Constellations is a hell of a graphic novel debut!

Are you supposed to be a boy or a girl?

It’s a question that follows Claire everywhere. Inescapable on the street, in school, and even at home. A black hole forever trying to pull them in. But as long as they have ride-or-die best friend Greg at their side and a drink in their hand, everything will be okay. Right?

Except, Claire can never have just one drink. And when harassment at school reaches a fever pitch, Claire begins a spiral that ends in court-ordered rehab. Feeling completely lost, Claire is soon surrounded by a group of new friends and, with the help of a patient counselor, finds a space to unpack all the bad they’ve experienced. But as Claire’s release gets closer so does the question: Can Claire stay sober and true in a world seemingly never made for them?

Nick Tapalansky, Kate Glasheen, IDW, and Top Shelf’s A Radical Shift of Gravity is being adapted for film

A Radical Shift

IDW has joined with Todd Lieberman’s Hidden Pictures to develop the IDW/Top Shelf graphic novel A Radical Shift of Gravity into a feature film. Academy Award nominee Matt Charman will adapt the widely acclaimed science fiction work created by Nick Tapalansky and Kate Glasheen. Charman earned his Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination for the 2015 film Bridge of Spies.

A Radical Shift of Gravity is a science-fiction fable that explores the ties that bind a family together, the forces that threaten to pull them apart, and the quiet beauty of a world where everyone is floating away. Noah is a father and journalist raising a rebellious daughter facing a massive planetary transformation – their world has begun to lose gravity, a force everyone has always taken for granted.  Noah spends his days documenting the wondrous and terrifying shifts all around him as his daughter faces her own challenges of growing older in a radically changing world.

For Hidden Pictures, Todd Lieberman and Alex Young will produce, and David Glickman will executive produce. Paul Davidson, Jonny Gutman, and Julie Winograd will produce on behalf of IDW.

A Library Guild Selection, A Radical Shift of Gravity is critically hailed as a heartfelt and thought-provoking parable that captures the uncertainties of 21st-century life.

Falling in love and raising a rebellious daughter adds new meaning to lie in this mysterious floating world. As he covers the invention of new sports, interviews experts, and even journeys into space, each experience shapes how Noah views the world and, in turn, his relationship with his family. Hybrid Bastards! HardcoverWhat a weird little comic.  I don’t even know where to begin to describe what Hybrid Bastards! is about.  Written by Tom Pinchuk and illustrated by Kate Glasheen this collection of the mini series follows the bastard sons of Zeus.  The various characters aren’t quite normal and are hybrids of Zeus’s dalliances with inanimate objects (and one hobo).

Zeus is a god with a reputation for lechery, and it’s been driving his wife Hera nuts for years. Reaching her limit one night, she puts together an epic practical joke: She places a spell on Zeus that makes him fall in lust with every inanimate object in sight! It was a night Zeus doesn’t remember, but his godly seed took root nevertheless. Now, 18 years later, his unnatural hybrid bastards wander the world. And because Zeus has a reputation to protect, these embarrassing freaks have got to go! But this motley crew refuses to go quietly. Through schemes both ingenious and idiotic, Zeus’ bastard children—Cotton, a smarmy cloth patchwork; Carmine, a timid automobile; Corey, a self-loathing apple; Walter, a belligerent stack of bricks; and Panos, their gallant would-be leader—will force their negligent father to acknowledge them…that is, if their own squabbling doesn’t defeat them first! Collecting the mini-series that takes Greek mythology in a decidedly different direction, the HYBRID BASTARDS hardcover includes a bonus story and pin-up gallery.

The graphic novel has two parts, the first being the caper of the sons of Zeus looking to get some recognition from their father.  The second half is a court case after their caper goes awry.

The story is pretty humorous, and my only issue is at times the art is a bit difficult to figure out what’s going on.  But overall the story is very unique and entertaining.  If you’re looking for a funny, unique story, this is one to check out.
