Inside Out 2

Inside Out 2 had another amazing weekend, delivering a shot in the arm for the box office. The movie dropped just 35.1% from its debut weekend, a solid drop for a blockbuster film. Inside Out 2 delivers a massive opening

Inside Out 2

It was a Pixar weekend, as the embattled animation studio showed they still have it. Inside Out 2 debuted with an estimated $154.2 million opening. That’s the best opening of 2204 so far. The film almost matched that internationally where it grossed $140 million delivering an opening of $295 million.

The first Inside Out debuted in 2015 with $90.4 million domestically and went on to gross $858.9 million worldwide. This film’s opening is a reason to celebrate for Disney and especially Pixar which both have had a string of disappointments over the past year.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die dropped 41.6% from its opening weekend to come in second place. It’s not a bad drop for an action film teasing it might have some legs. The movie grossed $33 million domestically to lift its total to $112.2 million. Internationally, the movie added $53.8 million over the week to bring that total to $102.4 million for a worldwide gross of $214.6 million after two weeks.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes improved and moved up to third place with $5.2 million. The movie has grossed $157.8 million domestically so far. Bad Boys: Ride or Die tops a dull weekend box office

Bad Boys: Ride or Die

It might feel like summer out there but you wouldn’t know from the weekend box office which was rather so-so. Bad Boys: Ride or Die was at the top with a gross of $56 million domestically. The film also grossed $48.6 million at the international box office for a worldwide debut of $104.6 million. While some seem to be claiming the film has saved the summer box office and had an amazing debut, it’s below 2020’s Bad Boys for Life with debuted with $62.5 million. That went on to gross $426.5 million worldwide with $206.3 million domestically and $220.2 million internationally. The first Bad Boys debuted in 1995 and opened with $15.5 million going on to gross $141.4 million worldwide and in 2003, Bad Boys II opened with $46.5 million domestically and went on to gross $273.3 million worldwide. It’s far to early to judge Bad Boys: Ride or Die but we’ll have a good idea if it has legs next weekend where it’ll only have Inside Out 2, a family film, to really go against and quite a few weeks before another potential adult film is released to really challenge it. Ongoing success of the film may be due to lack of competition than anything else.

The Garfield Film slipped to second place with a little over $10 million domestically where it has grossed $68.6 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $23.4 million over the week to lift that total to $124.1 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $192.7 million.

Mad Max: Fury Road opened with $45.4 million domestically in 2015. With such praise for that film, it’s a bit of a headscratcher why this one featured such a lower opening. There’s been mixed reviews as well as rough weather in many parts of the nation, combined it’d be enough to cause issues but that’s a hell of a drop.

The Garfield Movie opened in second place with $24.8 million domestically and $31.9 million since it opened. Internationally the movie has grossed $66.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has earned $98.2 million in its first week despite negative reviews.
