PAX Prime 2015 News: Mutant League Football Appearing

Mutant Football League, the spiritual successor to the original #1 selling Sega Genesis sports-hybrid game, will be showing off an early version within the Digital Dreams Entertainment LLC Booth #6813 at the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX Prime) at Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA from August 2831, 2015.  The series’ original creator and lead designer, Michael Mendheim, will be demonstrating the latest pre-alpha build of the title that is being created for PC/Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and mobile (iOS/Android); and will feature online multiplayer (up to 4 players).

The original Mutant League Football was released by Electronic Arts in 1993 for the Sega Genesis.  It’s blend of monsters, mayhem, and good ol’ American team sports turned the game into a cult classic and a #1 best seller. The touchdown success of the original game spawned a spin-off (Mutant League Hockey: Sega Genesis, 1994), as well as a toy line, an animated cartoon series, trading cards, and more!

Digital Dreams Entertainment LLC will also be previewing its new mobile app, Cinelinx, a movie based trivia game for people who love movies. Players can play against each other finding connections between notable films from the 70″s, 80’s, 90’s and today. It’s a new take on movie trivia games. Dominoes for movie buffs. The game is based on the original hit card game from creator, Gabriel Barboza who will also be on hand to demo the game. Cinelinx will be released on iOS and Android mobile phones and tablets Q4 2015.

Scott Pilgrim for Charity

A few weeks ago I was able to attend the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle.  Among the booths at the convention was one for Oni Press (one of the many non-video game booths at the show).  At the booth was was some great items for sale, especially for one of my favorite comics, Scott Pilgrim.

The poster pictured to the left was on sale to support Child’s Play Charity.  The organization has donated over a million dollars’ worth of games, toys, books and cash to children’s hospitals.

Penny Arcade Expo wasn’t your only chance to snag this awesome poster and support a great cause at the same time.  At his blog, O’Malley notes that the poster won’t be a PAX exclusive. At some point in the future fans will be able to buy it online. Those who wish to help the Child’s Play charity but, like O’Malley, couldn’t make it to PAX are encouraged to contribute directly. It’s a good cause.

Geekfest 09!

It’s less than one month until Geekfest 09!  That’s the annual trip with some friends from Buffalo to Toronto’s Fan Expo Canada.  Around 50,000 people attend the show making it absolutely packed and a massive wave of unwashed masses.

I missed last year due to work, but this year nothing is stopping me.  This year Fan Expo Canada runs from August 28th through the 30th and we’ll be there every day soaking in the fun.

A great convention mixing Comic Books, Video Games, Anime, Horror, and Science Fiction, this show has something for everyone.  It’s always a great time. And this year it kicks off Geek Week as the next weekend I’ll be traveling to Penny Arcade Expo 09 in Seattle (we’ll be covering that as well).

We’ll be counting down to the debauchery great time with a reflection on Geekfest pasts, ’06 and ’07.  But first a look ahead as to what’s coming this year.

Exclusives – Usually some decent exclusives this year sees:

Ultimate Avengers #1 Sketch Variant

Tales of the Fallen: Transformers #1 Megan Fox Variant

Green Lantern Blackest Night Lithograph <– this is the one I want

Star Trek: Nero #1 Spock Variant

Storm Hawks Limited Edition AshCan Fan Expo Variant

The Show is Pseudo Green

Every year the mounds of trash grows (it’s impressive really). But this year the Expo has introduced a reusable, recycled bag.  Good for them, hopefully other shows follow the lead.

Guests

Other then artists alley I rarely go for the guests.  The entertainment of watching people interact with the guests is pure entertainment though.  Check out the site for a complete list that’s constantly updated.

The Food and City

Toronto is one of my favorite places.  I’ve had a blast not just of past Fan Expos but also the numerous road trips there with friends.  It’s a city that has everything.  Even the street meat is good.  Dog, fries, coke, simple as that.

DNC and PAX – What a Trip

Back in DC from my week+ trip to Denver for the Democratic National Convention and then Seattle for the Penny Arcade Expo.

Denver has been covered in previous posts and there’s some other videos I need to post up to my YouTube account.  Those will be coming throughout the week,

PAX was a blast!  I finally got to meet my teammates at the ECA and checked out some awesome video games coming down the pipeline.

We’re Off to Denver and Seattle

The normal posts won’t be around for the next week as I’m heading to Denver for the Democratic National Convention and then to Seattle for the Penny Arcade Expo.  However, expect some special posts covering my time at both events.  We’ll be back September 1 with the normal posts.
