Paramount is seeking a $1.88 Billion Bond from Plaintiffs

Paramount is citing a federal law in asking 12 states and the Writers Guild of America to post a $1.88 billion bond in their antitrust lawsuits. The lawsuits have halted a $110.8 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount. A federal law protects mergers and acquisition parties from “potential harm” from halting the deal for litigation.

Paramount is trying to get the states and Writers Guild of America to pay for the timer portion of their proposed deal that would increase the cost by about $7 million per day if it doesn’t close before September 30. As of now, that doesn’t look like it’ll happen as Paramount has agreed to halt the deal until their lawsuit with a dozen attorneys general is over or June 1, 2027.

A trial is set for March 2, 2027 and believed to last 17 days. The delay through the trial, about 169 days, will cost the company $1.15 billion.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta who is leading the case for the states has said it’s a move by Paramount to get the plaintiffs to back down. Paramount CEO David Ellison has threatened to move Paramount out of California if the states don’t negotiate a settlement.

Paramount and Warner Bros. are two sophisticated companies who willfully decided to include a costly ticking fee [to shareholders] as a provision in their merger contract. They knew this merger would undergo regulatory review; they knew it was not a done deal; and they chose to include it anyway.

What’s more, Paramount itself stipulated to the timing it is now protesting — they agreed to the dates and did not request a bond as a condition of agreeing not to close until after the trial, and potentially as late as June 2027. Now, they’re trying to get a do-over.

Bottom line: Paramount went into this process with eyes wide open. They are lying in a bed of their own making, and once again, trying to blackmail us to get us to back down.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Holds on to First Place as it Crosses $2 billion

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s world and we’re just living in it. The movie is a juggernaut, taking first place again for the third week in a row. The movie added $48.3 million domestically to its total which is now $785,831,670. Internationally, it grossed $226 million over the week to bring that gross to $1.236 billion. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $2.022 billion, the second fastest to cross the $2 billion mark.

The movie is rank fourth in all-time domestic gross, behind Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Endgame, and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Worldwide, the movie ranks eighth and will likely move up to sixth after this week, possibly fifth or higher. It’s currently the top movie of the year domestically and worldwide by a large gap between it and second place. The bigger question is, will it be the first film to cross $1 billion domestically?

The Odyssey held on to second place with $23.2 million domestically. It has now grossed $504.7 million there. Internationally, the movie added $142.6 million over the week and has now grossed $786.2 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.291 billion so far.

While the top two films have held steady for a few weeks, this week had a lot of debuts. Third place through seventh all were new films coming to theaters.

In third was The End of Oak Street which debuted with $21 million domestically and $26 million internationally for a worldwide total of $47 million.

PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie debuted in fourth place with $20.5 million domestically and $48,500,000 internationally for a worldwide debut of $69 million. ACAB.

Katseye: Wild Hearts rounded out the top five with just under $4 million domestically and no international gross reported.

In comic related movies…

Supergirl grossed around $150,000 domestically over the week and is $72.3 million. Internationally, the movie remained at $54 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $126.3 million.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu remained at $177.7 million domestically. Internationally, the movie is at $167.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $345.1 million.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity has grossed $4.3 million domestically. Internationally, the movie has grossed $763,798 which makes a little over $5 million worldwide.

Numbers have 67 movies grossing $163,521,056 from 36,717 theaters for an average of $4,453.55. That is compared to last week’s 67 movies grossing $204,239,787 from 26,227 theaters for an average of $7,787.39.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the Second Fastest Film to Cross $2 Billion

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Sony and Marvel StudiosSpider-Man: Brand New Day is the movie juggernaut of 2026 (for now). The movie has crossed the $2 billion global mark, the second-fastest movie to do so and only eighth film to ever hit that gross.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day reached the amount in 17 days, Avengers: Endgame did it the quickest in 11 days.

It’s also the fourth highest grossing domestic film ever as of the end of its third weekend with $785.8 million. International gross is $1.236 billion for a total of $2.022 billion.

The film also has grossed the second-best third weekend domestically with an estimated $70 million. Star Wars: The Force Awakens holds the record for third weekend with $90.2 million.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is Sony Pictures’ highest-grossing release ever in 36 markets. At this point, it’s a question if the film will be the first ever to cross $1 billion domestically.

