Mind the Gap #1 and Epic Kill #1 Get 2nd Printings

IMAGE GETS A DOUBLE SELL-OUT
MIND THE GAP #1 and EPIC KILL #1 get second printings

Image Comics has announced that its two May 2 debut issues, MIND THE GAP #1 and EPIC KILL #1 have sold out at the distributor level. Both issues will return immediately to press and second printings will be in stores on May 23.

MIND THE GAP, a new series by Jim McCann (Return of the Dapper Men), Rodin Esquejo (MORNING GLORIES), and Sonia Oback, tells the story of Elle Petersen, a young woman attacked and left for dead on a subway platform. In a coma, Elle finds that her consciousness can travel both within the “real” world and another realm called “The Garden.” Without a body or memories of her life, Elle must piece together the mystery — who tried to kill her, and why?

“The entire Mind the Gap team is so thankful for the support and love the fans and retailers have given us!” said McCann. “Word is spreading, and we’re thrilled that more people will be able to dive into the mystery of Mind the Gap!”

The first issue, which is a double-sized 48 pages for $2.99, was hotly anticipated and received wide acclaim upon its release:

“With terrific art and a story that grabs you by both ears and pulls your face in, MIND THE GAP is a smart mystery thriller that turns tospy on a dime without losing the reader or talking down to him/her either.”
– Ain’t It Cool News

“MIND THE GAP is rich with potential for strange, sophisticated mystery.”
– iFanboy

“MIND THE GAP is a breath of fresh air in terms of new comics. It’s this kind of variety that continues to make reading stacks of comics each week fun and exciting.”
-Comic Vine

EPIC KILL by Raffaele Ienco also features a young woman with amnesia as the protagonist, but in a very different kind of story from MIND THE GAP. Song was trained since childhood to be a ruthless assassin, but she doesn’t know why. She only knows that she has to use her skills to evade the men sent to kill her by an unknown enemy. The truth about Song’s identity will unfold over the course of the series’ five-issue run, in which, Ienco promises, “Every kill we be epic!”

“Epic Kill #1 was released today and blam! it’s already time to do a second print!?  What!?” said an almost-disbelieving Ienco. “Retailers have tweeted the book is a hot item and reviews have been awesome; fans dig it – all of which I am very grateful! I would love to give the world more Epic Kill!”

EPIC KILL #1 has already delivered as promised, with reviewers ready for  more:

“Aside from the brilliant storytelling, the art that Ienco provides for the book is a real beauty to behold.”
-Nfamous Gamers

“On all fronts this book looks to be another success for Ienco…. The epic kills are worthy of the big screen.”
-Word of the Nerd

The second printings of MIND THE GAP #1 (MAR128267) and EPIC KILL #1 (MAR128258) are available for order from Diamond Comics now.

Due to a traffic accident involving one of Diamond’s trucks, some retailers in the Eastern United States will not have copies of MIND THE GAP #1 available for sale until May 9. Those retailers will receive the first printing of the issue to fulfill their orders, but will not be able to place re-orders for the first printing.

Pick of the Week – X-O Manowar #1

It’s hard not to go without X-O Manowar #1 as our “Pick of the Week.”  The buzz for the return of Valiant Comics has been building, built upon the excellent use of social media by the publisher.  X-O Manowar is their first release and really a good test to see if the wait and buzz was deserved.  I’m sure most shops will sell out of the comic, but will fans come back for the second issue and longer or is this a further example of 90’s nostalgia….

  • X-O Manowar #1 – see above
  • Mind the Gap #1 – Jim McCann’s newest series.  The man oozes talent and I can’t wait to see what he does at Image.
  • Daredevil #12 – Mark Waid has been kicking ass, there’s a reason this series is just building more and more buzz.
  • Pigs #7 – I’m in love with this Image series that blends noir and spy thrillers wrapped into a terrorist action story.  So amazing.
  • The Spider #1 – Dynamite has been mining the classics and been knocking it out of the park.  I expect no less from this first issue.

Mind the Gap Prologue

Coming this May by Jim McCann, Mind the Gap is a supernatural mystery features art by Rodin Esquejo and Sonia Oback and being published by Image Comics.

THE KEY TO A MYSTERY IS LOCKED IN MEMORY
New Image series Mind the Gap debuts new series by Jim McCann

Elle Peterssen is young, wealthy, and beautiful — and there is a reason someone tried to kill her. Only, Elle doesn’t remember any of this. MIND THE GAP, the new Image Comics series by the Eisner Award-winning writer Jim McCann (The Dapper Men) debuting on May 2, is a mystery with a paranormal twist. Elle, in a spirit form detached from her comatose body, must not only unravel the mystery of her attacker’s identity and motive but her entire life as well.

“I love the genre of the ‘whodunit.’ Psychological thrillers, murder mysteries, and film noir all influence me, and this story, heavily,” said writer Jim McCann. “It’s a preternatural story — something science acknowledges on the fringe but hasn’t proven yet.”

Between her family members’ and her friends’ perceptions of her, Elle can’t be sure which version of Ellis Peterssen is who she really was. But Elle must put together the pieces. Her identity holds the key to stopping her attacker before he can strike again.

“This is a book I’ve been excited about since Jim first pitched it,” noted Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson. “I feel like we really got lucky with this one, because Jim is a great writer and just a consummate professional, and Rodin — well, I’ve been admiring his cover work for ages, but that still didn’t prepare me for how insanely awesome his interior work is! Pleased beyond belief to be associated with such amazing talent!”

With gorgeous art by MORNING GLORIES cover artist Rodin Esquejo and colors by Sonia Oback, MIND THE GAP will trace the path Elle takes back to herself — and her would-be murderer. The art plays an integral role in uniting Elle’s disembodied experience and the real world, said McCann.

“This story will take on some otherworldly scenes, which the team handles beautifully, as well as some very real and gritty situations, sometimes even violent,” he said. “I wanted that to look as realistic as possible, and juxtapose it with the clean, beautiful atmosphere Rodin and Sonia deliver.”

MIND THE GAP #1 is a full-color 48-page comic book for $2.99 available for preorder in the March issue of Preview. (cover A: MAR120401, cover B: MAR120402). It will be in comic book stores and digital platforms on May 2. A preview of the issue’s 9-page prologue ran in USA Today on February 22.
