S.H. Figuarts Batman (1989) Coming from Tamashii Nations

Tamashii Nations has unveiled a new S.H. Figuarts Batman (1989) figure. Set for release in September in Japan, it’ll arrive in the US sometime in October 2020. The retail price should be around $68 (currently listed at $71.99) though that isn’t set due to exchange rates.

Based on the iconic movie, the figure is an uncanny likeness. The cowl covers the neck, just like the film and it comes with “wonderful toys.” Accessories include a zipline gauntlet (with movable gimmick) grappling gun, batarang, two shuriken, and replacement hand and expression parts.

What is S.H. Figuarts?

A new standard in action figures representing the state of the art Tamashii Nation design technology. Designed to realistically mimic the full range of motion of the human body, the series name is a contraction of the concepts of “Simple Style” and “Heroic Action.” Standing roughly 14cm tall, the highly posable S.H.Figuarts figures are designed to feel like little treasures.

What is “GUNPLA”?

Gundam + Plastic Model = GUNPLA

GUNPLA is the common name for plastic models of Mobile Suits, Mobile Armor, and other robots that appear in the iconic Mobile Suit Gundam anime series.

Over 445 million GUNPLA models have been sold in the past 40 years since the first “1/144 Gundam” model was released in 1980. GUNPLA models are now manufactured in Japan with planning, product development and production taking place at the BANDAI Hobby Center, located in “Hobby City Shizuoka,” in order to maintain high quality and accurately meet market demand while also ensuring uniformity in design.

Preview : Toy Stories

When it rains, it pours. Never enough hours in the day. Here’s a few toy items making the rounds:

Hasbro-Legends-Infinite-6-inch-Agent-Venom-Copy

For some unholy reason, Hasbro has decided to make this amazing Agent Venom, that we’ve been waiting a year to see where it would release, is finally seeing the light of day…….exclusively at Walgreens. What’s a Walgreens? Is this some type of new toy store I don’t know about because I live in Canada? Last I heard Walgreens was a pharmacy! Why? Why Hasbro? Why? This forces me into the murky waters of the 2nd market to get a figure I really want and pay the inevitable mark-up. Why? Why Hasbro? Why? You can pre-order Agent Venom at the Hasbro booth at SDCC in July. Or randomly drop into a Walgreens when getting a prescription because KNOW ONE GOES TO WALGREENS LOOKING FOR TOYS!

kotobats

Kotobukiya will be releasing an exclusive ARTFX+ statue of First Apperance Batman for SDCC. Sculpted after the original Bob Kane design of the Bat-Man from Detective Comics #27.

sdccvegeta

And in a double dose of S.H. Figuarts news, because it seems impossible for me to do a story without mentioning their figures, a repaint and a monster are on the way for DBZ fans. At SDCC a repaint of Vegeta will be available. Sporting his original anime colours before arriving on Earth, Vegeta comes packed with all the same great accessories and interchangeable parts of the original release.

1broly3

And finally, this winter will see the release of the largest DBZ S.H. Figuarts toy to-date, the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly! Coming in at around 7.5″ tall and loaded with interchangeable parts, and 3 blast effect parts, Broly will be ready to dominate the Z fighters.

Preview: Toy News Round-Up

Wow, lots of stuff popped up lately. Had some things going on in life and I got a little behind. Hell of a week for that to happen. So here’s the round-up.

vaderhotwheel

Mattel showed off the first ever Star Wars themed Hot Wheels vehicle. This toy will be at SDCC in July. The roadster is designed to look like Darth Vader and comes packaged inside his own lightsaber. The package features red glowing lights, lightsaber sounds and Vader’s trademark heavy breathing.

gipsyBD

NECA reveals the next 18″ Jager from Pacific Rim…….Battle-Damaged Gipsy Danger. Gipsy comes ready for battle with the famous Plasma Cannon that lights up AND swivels. The LED lights in the chest and head from the original version make a return. This behemoth is ready to defend the world this September for about $100.

vadersh

Bandai has taken the wraps off a great new addition to the S.H. Figuarts series……….Star Wars! The first figures out of the gate in 2015 look to be a Stormtrooper and Dath Vader himself. It’s pretty apparent, from my other posts, just how much I love the S.H Figuarts line, and getting Star Wars figures now makes me extremely happy. I can’t wait for a side-by-side review with the Black Series Stormtrooper and Vader. Based on these early pictures, I’ve got a feeling who the winner will be, do you?

zero

In more S.H. Figuarts news, Bandai gives a first look at the Mega Man Zero star, Zero. Loaded with weapons from the series, Zero comes with; Z-Saber, the laser pistol Buster Shot, and the Triple Rod. Zero also gets a shield accessory and the traditional interchangeable expressions and hands. Zero hits in November for around $50.

magnus

At the Tokyo Toy Show, Takara displayed the first painted version of the latest Masterpiece Transformer, Ultra Magnus. The quality of the figure looks great, as does the scale. He does look a little bulky at the shoulders and legs. More looks are needed at this figure before judgment is passed. But wow, Ultra Magnus!

To close things off, an entry into the WTF?!?! category.

archer

Factory Entertainment announced this piece for SDCC: Archer – Sterling Archer Tuxedo Action Figure. No words, I have no words. This is a variant of the regular Archer figure that will be released and it looks like THIS?!?! Were they going for a retro style here or trying to mimic the look of the show? Either way, they appear to have missed the mark. I was worried about these when they debuted, but they were early, and I assumed they would improve, they have not. This is a big dissapointment to Archer fans who were looking forward to great figures from a great show. Thankfully, there’s only 1500 of these and if you want to toss away $25 they’ll be available at SDCC in July.