With the bar set so high, there’s pressure on for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday which opens on December 18. The chattering class will absolutely benchmark that film by how well Brand New Day has done and if it falls short, even if still doing very well, expect the press and grifting class to pounce.

Hollywood Teamsters Call out Paramount over the Warner Bros. Discovery Acquisition

While the DGA and IATSE unions kiss Paramount‘s ass and call for a settlement between Paramount and a dozen state attorneys general in their antitrust lawsuit, the Teamster Local 399 is taking another route. Paramount is currently attempting to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery for $110 billion.

Lindsay Dougherty has released a statement to Deadline that it’s time to cut the crap.

At every step of the way, Teamsters have asked for data to show how this merger would be good for our industry, our members and domestic production. Touting worker prosperity, without commitments, while simultaneously threatening their livelihood in the press as a bargaining chip begs the question — what is in this deal for American film and television workers?

The Teamsters had previously called on the Department of Justice to block the merger. Trump’s Department of Justice approved the deal. David and Larry Ellison have been accused of supporting and being friends with Trump which resulted in the acquisition to receive little scrutiny and is reported to have ignored government lawyers who were going to recommend a challenge to the deal.

The deal at $110 billion (currently, more on that later) and heavy debt by Ellison will force the company to make cuts quickly and will likely result in massive layoffs. After the purchase of Fox by Disney, the House of Mouse laid off thousands of workers. Paramount will have to do the same, if not worse, if this deal goes through.

Paramount CEO David Ellison has promised theater owners the combined mega-studio would release 30 films a year, and has assured CNN would have editorial independence. They’ve recently said everything is on the table in hopes to settle the lawsuit from the attorneys general. Paramount’s Chief Legal Officer Makan Delrahim has stated they’re willing to work towards a resolution and there have been rumors that includes selling CNN, though having an oversight board has also been floated. Ellison has threatened to pull the company from California if the antitrust lawsuit continues.

With a trial not set for March 2027, Paramount is scrambling to cut a deal beforehand. Each day beyond September 30, the price of the deal increases $7 million a day. With a promise to put the deal on hold until June 2027 or the conclusion of the trial, the $110 billion deal could increase by about $1.3 billion.

That increasing price is only one factor as to why the deal might be in jeopardy. David Ellison’s father Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle, has backed a large portion of the deal with about 49% of it being financed by foreign entities. Larry’s wealth is tied heavily into Oracle stock which has been volatile due to questions regarding its investment in data center infrastructure and whose fortune now relies heavily on AI succeeding. With the belief of an AI bubble growing, it’s very likely Ellison’s fortune could tumble quickly and soon. The longer the deal drags out, the more the risk increases for Ellison in the bubble popping and the deal collapsing resulting in a $7 billion payout to Warner Bros. Discovery for the deal ending.

Paramount’s CEO David Ellison Threatens to Exit California Unless the State AG Negotiates Regarding the Warner Bros. Deal

Veruca Salt with a David Ellison name tag

Paramount CEO David Ellison is taking another page out of the Veruca Salt playbook of stomping your feet until you get what you want. Ellison has told executives of Paramount that he will begin the process of exiting California on October 1 unless State Attorney General Rob Bonta negotiates a settlement regarding the antitrust suit regarding the takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Bonta is leading a group of 12 state Attorneys General that have formed like Voltron in an antitrust lawsuit against Paramount in its attempted $110 billion (potentially $111 billion) takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount had agreed to pause any business with the takeover until the trial ends or June 2027. The trial has been set to begin on March 2.

Paramount also faces a lawsuit from the Writers Guild of America as well as one filed by shareholders.

Bonta has released a statement regarding the threat:

In a span of weeks, Paramount agreed to halt the merger until a court decision or until June 2027, asked for a November trial, and is now back with another attempt to blackmail the state into letting an illegal deal through. Paramount has lost the plot as it continues to lose in court. It didn’t work the first time — on the eve of our July lawsuit — and it won’t work this time.

If Ellison follows through with his threat, the relocation would begin with the company’s headquarters and followed by studio jobs. The rumor or Ellison and Paramount leaving the state have swirled for some time.

