Top Cow Celebrates 20 Years of Seth Green’s Freshmen with a Definitive Kickstarter Edition

Freshman

Seth Green is returning to comics. Top Cow Productions has announced the Freshmen 20th Anniversary Kickstarter, celebrating two decades of the cult-favorite superhero comedy Green created with writer Hugh Sterbakov. Launching August 18, 2026, the campaign offers longtime fans and new readers the opportunity to experience the complete Freshmen saga in a definitive anniversary collection. The campaign will also debut an all-new 32-page Freshmen: 20th Anniversary Reunion Special, available as a standalone comic book and included in the hardcover edition.

Originally published in 2006, Freshmen follows a group of socially awkward college students who survive a strange laboratory accident and emerge with superpowers inspired by whatever they were thinking about at the moment of the explosion. Equal parts superhero adventure, college comedy, and coming-of-age story, Freshmen explores what happens when ordinary young people are handed extraordinary abilities without the experience, maturity, or confidence to handle them.

Twenty years after its original debut, Freshmen returns at a time when audiences have embraced more grounded and character-driven superhero stories. The series combined humor, friendship, insecurity, and genuine emotional stakes with unconventional powers and large-scale comic-book action, offering an irreverent alternative to traditional capes-and-tights storytelling.

Headlining the campaign is the all-new Freshmen: 20th Anniversary Reunion Special, an original 32-page comic written by series creators Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov with artwork by original series artist Leonard Kirk. Set during the classmates’ twentieth reunion, the story reunites the original cast as they reflect on adulthood, friendship, old romances, and one hilariously disastrous mission they never quite managed to forget.

Top Cow and Rocketship Entertainment will manage and fulfill the Kickstarter campaign, presenting the series in a premium anniversary edition featuring exclusive formats, collectible rewards, stretch goals, special add-ons, behind-the-scenes material, and additional surprises created specifically for backers.

The anniversary collection features the complete original Freshmen series by Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov, with artwork by Leonard Kirk and Will Conrad. The campaign also introduces the all-new Freshmen: 20th Anniversary Reunion Special, written by Green and Sterbakov, featuring artwork by Leonard Kirk, and brand new covers illustrated by Leonard Kirk and Rodolfo Migliari. The hardcover edition also includes behind-the-scenes material, a complete cover gallery, and additional anniversary bonus features.

Free Planet Vol. 2

(W) Aubrey Sitterson (A) Jed Dougherty

The critically acclaimed space opera returns, with more sci-fi military action, intense interpersonal drama and complex geopolitical maneuvering than ever before.

The first completely free planet in human history has successfully carved out a space between rival galactic superpowers: a corporate-dominated oligarchy and a bellicose, authoritarian empire. But as the revolutionary heroes of the Freedom Guard attempt to defend the planet from threats external, they must also contend with food riots, domestic terrorism, rebellious indigenous populations, separatist movements, skirmishes over resources and a neighboring planet’s desperate pleas for help, all as the team’s tenuous bonds threaten to splinter over a single, deceptively simple question: “What does true freedom actually entail?”

Designed to function as both literature and art object, AUBREY SITTERSON (The Comic Book Story of Professional Wrestling, No One Left to Fight) and JED DOUGHERTY (Savage Hearts, Worlds’ Finest) have harnessed extensive real-world research and design work to craft a rumination on freedom, the sacrifices it demands, the discipline it requires and the authority that must arise in its absence.

Joe Casey and Ashley Wood’s Automatic Kafka gets collected this November

The beloved, surrealist, post-superhero story—Automatic Kafka—by bestselling writer Joe Casey and critically-acclaimed artist Ashley Wood will be collected in its entirety into trade paperback for the first time ever and brought to shelves this November from Image Comics.

This subversive series was ahead of its time when it was first released in 2002 and was one of the first superhero comics targeting a mature audience, still remembered as one of the most conceptually complex, boundary-pushing comics of the era.

Automatic Kafka follows the titular washed-up android superhero: once a celebrated member of the now defunct super-team The $tranger$, now spiraling through a hyper-violent, media-soaked America. Seeking relevance, Kafka finds himself a pawn in shadowy government schemes, cult celebrity culture, and weaponized nostalgia. His desperate quest for humanity drags him straight into the wormhole of mankind’s darkest vices… and confronts him with a jaw-dropping existential truth.

Automatic Kafka is a gritty, post-modern take on superheroes, but presented as a surreal, razor-sharp takedown of fame, power, and the machinery that manufactures both. The Boys and Doom Patrol meets Mr. Robot in this must-read cult-classic.

More than that, Automatic Kafka is primed for rediscovery by a new generation of comics readers. Fans of unconventional, character-driven works such as Black Science, The Invisibles, and The Department of Truth will enjoy digging into this backlist gem.

Automatic Kafka (ISBN: 9781534332621) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, November 25 and independent bookstores, BookshopAmazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on Tuesday, December 22.

Scott Snyder and Jock’s Wytches gets Expanded and Remastered

The wildly successful Wytches, Vol. 1 by The New York Times bestselling writer Scott Snyder and critically-acclaimed artist Jock will be expanded and remastered in the upcoming Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition trade paperback slated to hit shelves this Fall from Image Comics ahead of the forthcoming Amazon/MGM Studios adaptation.

This new Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition will collect Wytches #1-6, Wytches: Bad Egg Halloween Special, material from issue #7 of the Image! anthology, and feature a significant portion recolored to match the upcoming animated TV series.

Wytches first launched in 2014 as a tentpole announcement at Image Expo and went on to become one the top selling comics of the year with multiple sell-outs and reprints and fervent fan support.

For centuries men and women have been persecuted and executed for witchcraft. Yet none of them were witches. They suffered to protect a terrible secret: witches, real witches, are out there. They are ancient, deadly creatures… Creatures rarely seen and even more rarely survived.

When the grieving Rooks family moves to the remote town of Litchfield seeking a fresh start… little do they know that something waits in the woods to greet them. Something ancient. Something evil. And it’s hungry.

Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition trade paperback (ISBN: 9781534342095) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, October 21 and independent bookstores, BookshopAmazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on Tuesday, November 17.

Wytches, Vol. 1: Pledged Edition

American Caper Vol. 1 introduces a cast and story dialed up to 11 and everyone is terrible

A Mormon hitman. A gambling-addict lawyer. Two neighbors intertwined in a real estate deal gone wrong. Mix in a Mexican beauty queen on the run from her past, a red-pilled housewife, two escaped convicts in love, a Wall Street billionaire who has become a cowboy, and a maniac hell-bent on revenge. The manicured wilderness of Verona, Wyoming is the perfect cocktail of American culture: real estate development, violence and snake oil.

From the tax-avoiders in the Rockies, to the thought police of liberal Brooklyn, to the confused political and environmental battlegrounds of Florida, one thing is certain: This tragedy is someone else’s fault.

Story: Dan Houser, Lazlow
Art: David Lapham, Chris Anderson
