Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

Wednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

Each week our contributors are choosing up to five books and why they’re choosing the books. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

Abbott #2 (BOOM! Studios) – If you read the first issue you know why we’re excited for the second. This series mixes horror and social consciousness all set in 1970s Detroit.

Avengers #682 (Marvel) – “No Surrender” has been a success so far living up to the build up and hype. It’s the rare recent event that hasn’t let us down. Another action packed entry with three new players entering the game.

Calexit #2 (Black Mask Studios) – There’s been a long delay since the first issue but we’re hyped to see if this second issue can get things moving after a slightly overhyped first. Great concept, now it’s time to see if it delivers on the promise.

Days of Hate #2 (Image Comics) – The first issue was absolutely amazing with intertwining stories set in the future that’s not all that different than ours. Taking on extremism on all sides, this series entertains and makes you think.

Long Lost #4 (Scout Comics) – Absolutely fantastic and a series that’s under the radar. A horror/psychological comic that’s a must get.

Mera: Queen of Atlantis #1 (DC Comics) – Mera gets the spotlight in this miniseries that focuses on her newish status quo and dealing with the fallout from Aquaman.

Motor Girl Omnibus (Abstract Studios) – If you missed the series by Terry Moore get the entirety here! You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll be entertained.

Rough Riders: Ride or Die #1 (AfterShock Comics) – Always entertaining, this series mixes fact and fiction and some historical figures kick some ass.

The Terrifics #1 (DC Comics) – The latest from DC’s “New Age of Heroes” puts together a rag-tag bunch to explore the Dark Multiverse. The first issue has a Fantastic Four vibe and it works!

The Wilds #1 (Black Mask Studios) – A disease has ravaged the world and society must pick up the pieces. We’ve seen the concept numerous times but this one focuses on the characters and delivers a lot of heart.

Action Comics #992 (DC Comics) – With “The Oz Effect” over, we’re intrigued to see where this series goes as that story attacked the very hope Superman is built on.

The Apocalypse Girl #1 (Amigo Comics) – Metis is 16, has all these problems and more. Because, on top of that, the End of the World happened and she has to cope with bloodthirsty demons and a 4,000-years old, critical, undead mom! This just sounds awesome.

Betty and Veronica: Vixens #1 (Archie Comics) – We’ve read it, it’s awesome. Check out our early review.

The Demon: Hell is Earth #1 (DC Comics) – Out! Out! Our favorite Demon is back in a new limited series. The first issue is intriguing and should be fun for long time fans of the character.

Detective Comics #969 (DC Comics) – Kicking off “Fall of the Batmen.” That title alone has us taking notice.

Doomsday Clock #1 (DC Comics) – We’ve already posted multiple reviews, but this is THE comic of the week. After lots of build up the world of Watchmen and DC collide.

Doppleganger #1 (Alterna Comics) – Dennis’ grip on reality fully unravels when an evil version of himself begins to torment him. Alterna has been doing an awesome job with their newsprint line of comics and this is a brand new one to check out. Just $1.50 people!

Eleanor & the Egret #5 (AfterShock) – Amazing art and beyond adorable story. If you’re not reading this series, you’re missing out.

Gregory Suicide (Dark Horse) – A graphic novel taking on clones and a story that spirals in paranoia. A solid read with some really cool art.

Imaginary Fiends #1 (DC Comics/Vertigo) – Imaginary friends that also want you to kill. The procedural meets… well, we’re not quite sure. First issue is a great set up in what will be an interesting twist on the police genre.

Long Lost #1 (Scout Comics) – Stranger Things meets Ghost World in Long Lost, the haunting story of two estranged sisters who find themselves drawn back to their small southern hometown to unlock the disturbing mysteries that are hidden there, with all roads leading back to their enigmatic, secretive mother

Motor Girl #10 (Abstract Studios) – The final issue of the series. We’re sad already.

Rugrats #2 (BOOM! Studios/KaBOOM!) – We loved the cartoon. We loved the first issue. We’re getting our Rugrats fix, how about you? A comic that’s great for kids and their parents looking for nostalgia.

