Exclusive: A Wave Blue World launches Crisis on Our Only Earth for World Environmental Health Day

On September 26th, the world comes together to observe World Environmental Health Day. The environment is at even greater risk today as the most basic guardrails are being stripped away. Executive orders as well as elevated individuals are assaulting the little gains that have been made over the years and attacking communities negatively impacted by pollution and thus attacking their health and well-being. Editors Joe Corallo and Molly Jackson have partnered with A Wave Blue World to bring a new vision of our future in a benefit anthology for environmental causes, Crisis on Our Only Earth.

World Environmental Health Day takes place on September 26 and declared by the International Federation of Environmental Health. This year’s theme is “Clean Air, Healthy People.” The goal is to help promote awareness and action on the impact of clean air on public health, and addressing air pollution, climate change, and respiratory diseases. The first yearly event was held in 2011 to raise awareness about the connection between environmental quality and human health.

Crisis on Our Only Earth is a graphic novel anthology that features a mix of rising stars and seasoned pros in the comic book industry telling stories about important environmentalists, the origins of Earth Day, small steps we can take to make our world a better place, as well as genre stories incorporating themes of activism.

A Wave Blue World has pledged to make a donation to the Natural Resources Defense Council matching the net proceeds of the sales of the anthology. NRDC is an international organization promoting environmental advocacy through science, litigation, and green business practices.

Contributors include Danny Lore, Rio Burton, Bernardo Brice, Sabs Cooper, Ashlynn Barker, Adam McGovern, Chase Bluestone, Edwin Lopez, Lane Lloyd, Martha Thomases, Kate Zimmerman, David Pepose, Chris Shehan, Taylor Esposito, Trina Robbins, Fabian Lelay, Gab Contreras, Peter Carlsson, Mindy Newell, John K Snyder III, Bernardo Brice, Beth Rimmels, Michiums, Devin Grayson, Magda Price, Corinna Bechko, Gabriel Hardman, Barbara Randall Kesel, Diana Leto, Catrina Brighton, Regine Sawyer, Rodney Sanon, Molly Jackson, Christie Shinn, Annie Nocenti, Ameziane, Sina Grace, Rus Wooton, Alexander Lu, Sweeney Boo, Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Juan Ponce, Haley Boros, Keith Frady, Claudia Aguire, Catherine Ducket, Stuart Moore, Mark Wheatley, Carol Wheatley, Joe Corallo, Eric Palicki, Emily Pearson, and Matthew Kaplowitz.

Publishers Tyler and Wendy Chin-Tanner of A Wave Blue World know how important this mission is, and with their history of publishing critically-acclaimed anthologies, including Young Men in Love and Becoming Who We Are, make them the perfect home and advocates for Crisis on Our Only Earth.

The anthology will be released first digitally on September 26th as a pdf download which can be purchased on AWBW.com. Additionally, it can be purchased or read through subscription service on A Wave Blue World’s digital partners including Amazon Kindle, GlobalComix, and ComicsPlus on LibraryPass.

A limited print edition is expected sometime in 2026.  You can support NRDC and their mission directly by visiting their website at nrdc.org.

Crowdfunding Corner: Let Her Be Evil is a celebration of unapologetically wicked women with cruel intentions

Backer Beware: Crowdfunding projects are not guaranteed to be delivered and/or delivered when promised. We always recommend to do your research before backing.
Disclosure: Graphic Policy’s founder Brett is a member of the Zoop team.

Let Her Be Evil

If you’re looking for sympathetic anti-heroines or villainesses with tragic backstories, you won’t find them here. Let Her Be Evil is a celebration of unapologetically wicked women with cruel intentions—of the nasty, the vile, the rage-fueled monstresses who know exactly what they want and aren’t afraid to get it by any means necessary.

The crowdfunding campaign for this 128-page softcover anthology has launched on Zoop and funded in less than a day. The comic is spearheaded by comics newcomer, Cassandra Jones. Jones comes from the world of traditional publishing as an editor, and has assembled an impressive roster of creators for her debut comics work. Let Her Be Evil features seventeen original stories, including new work by Heather Antos, Brent Fisher, Rio Burton, Kamila Krol, Moe McGonagle, as well as dozens of other writers, artists, colorists, and letterers.

The goal of this anthology is to provide the same narrative space that villainess’ male counterparts enjoy in movies, books, and comics without being explained away by child loss or sexual assault, and to free them of the preconceived notion that they should be morally punished for their deeds while we allow male villains to be evil without comment.

Rewards include the book, art prints, stickers, and much more.

Corrected Version Of Azza the Barbed Issue #1 Will Be Shipping Along With Issue #2 Next Month!

September 21, 2022 saw the premiere of Scout Comics’ issue #1 of Azza the Barbed, a new fantasy epic written by Pat Shand with artwork by Rio Burton and lettering by Jim Campbell, or at some of the lettering. The issue was printed in error with the second half of the book missing all of Jim’s work. This was not a new avant-garde approach to storytelling contributed by the creative team, it was a mistake on the publishing side.

A new printing of Azza the Barbed #1 is already in production and will be released simultaneously with the second issue of the fantasy adventure series. Retailers are being asked to destroy the existing copies, but collectors may still be able to find some copies in stores.

The series tells the story of Azza who was born into a family that, for generations, served in the Obsidian Guard, a military unit of holy warriors. During Azza’s Coronation, a magical ceremony that would imbue her with a holy glowing power, something went wrong. Instead of the sacred Obsidian tattoos, she became disfigured with thorned, black markings and was banished by her people. Now, Azza lives in solitude guarding a great evil…but when that evil escapes and begins to spread its wicked power, Azza must make a choice: save the people that expelled her or allow her home town to fall to darkness. With an emotional, comedic, and awe-inspiring story of empowerment, Azza the Barbed blends fantasy, adventure, mythology, horror, and action in this unforgettable new series.

The adventure continues on October 19, 2022 with both issues #1 and #2 being released.  Reserve yours today at your local retailer and possibly add the error-printing to your collection before they are taken off the shelves.

A banished warrior returns to her hometown to save the people that rejected her in Azza the Barbed

Azza was born into a family that, for generations, served in the Obsidian Guard, a military unit of holy warriors. During Azza’s Coronation, a magical ceremony that would imbue her with a holy glowing power, something went wrong. Instead of the sacred Obsidian tattoos, she became marred with thorned, black markings. Thinking it was a bad omen, Azza’s people banished her.

Now, Azza lives in solitude guarding a great evil… but when that evil escapes and begins to spread its wicked power, Azza must make a choice: save the people that expelled her or allow her home town to fall to evil.

With an emotional, comedic, and awe-inspiring story of empowerment, Azza the Barbed blends fantasy, adventure, mythology, horror, and action in this unforgettable new series.

Azza the Barbed is co-created and written by Pat Shand, co-created and art by Rio Burton, lettered by Jim Campbell, and features a variant cover by Liana Kangas.
