Milestone Returns… to WonderCon@Home This Saturday

Since the digital launch of Milestone Returns #0: Infinite Edition last month, fans have been patiently waiting for more information on the Dakotaverse’s return to DC. The wait ends this weekend, with the “Milestone Returns” Panel at WonderCon@Home this Saturday, March 27th.

This highly anticipated panel includes renowned Milestone artist and co-founder Denys Cowan, award-winning producer and Milestone partner Reggie Hudlin, and Static: Season One artists CHRISCROSS and Nikolas Draper-Ivey. Moderating the discussion about what’s to come for Static, Icon and Rocket, Hardware, and more is none other than Phil LaMarr, the voice of Static Shock and Green Lantern John Stewart from the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series.

The panel will be broadcast from 1-2pm PDT and can be viewed at the Comic-Con International YouTube page. Beginning at 6pm PDT, the panel will also be viewable on the DC YouTube page.

Harley Quinn Gets an Official Trailer

DC Universe has released the official trailer for the original series Harley Quinn, from Warner Bros. Animation. Harley Quinn premieres Friday, November 29, only on DC Universe.

Harley Quinn has finally broken things off once and for all with the Joker and attempts to make it on her own as the criminal Queenpin of Gotham City in this half-hour adult animated action-comedy series. The series features Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and a whole cast of heroes and villains, old and new, from the DC Universe.

Harley Quinn is produced by Ehsugadee Productions and Yes, Norman Productions in association with Warner Bros. Animation.

Executive producers are Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Kaley Cuoco, Dean Lorey, Sam Register.

Watch All Six Episodes of BET’s Black Panther Animated Series

BET has released all six episodes of their animated Black Panther series.

Part of Marvel Knights Animation the series launched on the Australian children’s channel ABC3 in January 2010 and on BET in the United States in November 2011. Each of the six episodes was 20 minutes in length.

Developd by Reginald Hudlin and directed by Mark Brooks and Jon Schnepp, the series featured Djimon Hounsou as Black Panther/T’Challa, Stan Lee as General Wallace, Kerry Washington as Princess Shuri, Alfre Woodard as Dondi Reese, Queen Mother, Carl Lumbly as Uncle S’Yan, Jill Scott as Storm, and Stephen Stanton as Klaw.

Additional voices included Jonathan Adams as T’Chaka, JB Blanc as Black Knight, Male Cannibal, and Batroc the Leaper, David Busch as Everett K. Ross, Phil LaMarr as T’Shan, Peter Lurie as Juggernaut, Phil Morris as W’Kabim, Vanessa Marshall as Female Cannibal, Nolan North as Cyclops and Nightcrawler, Adrian Pasdar as Captain America, Kevin Michael Richardson as Wolverine and Historical Black Panther 1, and Rick D. Harvey Awards Dinner Tickets on Sale

Harvey Award Recipient LogoOn Saturday night, September 8th, the comic book industry, including professionals, retailers, and fans, will gather at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore to honor the 2012 Harvey Award Nominees for 2011 comic work and present the Harveys to their recipients.  This is an exciting evening, highlighted by our host Phil LaMarr, keynote speaker Ross Richie, and a special appearance by Stan Lee!

Harvey Awards tickets are on sale NOW!  Tickets to the event, which includes full cocktail hour (cash bar), full service dinner (featuring a Baltimore Crabcake!), awards ceremony, and a gift bag, are now available for $125.  Tickets are available at our website via credit card or Paypal at baltimorecomiccon.com/harvey-awards.

The keynote speaker for the evening is the Founder and CEO of Boom! Studios, Ross Richie.  Ross founded Boom! Studios in the spare bedroom of his apartment in June of 2005 — the company went on to win “Best New Publisher” four months later. Since then, Boom! has added “Best Publisher” from Diamond Comics Distributors to its list of accolades in 2009 and 2010, along with an Eisner Award and several Harveys. Ross is originally from San Antonio, TX.

“Saying this is a tremendous honor doesn’t begin to cover it. I am extremely humbled to contribute to such an incredible event. This is an amazing ceremony and I’m thrilled to have a part in it,” said Ross.

Phil LaMarrHost Phil LaMarr is best known as a cast member of Fox’s MADtv, a sketch comedy show based on characters and situations from MAD magazine, which was founded in 1952 by Editor Harvey Kurtzman (namesake of the Harvey Awards) and Publisher William Gaines. The show first aired in 1995 and ran for 14 seasons, of which LaMarr was a cast member for 5 seasons (1995-2000).

As a lifeling comics reader, LaMarr says: “I’m excited and honored to be a part of the Harvey Awards this year, and I am looking forward to meeting many of the people I spend every Wednesday afternoon with.”

The Harvey Awards are one of the comic book industry’s oldest and most respected awards. The Harveys recognize outstanding achievements in over 20 categories. They are the only industry awards both nominated and selected by the full body of comic book professionals.  Additionally, the Hero Initiative will present 2 awards to outstanding members of the comics community!
The Hero Initiative was established to aid comic creators with a financial safety net when in need of emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work.  In the years since its inception, the board has created an award to recognize those individuals in the industry that have dedicated their talent over the lifetime of their careers to the comic book community at-large, achieving the status of Hero. Previous recipients include John Romita, Joe Kubert, Nick Cardy, Neal Adams, and George Perez.  Who will be this year’s lifetime Hero?
The Dick Giordano Humanitarian of the Year Award will also be presented at the Harvey Awards Banquet. Giordano, who passed away in early 2010, was part of Hero Initiative’s Board of Directors. He was also a legendary artist, a guiding force at Charlton Comics and DC Comics for many years, a mentor to his colleagues, and a friend to all who knew him. His legacy epitomizes the caring and commitment Hero Initiative strives to achieve. In his honor, the Dick Giordano Humanitarian of the Year Award will recognize one person in comics each year who has demonstrated the generosity and integrity Dick brought to the charity, and to the comic book community at large.

Actor/Comedian Phil LaMarr to Host the 2012 Harvey Awards

The Baltimore Comic-Con has announced that actor and comedian Phil LaMarr will host this year’s Harvey Awards banquet and ceremony, taking place on the evening of Saturday, September 8, 2012. The Baltimore Comic-Con, which will be taking place September 8-9 at the Baltimore Convention Center, has been the home of the Harvey Awards since 2006.

John Stewart Green Lantern (LaMarr) Phil LaMarr is best known as a cast member of Fox’s MADtv, a sketch comedy show based on characters and situations from MAD magazine, which was found in 1952 by Editor Harvey Kurtzman (namesake of the Harvey Awards) and Publisher William Gaines. The show first aired in 1995 and ran for 14 seasons, of which LaMarr was a cast member for 5 seasons (1995-2000).

In addition to his comedic acting, LaMarr is also an accomplished voice actor for such renowned shows as Futurama, Kaijudo, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Static Shock, Evil con Carne, Samurai Jack and Justice League Unlimited, as well as recurring roles on King of the Hill, Family Guy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Young Justice and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron.

The change in host this year from Harvey Award mainstay Scott Kurtz was due to a family conflict. Kurtz, a friend of both the Baltimore Comic-Con and the Harvey Awards, will return in the future.  “Scott worked really hard to make the show this year, and we all understand and respect that family commitments must take priority,” said Marc Nathan, Baltimore Comic-Con promoter.  “Scott is always welcome here in Baltimore!”