Sherlock Frankenstein & the Legion of Evil #2 (Dark Horse) – The world of Black Hammer continues to expand in this series. Jeff Lemire people!!!

Silver Sable and the Wild Pack #36 (Marvel) – 90s nostalgia, nuff said.

Star Wars #39 (Marvel) – If you’re not reading Marvel’s Star Wars comics you’re missing out on great action and a fantastic extension of the world. If you’re a fan of the movies and not reading these, you’re really missing out.

Transformers: Optimus Prime #13 (IDW Publishing) – Post “First Strike” Optimus heads into the Cybertronian wilderness to search for the first new life in four million years. These types of stories tend to really stand out.

Void Trip #1 (Image Comics) – The story of Ana and Gabe, the last two humans left alive in the galaxy. They’re low on fuel, they’re low on food, and they’re low on psychedelic space froot, but they’re still determined to make it to the promised land: hippy-paradise, super-planet Euphoria.

WWE #11 (BOOM! Studios) – If you’re a fan of wrestling, these comics are a must.

X-O Manowar #9 (Valiant Entertainment) – One of the best series out there today.

Top Pick: Batman: White Knight # 1 (DC Comics) – I have been beyond excited for this book for quite a while now. While it must be hard to break new ground for characters that have been around for 75 + years, I have faith that Sean Gordon Murphy is going to do it. Having been able to have a chat with the man himself this past summer I got a good sense of what he wants to do with his Batman and Gotham. I must say it is an intriguing premise one that plays off of the concept of redemption and accountability. Plus returning Joker to his Jack Napier alter ego is something I have wanted to see for a long time. This should rock in so many ways!

Batman: The Dawnbreaker # 1 (DC Comics) – The one shots for this Metal crossover have all rocked so far, and I have no reason to believe that this one won’t live up to the example set thus far. The thought of putting the most powerful weapon in the universe on the finger of a very young and angry Bruce Wayne has me on the the edge of the multiverse on the possibilities. Will there be a chance for brighter days or will it indeed be Batman’s darkest night?

Top Pick: Batman: White Knight #1 (DC Comics) – I am excited for this book, and not just because I am a sucker for Batman, but also to see the entire story flipped on its head. It doesn’t hurt that Sean Murphy is drawing and writing this.

Old Man Logan #29 (Marvel) – I have been completely shocked by how good this book has stayed since Lemire ended it perfectly. It is a blast. He’s fighting an army of hulks. I mean, that’s both ridiculous and amazing.

Iron Fist #73 (Marvel) – Sabretooth comes home as this book comes under the new legacy numbering. I am excited to see if Brisson can keep the action going, and keep delivering me a fun Danny Rand, since Netflix hasn’t.

Paper Girls #16 (Image) – Saga isn’t the only incredible story Vaughn delivers from Image. Paper Girls is such a fun and wacky ride that is full of the 80s, sci-fi, and friendship. Oh and it also features badass girls who (used to) deliver papers.

Outcast Vol. 5 TP (Image) – One of Robert Kirkman’s other projects, that also has its own show. It’s about demons, exorcisms, and small town America. It’s crazy, and creepy, and I have enjoyed every bit of it so far.

Top Pick: Batman: White Knight #1 (DC Comics) – Imagine if the Joker used his brilliance to fight for Gotham rather than against it? I really can’t express just how cool of an idea this is (and the comic itself is also very good), and getting to see the Joker use his mind to come at Batman in a new way is utterly fascinating.

Shadowman/Rae Sremmurd #1 (Valiant) – Shadowman is a Valiant character that I don’t know enough about (shocking, right?) so any chance I can get to read about him I’ll take. Plus the art is awesome!

Top Pick: Motor Girl #9 (Abstract Studios) – This series will always be my pick of the week. Cute, touching, funny, entertaining, it’s the complete package when it comes to comics and the one comic I look forward to every single month.

