DC Releases a First Look at LaMonica Garrett as The Monitor

DC has revealed a first look at LaMonica Garrett who will play The Monitor in this year’s crossover between Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. The event is dubbed “Elseworlds.”

Marv Wolfman and George Pérez created The Monitor in the lead up to the classic Crisis on Infinite Earths and the character has appeared in multiple “Crisis” events since.

The characters is on of infinite power who has single-handedly kept the multiverse’s destruction at bay for millennia. We have no idea what role the character will play in the television event.

The story also debuts Ruby Rose as Batwoman, the first appearance of Gotham within the Arrowverse, the debut of Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane, and Superman returns played by Tyler Hoechlin. There’s also Jeremy Davies as Dr. John Deegan, and John Wesley Shipp will return as The Flash. We’ve also seen The Flash and Green Arrow swap in a way.

The event kicks off on Sunday, December 9 at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. CST) on The CW and continues December 10th and 11th at the same time.

Things Are Switched Up in this Elseworlds Poster

This year’s Arrow/The Flash/Supergirl crossover and dubbed “Elseworlds.” A new image released has Arrow and the Flash on display… but that’s not the usual individuals under the masks.

Yes, that’s Stephen Amell as the Flash and Grant Gustin as Green Arrow. But, what does this mean for Supergirl!?

Looks like this even should be a fun one. “Elseworlds” debuts December 9th.

Superman Dons a Very Different Suit for Elseworlds

This year’s crossover between Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl is dubbed “Elseworlds” and will introduce Ruby Rose’s Batwoman. But, it also sees the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman. But, it looks like he’ll be wearing a spin on the traditional suit with a more black and white color palette.

Arrow’s Stephen Amell tweeted out the below picture featuring himself, Hoechlin in the new suit, and Grant Gustin on set.

While some will say this reminds them of Superman’s black suit from the 90s, it also has a tinge of George Reeve’s classic Superman suit with the colors inverted.

A First Look at Ruby Rose as Batwoman

We’re getting a live action Batwoman who debuts during The CW and DCTV‘s Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, crossover event. Ruby Rose is donning the cape and cowl and The CW has released the first promotional picture giving us an idea as to what we can expect later this year.

This Year’s Arrowverse Event Casts Its Villain

Things are getting bigger and bigger with each Arrowverse crossover and this year’s villain is no exception.

Jeremy Davies has been cast as Dr. John Deegan in the three-night even. Deegan is a doctor at Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane in Gotham. He’s a doctor, but he might actually be crazier than the inmates.

DC has hinted there might be “more than meets the eye” to the character. What do you think the twist will be? The belief is the character will be Doctor Destiny who first appeared in Justice League of America #5 in June 1961. That character’s name was revealed to be John Dee.

This isn’t Davies first role in the DC world. He was Ritchie Simpson from both NBC’s Constantine and the Justice League Dark animated movie.

The crossover will include Green Arrow, the Flash, Supergirl, and feature the debut of Batwoman.

Underrated: Comic Book TV Shows That Don’t Suck (Anymore)

This is a column that focuses on something or some things from the comic book sphere of influence that may not get the credit and recognition it deserves. Whether that’s a list of comic book movies, ongoing comics, or a set of stories featuring a certain character. The columns may take the form of a bullet pointed list, or a slightly longer thinkpiece – there’s really no formula for this other than whether the things being covered are Underrated in some way. This week: Comic Book TV Shows That Don’t Suck (Anymore)

Do you remember when [insert comic book TV show here] debuted, and how excited you were to start watching it? Do you then remember the moment when your excitement waned and you realized that somewhere alone the line that [insert comic book TV show here] either never was all that good, or  had begun the descent into suckage?

Well, here’s a few shows where that descent was reversed, for better or for worse. The only caveat is that is all personal opinion, and some shows still suck. Obviously this is not going to be an fully comprehensive list, because I haven’t watch every comic book show available, but merely a selection of those I have.

And if your favourite show isn’t here? Maybe it never sucked enough…

Arrow_season_5_title_card.png

Arrow Now somewhere in its eighth season, Arrow started out with significant promise before slowly trending downwards. Hitting a low point around the third season, Arrow struggled throughout the following year and a half before finally pulling itself away from the poor man’s imitation of Batman we’d  been seeing as the show moved away from the League of Assassin’s and toward a direction you’d never expect to see Batman or Bruce Wayne take as Oliver Queen ran for Mayor of Star City. Now, although the show still has its problems, Arrow is on a decidedly upward trend and no longer deserves the poor reputation it so justly earned a few years ago.

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ironically, few people enjoyed this show right from the get go – my wife effectively gave up on this right around the tie in for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which was around when the series started to pic up in its quality. Since then, barring a few hiccups (most notably Season 4), the show has been remarkably solid with the fifth season standing out as the best one that has been produced in the last five years.

The-Gotham-TV-show-7.jpg

Gotham Unlike the other two shows mentioned in this week’s column, Gotham is a show I actually dropped half way through the first season. It turns out that for a long time that was the right decision. But recently those who have bravely stuck with the show for various reasons have been rumbling that, maybe, it’s something that should make its way back into my television viewing schedule. While I haven’t  made the plunge on it yet, primarily due to time constraints, I have every intention of reading the highlights online before starting with the most recent season. I’ll let you know how that ends up.

That’s pretty much it for this week, so join us next week when we look at something else that is, for whatever reason, Underrated.

Arrow: The Sixth Season Comes to Blu-Ray and DVD in August

The CW’s longest-running DC series will be coming to a city near you on August 14, 2018 as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment releases Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season on Blu-ray and DVD. The release contains all 23 exhilarating episodes from the sixth season, plus the show’s 2017 Comic-Con Panel, the crossover featurette and much more. Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season is priced at $44.98 SRP for the DVD and $49.99 SRP for the Blu-ray which includes a Digital Copy. Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season is also available to own on Digital via purchase from digital retailers.

Following the devastating explosion on Lian Yu, Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) returns home to confront a challenge unlike any he’s ever faced: fatherhood. Oliver is determined to embrace this new role while continuing to serve and protect Star City as both Mayor and The Green Arrow. But enemies past and present, including Black Siren (Katie Cassidy), Vigilante (Johann Urb), Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo), Cayden James (Michael Emerson) and others, threaten him on all fronts. And bonds within the ranks of Team Arrow—veteran John Diggle (David Ramsey); tech genius Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards); former police captain Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) and brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum), plus newest team members Rene Ramirez/Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) and metahuman Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy)—have become dangerously decayed. The future of Star City is at stake in all 23 of Season Six’s ferociously fast-paced, can’t-miss episodes.

Arrow: The Complete Sixth Season Blu-ray release will include 1080p Full HD Video with DTS-HD Master Audio for English 5.1. In addition to featuring all 23 episodes of season six in high-definition as well as a digital copy of the season, the 4-disc Blu-ray will also include all four crossover episodes, a tremendous value and collectors opportunity.

Arrow stars Stephen Amell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows), David Ramsey (Dexter), Willa Holland (The O.C.), Emily Bett Rickards (Brooklyn), Echo Kellum (Sean Saves The World), Rick Gonzalez (Reaper) and Juliana Harkavy (Dolphin Tale), with Katie Cassidy (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Paul Blackthorne (The River, The Dresden Files) . Based on the characters from DC, Arrow is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Supergirl, Riverdale, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Marc Guggenheim (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Wendy Mericle (Desperate Housewives) and Sarah Schechter (The Flash, Supergirl, Blindspot, Black Lightning).
