Kickstarter Spotlight: Native Lands Vol. 1: The Gifted Ones

Native Lands Vol 1by James Cavanagh

I had been interested in the idea of what it’d be like to rebuild the world, or to have to build up a new one. What decisions would we make? What would we change? Who would be in charge? It was from that idea in which Native Lands developed. I added smaller ideas to the central plot, built it up and the story was there, along with a whole new world. I’ve worked on this story for several years and it’s a story I am proud of, and one I hope to share with you.

I had the story, the characters, the worlds and settings, all I needed was the art. I met Cecilia Latella almost two years ago through social media and she agreed to help bring my story to life. It was amazing how perfectly she captured the characters and the settings of the series, and soon after Michael Woods and Weston Design Studio joined our team. I have had the pleasure of working with these three incredibly talented individuals for almost two years, and I hope to do so for more years to come. We have currently released two issues of Native Lands [Issue #1 is available on Comixology, and Issue #2 will be available on October 28th or both available on Gumroad now], which is a great achievement. However now we would like to finish the final two issues of Volume 1, and that is where you come in.

As this is a self published and funded series there is only so much my money can do. By funding our Kickstarter you can support the art team and help us complete the first volume of this series. Now, onto what you’re funding.

Native Lands is a science fiction comic book set in the distant future after a disaster in the city of New London leaves thousands dead. The survivors, known as the ‘gifted’, are found to have gained unique abilities alongside their survival. Said to be highly dangerous and unstable, the gifted are closely monitored at a facility after the disaster. Tested upon, beaten and degraded by the staff in charge, their time at the facility ended after the Government started the G-Initiative. The scheme would see all gifted people removed from Earth in the following months, where they would be forced to rebuild their lives on a strange new world…

This series is about the journey of the passengers aboard the final spacecraft being sent to the alien planet, Terra Five, that is set to become their new home. The characters are the glue of this story, their development and growth through the ups and downs of life aboard the spacecraft and on the planet. There are several prominent characters that the story follows in this series including Bastian, Jackobie, Eve, Aaron and Charlie. The main character of the series is Emma Howard. A woman in her late thirties that is searching for her sister, Elaina, who has been missing since they returned to the facility at the start of the G-Initiative. Aboard the spacecraft Emma meets Charlie, an orphaned boy worried for what lies ahead and about the location of his Nanny, Isabel. On their journey, Emma and Charlie must stick together to face present dangers and the darkness in their pasts to be able to grow, move on and build up a world they can both find happiness within.

Having been fortunate enough to release two issues of the series thus far, we’ve received amazing feedback from our readers. To them, and to you, we want to say thank you. The support thus far has been incredible, and we hope you will all continue so support us further. If you can, pledging to our Kickstarter will be the first means of help. By doing so you can receive a number of rewards from physical and digital copies of Volume 1 [115+ pages] to t-shirts and posters or even original pieces of artwork! If you’re unable to pledge, sharing the page is another massive help and will make sure the word is spread about our project. We would love to share this story with you all and if you are interested please check out our Kickstarter page.

Thank you for your support.

Found to have gained unique abilities alongside their survival, a minority of people known as the “gifted” are forced to rebuild their lives on a strange new world. Said to be highly dangerous and unstable, the “gifted” are the only remaining survivors of a disaster that wiped out the city of New London.