Catalyst Prime: Astonisher #1 (Lion Forge Comics) – The latest series to debut as part of the Catalyst Prime is focused on a rich tech white dude with psionic-ish powers. An interesting first issue that’s another solid addition to this line of comics.

Eugenic #1 (BOOM! Studios) – This one should get people talking.

Spirits of Vengeance #1 (Marvel) – Marvel’s Legacy initiative is really kicking off this week and this series bringing together some of Marvel’s more horror elements should be an interesting one. Characters that have a mixed history of their own solo series are together for this new team book.

Slots #1 (Image Comics) – This series is one that was on my radar just due to the fact it’s a new one from Image Comics. After this week’s tragedy in Las Vegas, I’m reading it with a different perspective and it’ll be interesting to see how it resonates now.

Top Pick: Dark Nights: Metal #1 (DC Comics) – Snyder and Cappulo back on a Batman book that will have huge repercussions and changed for the DC universe. Hell yes!

Southern Bastards #17 (Image) – This book doesn’t come out often enough, and I’m only complaining because it’s so damn good.

Aquaman #27 (DC Comics) – This has been such a good arc with incredible art and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #8 (Marvel) – This has been such a pleasant surprise to me and a lot of fun. Duggan knows how to tie the ridiculousness with action so well on Deadpool, and he brings that to this series.

Astonishing X-Men #2 (Marvel) – A really solid first issue that hit the nostalgia home run much more than Gold did for me. The ending teased something huge but I’m sure that was just a trick by a certain character.

Top Pick: American Way: Those Above and Below #2 (Vertigo) – Jon Ridley alone is enough to get me looking forward to this series but the first issue knocked it out of the park having me excited to read the second.

Catalyst Prime Superb #2 (Lion Forge Comics) – The first issue was solid and delivers on Catalyst Prime’s promises. I want to see where this second one goes to see if it can continue the positive direction of the entire line.

Future Quest Presents #1 (DC Comics) – A new anthology-ish series that continues the adventures of some of my favorite childhood characters.

Motor Girl #8 (Abstract Studios) – Easily the best comic on the market. It mixes humor and feels in a way no other comic is doing. Just utter perfection and the one I look forward to each and every month.

Sh*t My Presidents Says: Illustrated Tweets of Donald Trump (IDW Publishing) – Shannon Wheeler’s cartoons that bring President Trump’s tweets to life are collected in this book. It’s both funny and… sad.

Top Pick: Deathstroke #21 (DC Comics) – This new team is super intriguing, and this run has already been great. The inclusion of Kid Flash intrigues me, as I’ve been reading Teen Titans too. DC has done a wonderful job of their universe and having things carry over to other books, and this is a great example of that.

Extremity #5 (Image Comics) – Johnson has crafted a fun and beautiful looking sci-fi/fantasy tale following our main character, who lost their drawing arm. The art is awesome, the action is great, and I recommend this book in single issue or the inevitable trade that will follow soon.

Batman #26 (DC Comics) – The “War of Jokes and Riddles” part two comes out this week, and I cannot wait. These versions of Joker and Riddler are fun, and I’ve enjoyed King’s run, even if it has been polarizing.

Superman #26 (DC Comics) – One of my favorite Rebirth comics. Tomasi and Gleason have weaved a fantastic series of arcs that have set up some fantastic things, including pulling in pieces of the new 52 run. I dig every issue.

Seven to Eternity #7 (Image Comics) – Remender’s crazy fantasy tale following the rag-tag group of misfits as they travel across a world that is enslaved by the God of Whispers. Highly recommended.

Top Pick: Motor Girl #7 (Abstract Studios) – Terry Moore’s series is one of the most entertaining out there and my favorite debut of the year so far. It’s a fantastic mix of sci-fi, humor, and tons of heart in a way that’s rare in today’s comic market. Add in the fact the main character Sam has a brain tumor, is kick-ass, served in the military, and her best friend is a talking ape, you also have one of the best characters of the year.

Catalyst Prime: Noble #3 (Lion Forge) – The Catalyst line of comics from Lion Forge has been one of the freshest universe debuts in a while. The characters and voices are diverse and its lead title Noble has sucked me into this new world leaving me wanting more.

