Obama Family Embraces Graphic Novels and read Jellaby

I saw this cross my Twitter feed, but looks like our newly re-elected Commander in Geek, President Obama, is passing his love for the comic form on to his daughters. Check out the picture below, that’d be Kean Soo‘s Jellaby in the hands of the first family. The photo is from 2008, but was recently posted at the source I found it.

How long before we finally see the President at one of our local Washington, DC comic shops!?

Michelle Obama and Daughters See Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark

Spider-man Turn Off the DarkFirst Lady Michelle Obama took her daughters this weekend to Broadway to catch some shows, one of which was Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark on Sunday afternoon.

According to ArtsBeat there was a bomb scare, believed to be unrelated to the Obamas’ visit. This led to the questioning of a theatergoer and a search of his bags by the police and Secret Service agents. A spokesman for the production said; nothing suspicious was found.

Mrs. Obama had the prime aisle seat that’s often set aside for celebrities because Spider-Man lands a few feet away during the show. Actor Christopher Tierney was Spider-Man for the show and he dropped down and saluted the First Lady who laughed and waved back.

Barack, Meet Miles

Ultimate Comics Fallout #4 Preview2Third grade students from The Sumner Elementary school are on their way to Washington, DC for the planting of the White House Kitchen Garden with first lady Michelle Obama.  Local comic book store Acme Comics decided to use the opportunity to pass along comic books to President Obama, a self admitted comic book fan.

Acme Comics staff gave the students copies of Ultimate Fallout #4, the first appearance of the Miles Morales Spider-Man, as well as G-Man: Cape Crisis #2 set in Greensboro, North Carolina where the store is located.  The hope is the first lady will pass along the comic books to her husband.

I wonder what the President’s thoughts are on the new Spider-Man?

Female Force offers a broad examination of strong and influential women who are shaping modern history and culture. Each woman featured in the trade paperback will include alternate cover drawings.

“We are thrilled with the reception of these bio comics. We know that this trade paperback anthology is only the first of many volumes to come,” Davis added.
