Hoax Hunters is an original series created by Michael Moreci and Steve Seeley, and features art by Christian Dibari, it used to be at Image, but now more appropriately is being published by Heavy Metal. Nothing is lost in the switch, and the series is as fun and entertaining as the first volume, picking up where it left off, but also being perfect for new readers to check out.

Multiple volumes for series is not a new thing, but since the series follows a team of reality ghost/monster hunting stars the fact it’s back for a new season feels so appropriate.

I liked the first volume, to me it was a solid mix of spoofing the reality shows out there, especially ghost related ones, while at the same time mixing in a good X-Files vibe and monster of the week mentality. The fact it balances the two is impressive, and not easy to do.

Back with its second season, the series has a team that’s not quite together and stumbling quite a bit. The fact things aren’t going well is more than enough to make the second season seem fresh and different from the first. Yes, there’s still the monster of the week aspect (it is their show’s schtick after all), but the squabbling and unease sets it all apart.

It’s only one issue, but that’s more than enough to get me excited to see what’s coming down the road this season. Hopefully the series keeps its solid balance between spoofing ghost/monster reality series and its monster hunting side, the first issue still has that down, though it isn’t quite as prominant.

New publisher, same fun series, check out Hoax Hunters, it’s going to be another fun ride.
