My Hero Academia gets a live-action movie at Netflix

My Hero Academia

Netflix is giving another anime/manga the live-action treatment as Legendary Entertainment‘s My Hero Academia is heading there.

Shinsuke Sato will direct the project in his English-language debut working off a screenplay from Joby Harold. My Hero Academia is based on the popular manga written and illustrated by Kohei Horikoshi. It boasts over 65 million copies in circulation.

The story follows superhero fanboy Izuku Midoriya who is born without a “quirk”. 80% of Earth’s population has manifested one that grants them special abilities. After meeting the greatest hero ever, Midoriya voes to work hard to become a symbol of peace for the world.

The series has been part of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump since 2014. As of October 2022, the series has been collected in 36 volumes. It has spawned spin-off series, stage plays, and a lot of merchandise.

New Anime and Manga this April from VIZ Media!

VIZ Media has some highly anticipated new home media and publishing releases debuting this month. New titles include set 1 of the anime series Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, as well as My Hero Academia: School Briefs, a short story collection based on the hit superhero action series created by Kohei Horikoshi. Nier:Automata: Short Story Long is the second novel adaptation based on the best-selling video game. Horror master Junji Ito’s Smashed: Junji Ito Story Collection will contain thirteen manga stories and debut later in the month.

The last two titles set for release include The Art of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Nausiccaä of the Valley of the Wind Picture Book. Each book features vivid Studio Ghibli art from the legendary director Hayao Miyazaki.

SDCC 2018: VIZ Media Announces New Titles Debuting in Early 2019

VIZ Media expands its publishing catalog with a variety of new acquisitions announced during its official panel events held this past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

The new titles are scheduled for release beginning early next year and include My Hero Academia: School Briefs, the first of three prose short story collections based on the hit superhero action series created by Kohei Horikoshi. Rumiko Takahashi’s beloved manga series Urusei Yatsura receives a new large trim edition, and Hiromu Arakawa brings us hilarious four-panel comics from the world of Fullmetal Alchemist. Two new Nausiccaä books, The Art of Nausiccaä of the Valley of the Wind and Nausiccaä of the Valley of the Wind Picture Book were also announced. Each book features vivid Studio Ghibli art from the legendary director Hayao Miyazaki.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Launches this July from VIZ

VIZ Media has announced a new series set in the world of the bestselling manga series My Hero Academia with the release of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes on July 3rd.

The new comedy-action series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been highly anticipated by manga readers. The series is rated ‘T’ for Teens and will be published in print and digital editions under the Shonen Jump imprint. The print MSRP for Volume 1 will be $9.99 U.S. / $12.99 CAN. Digital editions will be available via viz.com and the VIZ Manga App, as well as from the Nook, Kobo, Kindle, iBooks, comiXology, and Google Play stores.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes features story by Hideyuki Furuhashi and artwork by Betten Court and is based on original concepts by My Hero Academia series creator Kohei Horikoshi. Future volumes of the series will be published every four months.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is set in a superpowered society, where there is nothing ordinary about evil anymore. Heroes, trained and licensed to protect and defend the public against supervillains, stand above all the rest. Not everyone can be a hero, however, and there are those who would use their powers to serve the people without legal sanction. VIZ Media will welcome My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi for his first-ever North American professional appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

Kohei Horikoshi is scheduled to participate in a variety of events during the convention including the official My Hero Academia panel discussion. The panel will feature several notable voice actors including Christopher R. Sabat, voice of All Might, and Justin Briner, voice of Deku, from the anime adaptation of the popular series. The creator will also be a part of VIZ Media’s Weekly Shonen Jump panel. A pair of autograph sessions are also scheduled to take place during the show. Event times and additional information will be announced soon.

San Diego Comic-Con is one of the nation’s largest comic book, science fiction, and pop culture events, and will take place July 18th–22nd at the San Diego Convention Center, in San Diego, CA. VIZ Media will be located in Booth #2813.

Kohei Horikoshi was born in Aichi, Japan, in 1986. He received a Tezuka Award Honorable Mention in 2006, and after publishing several short stories in Akamaru Jump, his first serialized work in Weekly Shonen Jump was Oumagadoki Doubutsuen in 2010. BARRAGE and his current series, MY HERO ACADEMIA are published in English by VIZ Media.

VIZ Media Acquires My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia is a new breakout hit by Kohei Horikoshi, the creator of  Barrage (also published by VIZ Media). His new series is rated ‘T’ for Teens and will launch in North America in August in print and also digitally across all territories serviced by VIZManga.com and the VIZ MANGA App. The title also will be available internationally from select VIZ Media content partners’ proprietary digital platforms.

My Hero Academia is presently serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, which is published in Japan by VIZ Media parent company, Shueisha, Inc. The ongoing series also appears in the latest digital English editions of Weekly Shonen Jump, which is published by VIZ Media on the same day as the Japanese counterpart with simultaneous, multi-territory global release.
