Red Dragon Soars for 2000 AD In September

Bore da! This September 2000 AD welcomes back a Welsh legend for an all-new story spinning from the pages of the classic series Zenith! Originally appearing in 1987 in Grant Morrison and Steve Yeowell‘s much-loved Zenith, Welsh superhero Red Dragon is returning in 2025 for a new series which looks back at the character’s origins, marking a major new series for The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic!

Original Zenith artist Yeowell returns with writer Rob Williams and artist Patrick Goddard for a new story set across two ages, exploring the beating heart of Welsh courage.

Red Dragon first debuted in the very first Zenith series in issue #535 in 1987: a Welsh superhero recruited by the bratty young superhero to take on the danger of Nazi super-soldier Masterman. Red Dragon, real name Siadwel Rhys, was a pyrokinetic hero who had found fame in the 1960s – but by the 1980s, Zenith found this once-mighty hero had become disillusioned and lost his heart for battle.

This new series heads back in time to explore the young and powerful Welsh pyrokinetic in his glory days during the swingin’ Sixties. Yeowell and Goddard will split artistic duties, with Yeowell joined by colorist Dylan Teague to explore the 1960s-set sequence, while Goddard remains in the present day, penciling events as a documentary crew head to post-Brexit Wales to look at the legacy left by their greatest hero.

To celebrate that legacy, Williams and Goddard will both be heading to Forbidden Planet in Cardiff on Saturday 27th September from 3pm-4pm for a very special Red Dragon signing. To make things even better, they’ll be joined by Rogue Trooper: Ghost Patrol artist – and fellow Welsh hero – Neil Edwards, making this a can’t-miss event for 2000 AD fans!

Red Dragon starts in 2000 AD Prog 2451, a special bumper issue releasing on September 24!

Garth Ennis writes this new, standalone Rogue Trooper adventure, drawn with effortless style by Patrick Goddard. Nu Earth is the site of a galactic war between the Norts and the Southers, and the Genetic Infantrymen like Rogue Trooper have been created solely for this war. However, after the betrayal of the Traitor General Rogue is the last of his kind, and together with biochip buddies Helm, Gunnar and Bagman, they’re searching for the traitor that sold them out. But now the black hole above Nu-Earth causes a time-rift, and Rogue must team up with British soldiers from World War One to fight both the Hun and the Norts, fix the time barrier, and get back to his original mission.

War is Declared! 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine Cross Over For “Nordland Rising”

Nordland Rising

This September, the Nort Army are setting out to conquer the 2000 AD Multiverse – and it’s going to take some unlikely allies to stop them!

The massive crossover event story Nordland Rising will see Rogue Trooper’s oldest enemies invade multiple different storylines from across 2000 AD’s history, as they take on Judge Dredd, Bad Company, Fiends of the Eastern Front, The VCs and more. Spread across 2000 AD Prog 2400 and Judge Dredd Megazine 472, this is an all-out action assault – and The Norts aren’t taking any prisoners!

Featuring stories from Ken Niemand, John McCrea, Peter Milligan, Ian Edginton, Nick Percival, Dan Abnett, Gordon Rennie, Simon Coleby, and more, Nordland Rising will see the return of familiar faces including Jaegir and Major Eazy as the War begins in 2000 AD and then crosses over for the epic climax in Judge Dredd Megazine. With both issues out on the 18th September, readers will be able to read the whole saga in one go – a veritable overdose of Thrill-power!

This is a great way to jump onboard 2000 AD for the first time and get a blast of action from some of The Galaxy’s Greatest writers and artists. Easily accessible for new readers – but packed with surprises for long-term fans – the crossover will then be followed by 2000 AD Prog 2401: a jump-on issue featuring the return of Garth Ennis and Patrick Goddard on Rogue Trooper; the follow up to Judge Dredd: A Better World from Rob Williams, Arthur Wyatt, and Jake Lynch, and the return of fan-favourite series The Out for an all-new run!

It’s never been a better time to become a regular reader of 2000 AD – or as we call it, a “Squaxx dek Thargo”! That is… assuming we escape The Norts in one piece…

Nordland Rising will begin in 2000 AD 2400 on the 18th September, and conclude the same day in Judge Dredd Megazine 472. Make sure to grab both halves of the story, Earthlets!

Battle Action #5 wraps up the latest volume with two solid tales and a little history

The latest iteration of Battle Action concludes with two explosive war stories. This issue kicks off with an early adventure of Hellman, when he led the Condor Legion in Spain and where the conflict he fought in forced him to determine what he would stand for, written by Garth Ennis, with art by Mike Dorey. In Nina Petrova and The Angels of Death, Petrova takes a new Commissar under her wing and the green officer sees first-hand what war truly entails, by Torunn Grønbekk and Patrick Goddard.
