing against and Autocrat. Yeah, we’re in.

Task Force Z #6 (DC Comics) – The silly concept of a zombie Suicide Squad has been a lot of fun so far.

Until My Knuckles Bleed #2/Until My Knuckles Bleed #3 (Behemoth) – Two issues out this week? The story of a retired superhero turned bouncer at a strip club had us intrigued to find out more.

Review: Until My Knuckles Bleed #1

The 90s were the most extreme age for superheroes… but times change. Gabin Hart, AKA Damager, now works as a bouncer in a strip club managed by the Russian mob, hangs out sporadically with his ex Avengelady, and wrestles with the long term effects of his cyber-implants. But Fate always keeps one last cheap shot up its sleeve for a hero.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

Until My Knuckles Bleed #1

Wednesdays (and Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Baloney & Friends: Dream Big! (First Second) – The series is goofy fun that kids will love and parents can enjoy.

Batman: Knight #2 (DC Comics) – The first issue was interesting but not exciting. This though has us interested in seeing what’s next. Bruce has moved on from Gotham hanging out in Paris where he meets a burglar who shows him a thing or two.

Chronophage (Humanoids) – A single mother’s past is being rewritten and the mysterious man she met isn’t who he says he is.

Fictionauts #1 (Red 5 Comics) – A team must preserve the balance between reality and imagination which feels like that’s just open to a lot of potential fun.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Saturday Morning Adventures #1 (IDW Publishing) – We have fond memories of watching G.I. Joe growing up and we’ll admit nostalgia has us excited to check out this series that picks up on the original cartoon.

Iron Fist #1 (Marvel) – New Iron Fist? We’re listening…

Lion & Eagle #1 (AfterShock) – Garth Ennis and P.J. Holden doing a war comic. Nuff said.

Maniac of New York: The Bronx is Burning #3 (AfterShock) – The series has been an amazing take on the slasher film genre grounding it in what it’d be like if it happened in our reality.

Mother Russia Winter Special (Comics Experience) – We remember this series from WAY back when and we’re always excited to see something new that takes war comics and delivers a zombie mix. Add in this is a silent issue and we’re excited to check it out.

The Princess Who Saved Her Friends (BOOM! Studios) – This graphic novel for kids is fantastic. As backers of the Kickstarter, we’ve had it for a while and that means a lot of repeat reads.

Putin’s Russia: The Rise of a Dictator (Drawn & Quarterly) – This one should be interesting to read to see how even handed it is and considering current news.

Quad #1 (Behemoth) – A solar storm has destroyed all technology and four generations later a mechnaic takes a job that’s a bit odd. It’s never really simple.

Shadowman #6 (Valiant) – The series has been consistently solid and the “Deadside War” feels like it’s going to be a major storyline for the Valiant Universe.

Until My Knuckles Bleed #1 (Behemoth) – We’re fans of Victor Santos and a series about a retired hero now a bouncer is an intriguing debut.