The Unsound #2 (BOOM! Studios) – Cullen Bunn is a fantastic horror writer and the art from Jack Cole enhances the creepy atmosphere set up in this new series.

The Walking Dead #169 (Skybound/Image Comics) – All these issues in writer Robert Kirkman has shaken things up a lot and shaken some characters. I’m sucked in as to where it’s all going to go from here!

X-Men: Gold #7 (Marvel) – It’s taken quite some time but Marvel’s X-Men line is back and as reminding me of some of the classic runs I loved reading as a kid.

Top Pick: Bloodshot’s Day Off (Valiant) – Eliot Rahal is one of the most exciting writers in comics today. Bloodshot is an awesome character. A winning combination?

Batman #26 (DC Comics) – So.. Tom King has been on a winning streak lately. Here’s hoping he can continue on with that this week.

Review: Motor Girl #6

If there is one person on Earth that visiting aliens trust, it’s Samantha Locklear. Now Sam is fighting to save the desert junkyard that has become a UFO safehaven from an industrial tycoon determined to seize the land and install an anti-UFO weapon. Fortunately, Sam has a secret weapon of her own, her imaginary gorilla friend Mike!

A month off from Motor Girl, even for the release of the first trade, feels like too long for what is one of the best comic series on the market today. Terry Moore, who both writes and draws the series, continuously knocks it out of the park with a combination of humor and heart in a comic where you never know what to expect, but you know you’ll leave with a smile on your face even when you’re fighting back tears like this issue.

Picking up from the last issue it’s hard to talk about the first half of the comic without spoiling it. But, the humor is packed to the beginning setting up the reader for the latter half which feels like a punch to a gut by the end of it. The first half continues the alien abduction story and it’s really hilarious how it’s presented but as with what feels like everything with this comic, not all is at it seems. Again, don’t want to spoil things, that’s part of the fun of the series.

But, Moore delivers a punch to the fut as I said with the latter half that dives into Sam’s military service after an explosion triggers a memory and what I assume is PTSD. We are taken to her service in what’s clearly a Middle Eastern field of battle. It doesn’t matter specifically where only what happens. Again not to spoil anything, but Moore reveals Sam’s injuries she’s sustained and been danced around a little bit and also what’s likely the origin of Mike. It’s utterly heartbreaking, shocking, unexpected, and again Moore adds so much depth to his characters.

What starts with putting a smile on my face ended with my jaw dropped and a gasp. But, even with the air sucked out I still kept smiling due to the first half of the comic. Moore brilliantly mixes humor and emotion in a comic that has delivered with every issue and continually surprises. Easily my favorite comic out today and one of the best being released.

Top Pick: Secret Empire Uprising #1 (Marvel) – Black Widow will not allow Steve Rogers and Hydra to operate any longer, so she’s taking some of the younger heroes with her to take him down once and for all. I’m pretty sure they’re not going to have Widow put a bullet into Steve Rogers, but I am excited to see her and her team go into action and take out the Hydra threat.

Cable #1 (Marvel) – I’m a fan of the character and I really liked having him join the Unity Squad in Uncanny Avengers, so I am really interested in a solo series with Cyclops’ little boy. Just hoping it’s better then the Cable and X-Force series *cringe*

Generation X #2 (Marvel) – The first issue was underwhelming, but I am a fan boy so I’ll check out what the second has to offer. I’m hoping that it was just a shaky take off and things get more interesting.

Hulk #6 (Marvel) – This has been a fantastic series from the first issue, exploring Jen and her PTSD and her struggle to keep the Hulk within in check…but I have a feeling things are going to turn green soon.

Secret Empire #3 (Marvel) – I have not been impressed with this series at all….but it is on my list just to follow along and watch Steve and his Nazi Hydra be taken down and have this whole mess put behind us.

Top Pick: Motor Girl #6 (Abstract Studios) – Any week Motor Girl is out, it’s on the top of my pick list. The newest series from Terry Moore is quirky, funny, and touching, and the more I read, the more I fall in love with it. This is shaping up to be my favorite comic of the year.

