Sabrina The Teenage Witch is back and rebooted with writer Kelly Thompson at the helm. This is exciting for long time fans of the classic character Sabrina as the only recent resurgence of her character has been more or less horror adjacent (i.e. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). With art by both Veronica Fish and Andy Fish, Sabrina is brought back with a new look but maintaining her signature short, white hair from when she was first introduced in 1962.

This particular reset starts by following Sabrina on her first day at Greendale High. We see a cast a familiar character but are introduced to plenty of new faces. In classic Sabrina fashion, she uses her powers for good, and intends to help those around her without their knowledge.

The writing felt unsure of itself to start, but this could simply be the symptom of navigating how to open a new series, not necessarily a reflection of the writer and what’s to come. The issue also lacked a general humor about it that one comes to expect from a classic Archie character although there were attempts.

The issue is wrapped with a cliffhanger that will surely be interesting to learn more about in the upcoming issues. There is a sense of a potential love triangle looming among the pages as well. While this comeback didn’t feel necessarily compelling, I have hope future issues will be more commanding and charming.

Bad Luck Chuck #1 (Dark Horse Comics) – The concept of a person who rents out their bad luck for profit sounds too funny, and original, to not check out.

Dial H for Hero #1 (DC Comics/Wonder Comics) – The classic character returns with Sam Humphries and Joe Quinones in charge. It’s always been a fun concept, gaining power from dialing a phone, and hopefully this six-issue series stands out.

Glow #1 (IDW Publishing) – The Netflix show comes to comics and we’re so excited to get some more wrestling comics!

The Handmaids Tale (Doubleday Books) – The classic novel is adapted as a graphic novel.

Mera: Tidebreaker (DC Comics/DC Ink) – DC’s dive into young adult entertainment with this first graphic novel in their new DC Ink line. Focused on Mera, the graphic novel has her taking control of her destiny.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch #1 (Archie Comics) – The classic character gets the spotlight in a brand new series! With the Netflix series and her inclusion in the main Archie series, we’re intrigued by what this one is.

The Scar (Fantagraphics) – In the summer of 2017, cartoonist Andrea Ferraris and director Renato Chiocca traveled to southern Arizona to witness the tense situation along the US-Mexico border firsthand.

Super Sons: The Polarshield Project (DC Comics/DC Zoom) – DC Zoom focuses on middle grade readers and this graphic novel debuts the line. We always love the Super Sons and get excited in anything they’re in.

Synergy: Hasbro Creators Showcase (IDW Publishing) – Celebrating the female creators who have made Hasbro’s properties great. Anthologies rule!

Transformers #2 (IDW Publishing) – Transformers are back in a new series exploring the early years of Cybertron and we’re so excited about it all.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch Returns in a New Series from Kelly Thompson and Veronica Fish

Archie Comics is relaunching one of its most iconic and beloved characters in a spellbinding new comic book series by the fan-favorite team of writer Kelly Thompson and artist Veronica Fish. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, a five-issue mini-series arrives in comics shops in March.

Sabrina has enchanted millions of viewers on the Netflix original series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, starring Kiernan Shipka and based on the Archie Horror graphic novel of the same name. The new comic series will forego the dark elements that inspired the show and highlight the character’s more lighthearted origins.

In the first issue, on sale March 27, Thompsonintroduces us to Sabrina and her supporting cast: her witch aunts Hilda and Zelda, her feline familiar Salem, and more. Sabrina has to learn to navigate both of her worlds while saving them from supernatural threats. Fish, with husband and inker Andy Fish, renders it in an appealingly bright and colorful style that expertly blends fantasy with the down-to-earth setting of Riverdale’s neighboring town, Greendale. Archie Comics hopes to continue the series beyond the initial five issues if fan response reaches the heights they expect.

Archie Announces One-Shots The Archies, Little Archie, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Jughead: The Hunger in March

The town of Riverdale just got a little more crowded with some beloved and familiar faces.

Building off their success, Archie Comics is widening the scope of Riverdale stories by assembling some of the brightest stars in comics to tell four brand-new tales in a wave of oversized one-shots arriving in comic book stores and digitally this March.

The four one-shots build upon the foundation of the smash-hit Archie and Afterlife With Archie series by exploring classic Archie Comics concepts and characters in new and ambitious ways.

Each week in March will see a new one-shot arrive from some of the brightest stars in the comic book industry.

Kicking off the wave of one-shots will be the team of Art Baltazar and Franco, as they return to Riverdale for a must-have Little Archie adventure in the Little Archie One-Shot. After a strange cat eats Archie’s homework, are these pint-size pipsqueaks ready for the wildest day ever? Aw yeah!

Alex Segura and Matt Rosenberg, the writers behind the sold-out and smash-hit Archie Meets Ramones one-shot, team with Archie artist Joe Eisma to follow Archie’s dreams of becoming a songwriter in The Archies One-Shot, arriving March 15th and featuring a rockin’ cover by comics legend Jaime Hernandez.

Archie Comics Celebrates 50 Years of Sabrina the Teenage Witch

Sabrina the Teenage Witch, one of the most iconic characters in the Archie Comics library, turns 50 this month. To celebrate, Archie presents the 50 most fantastical Sabrina stories in a digital compilation entitled Sabrina The Teenage Witch: 50 Magical Stories. This news comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that The Hub television network picked up Sabrina’s latest animated series, Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch, set to debut in the summer of 2013.

Not only will this digital exclusive feature the greatest Sabrina stories ever told, collecting over 350 pages of content spanning Sabrina’s entire history, it also includes the never-before-printed origin story, written by Sabrina creator George Gladir.

New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA (September 22, 2011) — Archie Comics, the leading mass market comic book publisher in the world and home to leading all-ages properties Archie, Betty and Veronica, Jughead and Josie and the Pussycats announced plans to partner with Moonscoop, one of the leading worldwide animation production studios, to create a new animated series based on the adventures of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

Sabrina, one of the most popular properties in Archie’s wide collection of characters and universes, has been a strong presence in visual media since the 1970s, and was the focus of a long-running ABC and The WB sitcom, which was followed by an equally-successful animated series which ran on ABC.

The Archie/Moonscoop partnership will bring a new look to the long-running character, and bring her in line with a more modern and teen-centric sensibility. Sabrina will face the trials and tribulations all teens come across – along with monsters and the supernatural.

Moonscoop will bring the company’s award-winning production and creative teams together to reimagine the character and her supporting cast for a modern audience and an integral part of Moonscoop’s past catalogue of animated programming (currently over 3,000 half-hours and growing). Current Moonscop projects include Hero: 108, Tara Duncan, Fantastic Four, Casper, Code Lyoko, Titeuf and Wild Grinders among many others.
