We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #2 is packed with action, tension, and laughs

We're Taking Everyone Down With Us #2

War has come to Annalise’s secluded island home. Luckily for her, one of her father’s robot-men found her before the enemy forces did. The robot’s only directive is to get Annalise off the island alive. But she has another plan… The explosive saga of love and revenge, mad scientists and super-spies, and the child caught in between continues here! We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #2 continues what was a fantastic debut and has us even more excited for what comes next.

Action, drama, laughs, We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #2 has it all as the chaos of the first issue plays out and Annalise attempts to not just figure out what the hell is going on but also find her dad. Around Annalise are clueless soldiers not sure who to kill, robots ordered to protect her, fire, explosions, and more. We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #2 is packed with not just more action and humor but also revealing who Annalise is up against the group after her dad.

Writer Matthew Rosenberg continues the excellent series and balances not just the chaos of battle but also introducing the dipshit heroes after Annalise’s father. Rosenberg introduces a cast that’s full of personality, both good and bad. They’re a dysfunctional group with every member featuring quirks that’ll have you shaking your head along with laughing. It’s a fantastic dive into characters and introduction that keeps the comic flowing and pays off more and more as the comic progresses. It also has you cheering on Annalise even more. The first issue made us feel bad for her and the relationship with her father. The second issue has you wondering how this group of idiots killed her father and you wanting her to get her revenge. Partially because she deserves it in some ways but also because the group she’ll go up against are just people you want to punch.

The art be Stefano Landini helps put the punch in the humor. Moments that are already funny become even more so with Landini’s art that just emphasizes the absurdity of the moment. Two soldiers arguing over what’s going on and what defines a “cannibal monkey” plays even better based on body language. Landini is helped by Jason Wordie‘s colors and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou‘s lettering which each nail down the moment and rollercoaster of a ride that is the story. The art really elevates the laughs as well as the emotional punches with small details that add to the reading experience.

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #2 is a fantastic second issue that has us pumped to see what comes next. It has it all and most importantly an entertaining cast of characters that has us wanting to see more of this world. Hopefully, we get exactly that and Rosenberg expands the series, mostly so we can get more of this quality.

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #1 delivers an intriguing, exciting, and sad, start

We're Taking Everyone Down With Us #1

After her mad-scientist father is killed by the world’s greatest spy, 13-year-old Annalise is left all alone in the world. Sort of. Her dead dad’s robot bodyguard is following her around for some reason. Now Annalise has a choice: try to lead a normal life for the first time ever…or seek revenge and maybe overthrow the world order in the process. We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #1 delivers an excellent start that feels like a love letter to pulp adventures and plays with the heart.

Written by Matthew Rosenberg, We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #1 is another home run debut. The issue is an interesting one, focusing in on a young girl who is disconnected from her father. There’s teases that he might not be the best person in the world for multiple reasons, but it’s a focus that tugs at heart strings.

Rosenberg makes it hard to not feel for Annalise. Her loneliness and feel of rejection is hard to not connect with and as a parent, hard to not feel anger on her behalf. It’s a villains story from the perspective of the villain’s neglected child.

Stefano Landini‘s art is perfect for this story so far. With color by Ramon Titov and Jason Wordie and lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, the issue captures both its pulp sci-fi roots but also has a haunting sadness to it that plays into Annalise’s loneliness. The designs feel like it plays off of some of the classic mad scientist stories of the past with images that feel both fresh and familiar. The style is an exciting one that feels like it fits so well with the many different aspects of the story.

We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us #1 is a fantastic debut exceeding the high bar we expected with a debut from Rosenberg. There’s so much teased and thrown into this single issue and it does an amazing job of introducing this world and these characters without dumbing it down. This is sure to be another hit series and one we’re excited to see what comes next.