Blood Bowl: More Guts, More Glory #1 (Titan Comics) – The tabletop miniature game comes to comics and as a fan of the game I can’t wait to read the comics and hoping this miniseries becomes an ongoing.

Heroines #1 (Space Goat Publishing) – Writer and artist Ted Naifeh doing a superhero series has me intrigued and excited.

Namwolf #2 (Albatross Funnybooks) – The first issue was weird and twisted and exactly what I expected so I’m beyond excited to read more of this series whose name spells it all out, it’s about a soldier in Vietnam who is also a werewolf.

New Humanz #1 (Titan1 Studios) – A new(ish) publisher always gets me interested and this one sounds like a new comic universe that’s worth checking out. The story is about a former CIA agent and his daughter who are sent through time to 2226 and she becomes a cyborg.

Top Pick: Superman #20 (DC Comics) – With the Superman Reborn arc finishing, I cannot wait to see where this book goes. The creative team has been amazing on this run, and it looks like we are going to get more information on Mr. Oz, and what we saw in the first Rebirth book. I love this comic!

Batman #20 (DC Comics) – Tom King has been building toward a crazy ending (hopefully), and this book has been off the wall with Bane being more crazed than ever. I trust King as a writer and expect all of this craziness and slow burn to pay off.

Extremity #2 (Image) – This is such a beautifully drawn comic, and Johnson writes the hell out of this book too. I have high hopes for this comic, and the first issue was amazing.

Paper Girls #13 (Image) – This book by Brian K. Vaughn has been so much fun, and it is an awesome 80s movie following the formula of Goonies or Stand By Me with all females. This is one of the best books out.

Black Science #29 (Image) – Remender doesn’t write too much I do not like, and this is one of his best.

Top Pick: X-Men Gold #1 (Marvel) – I am very excited for this book!  Just when I thought Marvel had written off my favourite characters, we get ‘ResurrXion’ and the X-Men are coming back in force.  I’m loving the line up of this book (not loving Rachel’s new ‘Prestige’ name and look) but these are some of my favourite X-Men and I know this is going to be an exciting book.

Royals #1 (Marvel) – So the Inhumans are heading to space, and I will be along for the ride.  I’m curious as to how Marvel Boy plays into this, but it should be a fun romp to see the Inhumans travel space and discover unknown secrets about their race.

Uncanny Avengers #22 (Marvel) – The Red Skull has been captured and now the Avengers are going to perform brain surgery to remove Charles Xavier’s brain and telepathic abilities from the Skull.  But what’s going to happen is anyone’s guess, and I’m sure this all isn’t going to go very smoothly.  It’s all been leading to this and I can’t wait to see how it ends.

Top Pick: Faith #10 (Valiant) – I’m a huge fan of this series, and I make no effort to hide that.

X-Men Gold #1 (Marvel) – A new X-Men team book… I’m hoping it’ll be fun.

Nightwing #18 (DC Comics) – Hands down the best biweekly Batman family book right now, and this issue sees the former Batman and Robin reunited in the third part of the current arc. I do so enjoy the interaction between Nightwing and Damian.

All-New Wolverine #19 (Marvel) – I’ve been waiting for a new story arc to start in this series so that I can jump on board, and it looks like that point is finally here.

Top Pick: America #2 (Marvel) – In an issue that spawned the line ” Try me, Becky” America cranks it up to eleven and I’m all the way here for it!

Top Pick: Harley Quinn #17 (DC Comics) – Harley Quinn and Harley Sin are about to go head to head in the start of the Deadly Sin story arc. Got popcorn?

Hawkeye #5 (Marvel) – Hawkeye is opening her own PI shop and who doesn’t love some good Marvel universe mysteries?

Jessica Jones #7 (Marvel) – She’s trying to have it all and we are all rooting for her, especially with the way the writers screwed the pooch last time.

