The Terminator Celebrates the Holidays with The Terminator: Santa Claus is Coming to Town

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and this year The Terminator franchise shows fans a terrifying vision of the most wonderful time of the year! Paulina Ganucheau leads the way in a new comic book from Dynamite Entertainment and STUDIOCANALThe Terminator: Santa Claus is Coming to Town releases this December!

Humanity is on the naughty list! In the war-torn apocalyptic future conquered by the forces of Skynet, Christmas Eve is far from festive. Yet even in the crumbling remains of civilization, with rubble and death around every corner, a scant few surviving elders of the Resistance carry the torch for the Christmas spirit. In between drone attacks, the younger members of the movement are eager to hear these heart-warming fables of Christmases past.

To these youngest in the vigilantly surviving human race, the stories of the jolly old man in his ruby-red robes who infiltrated the homes of everyone across the globe are especially intriguing. How did he avoid the sentries and guard dogs? What kind of exfiltration techniques was he using? Did he have glowing red eyes to match his fur-trimmed hat? How different was he from the hulking, mechanical monsters now advancing on their positions?

Writer Paulina Ganucheau and artist Kendall Goode are crafting the perfect Christmas present for fans of The Terminator. Across 28 story-stuffed pages, The team is rounded out with seasonal cover wrappings from Goode, Will Robson, Francesco Biagini, and Reese Hannigan.

The Terminator Comics Upgrade With “Metal” From Declan Shalvey, Rory McConville, and Lorenzo Re

Following a year of new mythos-shaping stories in The Terminator comics from writer Declan Shalvey and a legion of talented artists, the next phase and evolution for the franchise in the medium is here — The Terminator: Metal brings new models, resistance, and harrowing tales starting this October!

Acclaimed author of The TerminatorThunderCats, and other smash-hits, Declan Shalvey, is back in the cockpit to write this series, yet he’s brought in reinforcements to help in the fight against SkyNet. Fellow Irish scribe Rory McConville joins the team as ongoing co-writer for Metal. The writing duo shook up the industry a few years ago with the sci-fi dystopian tales of Time Before Time. Beyond that, McConville is celebrated by fans for his continuing contributions to the best-selling Spawn saga, with multiple years on the flagship indie juggernaut and then multiple spinoffs. The pair are joined by returning The Terminator artist Lorenzo Re, gearing up to kinetically portray this brand-new chapter in the War Against the Machines!

In the post-apocalyptic wastelands that follow the fateful Judgment Day, humanity scraps together any ways they can in their fight for survival. The existential battle for a future for humans leads to the use of every tool available — and that includes a Terminator itself! The character at the center of this tale is an engineer named Percy Dalton, who sets out on a mission accompanied by his perhaps not so trusty buddy “Tex.” After all, the wisdom of keeping your friends close, and your enemies closer may have never been more fitting.

When they find themselves trapped behind enemy lines in No Man’s Land and run into other surviving resistance fighters, this nullified metallic monster serves as a philosophical crux. Percy will struggle to complete their mission, work with others, and tackle what it means to be man and machine. At risk of Tex being rebooted to factory settings, or perhaps being the unexpected hero, this thrilling first issue is just the groundwork for what will be more pulse-pounding science fiction from Shalvey and McConville in the brutal landscape of The Terminator!

The Terminator: Metal features brutally beautiful covers by Shalvey himself, as well as Sebastian Piriz and Ivan Tao. An exciting industry legend contributes as well, as Bob Layton contributes covers. The master of metallics known for his revered tenures on Iron Man, and similar creations like Metallix, is crafting high-detail masterpieces for this series.

SDCC 2024: The Terminator returns with a new comic from Declan Shalvey and Luke Sparrow celebrating 40 years

Following news of the licensing partnership between Dynamite Entertainment and StudioCanal and an exciting six-figures campaign on BackerKit to bring reprints of classic material to fans, San Diego Comic-Con brings a new update of The Terminator franchise fully returning with new comic book stories this October — with heavy hitter creator Declan Shalvey at the helm, recruiting artist Luke Sparrow for each mission!

The war between the humans and the machines is coming home! Just in time for the franchise’s 40th anniversary, following the original film’s October 1984 release.

The plans to kill Sarah Connor and her son John have failed, but that isn’t going to stop the genocidal Skynet. If at first it doesn’t succeed, it’s going to expand the theater of operations. There are still a few more avenues into the past to try that will allow it to eliminate the human resistance before it even starts. Skynet and its Terminators are determined to stamp out these pivotal figures in history before they lead to their processors being smashed into silicon shrapnel.

This new front in the time war comes with Terminators dispatched all across the globe and throughout time to target not only current resistance fighters but also their ancestors, as well as any unlucky souls caught in the crossfire. Though at first it may not seem that this wide range of secondary objectives are as straightforward or critical as the original missions of the T-800 and T-1000, the sheer scope of this new warfare defies that. Time is literally on Skynet’s side — when all of history becomes a war zone, suddenly nowhere — and no-when is safe!

The comic is paired with algorithmically perfect covers from Shalvey himself, as well as Edwin Galmon, Joshua “Sway” Swaby, and David Cousens. The first issue of the upcoming series also features a stunning “Icon Cover” for collectors to grab, presenting the iconic artwork by Alex Ross early in his career for the “Burning Earth” storyline.

The Terminator comes to Dynamite!

Terminator 40th Anniversary

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a new licensing partnership to bring The Terminator to comics for the franchise’s 40th anniversary. This partnership with STUDIOCANAL S.A.S. is for new stories in the rich world of The Terminator universe, as well as to bring classic stories back into print for fans.

The Terminator released in 1984 across theaters to great acclaim and success. The big breakout project of legendary filmmaker James Cameron, it heralded a major shift in the burgeoning idea of modern “blockbuster” films. It was stuffed with A-list stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger, wall to wall with action, thought-provoking science fiction ideas, and a robust franchise of merchandising and licensing. Since then the franchise has spawned six core films, a television series, and countless other media tie-ins.

Central to the experience for Terminator fans away from the cinema has been the range of comic books. The 1990s were full of action-packed Terminator comics that expanded the mythos, showed fans moments of characters and whole new stories that they could never catch on the screen. Some of the most critical pieces of the lore can only be found in comic books, akin to many other beloved franchises of the era.

With 2024 serving as the big 40th anniversary of the original film’s release, Dynamite is planning a big celebration to bring many of these fan-favorite stories back in print in multiple ways, including premium options. More news will be announced soon!