Paramount faces an increased cost to its deal if it’s not closed by September and the trial alone adds about $1.3 billion to the $110 billion price tag. If the deal falls apart altogether, there’s a $7 billion termination fee. Warner Bros. Discovery can walk if the deal isn’t closed by June 4.

Paramount has been attempting to wage a PR campaign in its favor with Ellison rallying his allies to write op-eds supporting the merger. But, Paramount seems to be hurting its cause by trying to play public opinion as opposed to making concessions with the Attorneys General that may lessen their opposition.

With each volley, and the further strain on the Ellison fortune, the chances of this deal collapsing seems to increase with each day.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to dominate as it and The Odyssey cross $1 billion

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the movie of the year right now having taken the top spot at the weekend box office and being the second fastest movie to reach $1 billion ever. The movie dropped 59.7% and still grossed $145 million over the weekend to bring its domestic total to $655.1 million. Internationally, the movie added $438 million over the week and it has grossed $1.010 billion total. In two weeks, the movie has grossed $1.665 billion.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has the third highest second weekend box office of all time, it has the all-time record for the highest 10-day domestic gross, and it’s the second fastest movie to reach $1 billion.

No movie has ever broken a billion dollars domestically. Star Wars: The Force Awakens came the closest with $936.7 million in 2015. Will this be the first? It’s currently the 10th highest grossing domestically, and 12th worldwide of all time. It’s the top grossing film worldwide in 2026 by over $500 million, and the top grossing domestic film of 2026 by $180 million… and that’s just after two weeks!

In second place was The Odyssey which held on to the spot. It grossed $31.5 million domestically to bring that gross to $461.2 million. Internationally, it grossed $127.7 million to bring that gross to $643.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.105 billion, that makes two films to have crossed the billion dollar mark this week.

One Night Only debuted in third place with $5.7 million domestically. There was no international gross reported.

Super Troopers 3 debuted in fourth place with $4 million. There was no international gross reported.

Toy Story 5 slipped to fifth place with $3.9 million. Domestically, the movie has grossed $470.4 million. Internationally, it grossed $19.4 million to lift that total to $623.6 million. Worldwide, the movies has grossed $1.094 billion.

In comic related movies…

Supergirl grossed around $150,000 domestically over the week and is just under $72.1 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $200,000 over a week to bring that up to $54 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $126.1 million.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu remained at $177.7 million domestically. Internationally, the movie grossed about $300,000 over the week and is now at $167.4 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $345.2 million.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Calamity has grossed $4.3 million domestically. Internationally, the movie has grossed $763,798 which makes a little over $5 million worldwide.

Numbers have 67 movies grossing $204,239,787 from 26,227 theaters for an average of $7,787.39. That is compared to last week’s 54 movies grossing $437,078,260 from 25,010 theaters for an average of $17,476.14.

Disney and TikTok cut a Short-Form Content-Sharing Deal

Disney has been on a roll with cutting deals with terrible technology. In late 2025 the House of Mouse cut a $1 billion equity investment in OpenAI. That deal lasted about 6 months as OpenAI shut down Sora and with it Disney’s investment in May 2026.

Now, Disney has a new collaborator in TikTok, the tech platform that was formally owned by a Chinese company but Donald Trump couldn’t have that and forced its sale to his buddies, including Larry Ellison who is currently helping fund the purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery by his son David and Paramount.

The Disney/TikTok deal will pilot in the US in the coming months and “will bring an expansive collection of thoughtfully curated Disney-centric fan-created content from TikTok to the Disney+ app.”

Participating creators who opt-in will see the content they create live on TikTok and in Verts on Disney+. They can feature characters and stories across Disney’s brands including Pixar, Marvel, Star Ears, and more.

TikTok will provide creators access to assets related to hundreds of films and series from Disney’s library.

Mentioned in the announcement is the ability to “unlock special rewards” as well as increase the visibility of creators. It also will feature exclusive events and “career development pathways.”

The deal, which the press announcement calls a “first-of-its-kind global deal” sounds similar to Disney’s deal with OpenAI which would have provided access to Disney IP while bringing the AI creations to Disney+.