Top Pick: Motor Girl #5 (Abstract Studios) – Writer and artist Terry Moore has been crushing it on this series that is just too weird to describe. UFOs, a talking gorilla, protecting a junkyard, it’s fun sci-fi that has a kick-ass female lead and is packed with heart and humor.

Colossi #1 (Vault Comics) – With every release so far Vault comics has delivered an entertaining read. Written by Ricard Mo with art by Alberto Muriel and Amaya Diaz, Colossi is solid sci-fi with a shuttle being sucked into a wormhole and the passengers lost in a parallel universe fighting to survive.

Eleanor & The Egret #1 (Aftershock Comics) – Writer John Layman and artist Sam Kieth alone are reason enough for me to be excited for this series that revolves around a daring art thief.

Kill Shakespeare: Past is Prologue – Juliet #1 (IDW Publishing) – The Kill Shakespeare world is back!!! It’s been too long and I’m beyond excited to return to this world that’s a nice twist on the classic characters. Even someone like me who doesn’t know a lot of Shakespeare can enjoy it.

Love & Rockets Magazine #2 (Fantagraphics Books) – It’s Love & Rockets, do I need to give more of a reason than that?

Review: Motor Girl #4

motor-girl-4Vic and Larry try to bully Samantha into selling the junkyard, but Sam proves to be a formidable opponent, especially with the help of a few resident extraterrestrials!

Motor Girl, let me tell you how much I love you.

Writer and artist Terry Moore continues to knock it out of the park with this latest series which brilliantly mixes sci-fi and humor for a combination that’s one of the most fun comics on the market, and it really should be a downer.

The comic is about a sleazy corporate-type guy trying to buy a junkyard from an old woman, while the keeper of the yard, Sam, is possibly seeing UFOs, has a drinking problem, and her best friend is a talking gorilla. Weird doesn’t come close to summing up the series, but it’s quirky fun that I find myself laughing with every issue and finishing each with a big grin on my face. This issue is no exception.

Last issue we saw Larry get abducted by a UFO and in this issue Same comes across Vic who’s waiting for his friend to return like a lost puppy. That parts funny enough, but then add in a scientist who’s tripping because he licked a toxin and it gets even funnier. This issue is full of comedy, both physical and situational. We also get to know Sam more too.

As the heroine of the comic, Sam is an interesting one. She’s tough and I mean that both physically and emotionally. She’s experienced some trauma with hints seen in this issue and we also get to see her kick some ass. When it comes to favorite female comic characters, she’s quickly rising to becoming one of my favorites. Terry Moore continues to knock it out of the park with his characters and here he keeps adding depth through small additions.

As much as I examine the comic, it’s flawless. The worst part is, I want to read more. It’s such a fun read it flys by and a month is too long to wait. Motor Girl is my new favorite series and one of the best on the market today.

Graphic Policy’s Top Comic Picks this Week!

batman-18Wednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

We’re bringing back something we haven’t done for a while, what the team thinks. Our contributors are choosing up to five books each week and why they’re choosing the books.

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

Top Pick: Logan (yes, my top pick is a movie) – Wolverine has always been my favourite Marvel character, and is the reason I read comics today. On the week that I turn another year older I get both Old Man Logan and Logan – it almost feels like Marvel are wishing me a happy birthday.

Old Man Logan #19 (Marvel) – Alex’s Week of Wolverine continues with Jeff Lemire – I don’t remember if his Brood storyline is over or not (I’ve read a lot of Wolverine comics over the past couple days), but this series has been strong for a long time and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Faith #9 (Valiant) – A one-shot story that seems to be more of a day-in-the-life than anything else, which I’m super happy about because I love reading about the other side of a superhero’s life.

Batman #18 (DC Comics) – I didn’t expect to be looking forward to reading a comic from this series again, but I’ve been cautiously optimistic about what Tom King has been doing here after the last couple of issues. While I think there’s more chance than not that this’ll disappoint, when it’s good King’s Batman is really good.

