The Immortal from Darryl Knickrehm and 215 Ink this August

Follow the adventures of Z – the last human in existence, as he bounty hunts his way across the universe in this critically-acclaimed space opera/sci-fi adventure. Darryl Knickrehm‘s The Immortal is a unique take on comic storytelling – 64-page issues in an 8-issue series, to be released bi-monthly starting in August.

The Immortal follows a human bounty hunter with the ability to be resurrected when killed in the line of duty. The only drawback? Each time he resurrects, another piece of his memory falls away. This monumental, character-driven mystery will center around Z and his hunt for those responsible for the annihilation of the human race. Written and illustrated by Knickrehm, The Immortal shows off an illustrative style that’s clean and full of depth paired with evocative gray scaling.

Kickstarter Spotlight: The Immortal

by Darryl Knickrehm

The last human in the universe is about to find out who he really is. The Immortal is an 8 part comic that is part hard-boiled mystery, part sci-fi manga, and all out-of-this-world adventure. Each issue is filled with action, mystery and a new planet to explore as Z, the last human in the galaxy, unravels the mystery of his past.

Written and drawn by Darryl Knickrehm, this is his first multi-part graphic novel, but only the latest in a long line of fictional work. Previously a filmmaker, Darryl wrote and directed 8 short films, produced the Kansai International Film Festival and was the co-editor/co-publisher of Waylines Magazine.

Each bi-monthly issue of The Immortal is being published by Waylines Media and is approximately 56 pages and in black and white. The first digital issue comes out in October, 2015, but right now the Kickstarter campaign to fund the first trade paperback (of the first 2 issues) has begun.

THE STORY SO FAR

Z is the last human in the universe and he doesn’t really care. That’s because Z has a problem – he can’t remember much before yesterday. The reason? Z’s occupation is killing him. Literally.

You see, Z is a bounty hunter; getting shot down is part of the job. Luckily his handy Regeneration Chamber allows him to come back and complete his work. After hunting, dying, resurrecting, hunting and dying one too many times, however, Z realizes that the hunter life is tearing him apart; his memory and his life are full of holes. So he takes on one final payday to get out of the biz. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned.

Waking up in the Regeneration Chamber, Z knows something has gone wrong. With no memory, however, he has no idea what. All he can do is follow his past life’s footprints, trying to avoid his prior mistakes. Unfortunately, what Z doesn’t know is that he is about to start a journey that will unravel a vast conspiracy about the death of the human race, lead him to explore far off worlds, face dangerous aliens, and eventually care about his own existence. Prepare to to enter the world of The Immortal.

Head on over to Kickstarter now and make Vol 1 possible! In addition to being able to get the trade paperback, you can get a discounted bundle of the entire series, a limited print of concept art, a Kickstarter exclusive Zero Issue, or even original art. You can also check out the first chapter for free. If you’re still undecided, however, here is a little taste of what you’re about to get:
