C2E2: Will Friedle joins the voice cast for the Radiant Black audiobook

Radiant Black is going from page to audio and will be the first Image Comics title to be adapted for an audiobook. Radiant Black: The Audiobook, Volume One will feature a full voice cast headlined by Rider Strong and Will Friedle playing leads Nathan Burnett and Marshall Ward, respectively. The audiobook is written, directed, and narrated by Radiant Black co-creator and Massive-Verse architect, Kyle Higgins.

Radiant Black: The Audiobook, Volume One will be the first in a planned series of audiobook adaptations from Black Market Narrative and Image Comics, adding another level of immersion to the critically and commercially acclaimed Massive-Verse. It is the first ever audiobook adaptation of an Image Comics title and is slated to release later this year.

On Saturday, during c2e2 in Chicago, the Massive-verse team took to the stage during their Massive-verse panel to announce the upcoming venture to a packed audience.

This video teaser comes to fans in the midst of a huge multi-timeline publishing event called “The Catalyst War,” which has left the fate of the Radiant Black mantle up to readers to decide—thanks to a shocking surprise vote at the end of last year’s issue #24.

Radiant Black: The Audiobook, Volume One will adapt the first volume of the Eisner award-nominated series created by Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa, with subsequent audio volumes planned and more star-studded voice casting yet to be revealed in the coming months.

“Catalyst War” splits Radiant Black

Known for pushing the envelope with unique twists, easter eggs, and multimedia tie-ins, the Massive-Verse’s Radiant Black, by Kyle Higgins, Marcelo Costa, Eduardo Ferigato, and Joe Clark, will have fans doing a double-take next month yet again—literally—with the release of two issues: Radiant Black #26 and the Radiant Black #26.5.

One storyline follows Marshall, one storyline puts the spotlight on Nathan, but both issues are a must-buy for readers to get the full experience. There are, after all, two sides to every story.

“Catalyst War” has been two years in the making and an event told across timelines featuring two different art teams telling two different stories each month. Both timelines are integral to the event featuring the choices of Marshall and Nathan and how those choices impact their worlds. By the end, readers will find out who will be Radiant Black going forward.

The “.5” storyline will run through Radiant Black #30 and Radiant Black #30.5 before hitting fans with another jaw-dropping plot twist.

Latin and Latinx heroes share their powers and culture on Marvel Comunidades covers and stories

From Spider-Man to America Chavez, Latin and Latinx super heroes make the Marvel Universe a richer place each and every month! This October, Marvel honors Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month by spotlighting some its newer and fan-favorite Latin and Latinx characters.

In the same spirit as Marvel’s Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander History Month celebration this past May, select issues in October will feature stunning variant covers depicting Latin and Latinx heroes. Within the pages of those very issues, those characters will team up with the titular stars in all-new bonus adventures! This year’s Comunidades Variant Covers will be drawn by acclaimed artist Ernanda Souza, and the stories will be told by a diverse lineup of Latin and Latinx creators, each one bringing their unique background, experience, and voice to Marvel Comics storytelling!

Hailing from all corners of the Marvel mythos, this year’s spotlight characters feature Firebird, Shark-Girl, Power Man (Victor Alvarez), and Eva Quintero of Strange Academy. Not only are these stories perfect for introducing or reintroducing these beloved characters to readers, but they’ll also position them for their own bright futures! Here’s what fans can expect:

  • Writer Juan Ponce and artist Ig Guara catch up with one of Strange Academy’s most promising pupils! Eva Quintero “borrows” a book from the Scarlet Witch’s private collection and gets more than she bargained for when the book sucks her into a demonic realm! With the help of her Strange Academy teacher, Wanda Maximoff, Eva must find a way to escape before she’s trapped between the pages forever!
  • Former Avenger Firebird brings her fiery passion to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes once more in an adventure by writer Kalinda Vasquez and artist Alba Glez. Alongside Captain Marvel and Captain America, Firebird is called upon by the Avengers to investigate a mystery in the desert. Their quest will lead them straight to an all-new character with secrets to reveal deep within… Roswell, New Mexico!
  • Writer Vita Ayala and artist Alitha Martinez send Victor Alvarez, a.k.a. Power Man on an exciting new journey. But first, he’ll have to survive a battle with the strongest there is! Chasing down a threat, Power Man winds up locked in a brawl with the Incredible Hulk!
  • Fresh off their Marvel debut in Marvel’s Voices: X-Men, writing duo Raphael Draccon and Carolina Munhóz will join artist Marcelo Costa to bring together Shark-Girl and Sunspot! The two mutants team up for the very first time as they return to their home nation of Brazil to investigate mysterious disappearances of local fisherman—but when their investigation leads them to “Ilha da Queimada Grande”, they find themselves in a showdown with King Cobra! Together, Shark-Girl and Sunspot have to act fast to stop King Cobra’s nefarious plans—and try not to fall victim to the local fauna in the process!

Check out the first Comunidades Variant Covers and stay tuned for more to be revealed in the weeks ahead. And celebrate Marvel’s Latin and Latinx heroes and creators this October!

Fans who attend will enter Existence with unique narrative experiences that shine new light on the Radiants, visit the real world—reel world?—locations portrayed in the pages of Radiant Black (including Embers and the Roxy theatre in downtown Lockport), and partake in unique photo opportunities and surprise giveaway items.

Then, on Friday, August 5 at 1 PM at the McCormick Place Convention Center, c2e2 attendees are invited to head over to room S401 for the Across the Massive-verse panel. The Image Comics Massive-Verse is only getting started—and this panel is the only place to find out what’s next! Join Higgins, Ferigato, Parrott, Flores, Chen, Groom, and Busuttil for an exclusive Q&A guaranteed to spill the secrets of the Massive-Verse!

Higgins and Costa’s breakout hit Radiant Black took superhero storytelling to new heights when it launched—but Radiant Black isn’t the only character inhabiting the Massive-verse. There’s a whole universe for readers to explore! Characters like Rogue Sun, Inferno Girl Red, The Dead Lucky’s Bibiana—and more yet to be revealed—all occupy the Massive-verse. Each of them has a different story to tell, different adversaries to face… and they each occupy a very different corner of this shared universe.

It is set to launch this March from Image Comics

To her students, Satomi Sone is a diligent middle school teacher. To her fiancé and parents, she’s the rock of their family. To the world, she’s Radiant Red, a criminal turned matter-absorbing superhero.

But with a mysterious stranger in her classroom, a nosy reporter on her doorstep, and $2.5 million hidden in the air vents of her house, she’s going to have to decide who she is, and quickly—before the world chooses for her.

Radiant Red #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, March 16.
