Peter Cannon and Calvin Reid have retired from Publisher’s Weekly
2023 has started off with a lot of changes already in the comic industry and that’s extending to the journalism space. Peter Cannon and Calvin Reid, two pillars of Publishers Weekly’s editorial team are leaving the team. Cannon has spent 23 years with the company and is the senior reviews editor. Reid has spent 36 years with them and is the senior news editor.
Cannon joined the company as a part-time mystery reviews editor and went full-time in 2003. Reid joined in 1987 as an assistant news editor and was with the Library Journal for nearly five years. He worked as the assistant to news editor Madalynne Reuter and was promoted to associate editor in 1988. He helped grow the magazine’s comics coverage along with journalist Douglas Walk. In 2005 Reid was the senior news editor and named coeditor of PW Comics Week which became PW Comics World. He then went on to cohost More to Come, Publishers Weekly‘s weekly podcast. Reid will continue to edit and write for the publication as a freelancer.
Both have been titans in the industry and are respected journalists. It’s sad to see them go and we wish them luck in whatever they do next.