Top Pick: Royal City #1 (Image) – Jeff Lemire has been one of the best creators in comics the last few years. I love his work on Black Hammer, Old Man Logan, Moon Knight, AD: After Death, and much more. He is one of the few talents that can write and draw, and here with this book we are getting both. Royal City tells the tales of middle America and a real family. There’s also some interesting mystery to discover. I cannot wait!

Extremity #1 (Image) – From the minute I saw the art style on this book I wanted it. The premise is about a child that has their drawing hand chopped off by oppressive tyrants that have taken over their lands. While they learn to draw with their other hand, it isn’t the same. This is about rising up to fight oppression, and finding your identity when the thing you loved to do most is taken from you. It has a powerful metaphorical message, and I think this book will be something special as we get deeper into the story.

Superman #18 (DC Comics) – We are finally going to get some answers! Mr. Oz, fake Clark Kent, and more will seemingly be explained over the next few issues of Superman and Action Comics, two of DC’s best series. This along with the upcoming button issues for Batman and Flash have me excited to know more about our heroes lost time, and who this Superman and other fake Clark Kent are.

Batman #18 (DC Comics) – Tom King has been building a powder keg of a story with Bane, Catwoman, and Batman. I am hoping this is where it all explodes, and by the last few pages of Batman #17, it will. Bane knows where to hurt Batman the most, the people he cares for. I like the twists King has given us so far, and am wondering where he goes from here.

Moon Knight #12 (Marvel) – Sadly, one of the best things Marvel has going for it is coming to an end in a few issues. I still have no idea what is happening, but have faith Lemire will give us a great ending to a great book. Is he losing his mind? Or has all of this been real? Perhaps a combination of the two. Great series, and it appears it will go out on a high note.

I couldn’t pick a top pick this week. It’s all so damn good! From socially conscious comics to girl-powered comics, to straight up anarchy and good old fashioned action, it’s a great week to be all about that comic life!

Harley Quinn#15 (DC Comics) – Harley breaks her peace with the Mayor to save the homeless, fight gentrification and, more.

The Dregs #2 (Black Mask Studios) – Dig deeper into this socially conscious detective drama as we are taken on a journey to find out the fate of the homeless population.

X-Files Deviation 2017 (IDW Publishing) – Mashing up X-Files & Orphan Black and a lady Mulder! Shut up and take my money!!!

America #1 (Marvel) – It’s heeeeeree and, I’m here for it!

Bullseye #2 (Marvel) – Bullseye is on a mission to rescue a mobsters son, he’s in the murder business and business is good!

Top Pick: Champions #6 (Marvel) – This has been a fun, action packed series right from the beginning.  These characters make up a great team, and the writing has been on point, spotlighting issues that readers can relate to but also bringing in humour and fun between the characters.  I’m excited for this issue, seeing the team go up against another team of teens calling themselves The Freelancers.  I’m looking forward to see who makes up this new team and what their beef is with the Champions.

Batman #18 (DC Comics) – This is one of the few DC titles I have stuck with since the Rebirth, and it has consistently delivered.  I’m really enjoying this current story arc with Bane, especially when Batman put together his own suicide squad (a great couple of issues!)  And now, as the solicit says, Bane is in Gotham and looking for some payback.  Definitely not one to miss.

Top Pick: Motor Girl #4 (Abstract Studios) – Easily my favorite comic on the market right now. Terry Moore’s writing and art are just plain fun. Every issue has delivered and then some.

America #1 (Marvel) – A fan favorite character gets her solo series. I’m intrigued to see what it’s like and if it delivers. This is the comic that has the highest bar to get over.

Savage Things #1 (Vertigo) – Justin Jordan does Vertigo… you need more?

Agents of PACT #1/Freelance #1 (Chapterhouse Comics) – These two first issues I feel really kick off Chapterhouse’s superhero universe. So far most of their comics have been fun, so more to the part is awesome

All Time Comics Crime Destroyer #1 (Fantagraphics) – Another superhero universe launching. This one is a bit retro.

Smoketown #1 (Scout Comics) – Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s new series from Scout Comics. Johnson does solid comics and so does Scout, so the combo is something I’m looking forward to reading.
