In the small Midwestern town of Howlett, navigating high school is tough enough. But when a group of friends are inexplicably turned into weredogs, adapting to their new powers proves to be even tougher. This leads to an unlikely friendship with loner Mara, a werewolf whose father has mysteriously vanished. As the high schoolers team up to solve the disappearance, friendships are tested, and secrets are revealed as the Werewoofs prove themselves in an explosive showdown against a dangerous wolfpack and their vicious alpha.

When the classic NBC series Punky Brewster went off the air in 1988, its charming story stayed in our hearts. I think it’s because Punky, her foster dad Henry, and her loyal dog Brandon may not look like a traditional family, but their irrepressible love for each other can overcome all obstacles. It’s a transcendent message that’s especially worth retelling today, and that’s exactly what Roar Comics has done with its all-new Punky Brewster graphic novel series for middle-grade readers.

Just like the original, the graphic novel Punky is a bright eight-year-old girl who has been abandoned by her mother and lives on the streets of Chicago with her puppy sidekick. Punky thinks she doesn’t need help, but after getting picked up by the police she enters a foster home where she meets Henry, a long-lost relative. Punky decides he’s the adoptive dad for her but she has to convince the foster home, judges and lawyers, and possibly Henry himself. Luckily, she’s got an unbeatable resource — her limitless reserve of Punky Power!

Television veteran Joelle Sellner (Teen Titans, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes) and breakout new art talent Lesley Vamos have crafted a fun, funny, and real story about one little kid’s unassailable optimism and indefatigable search for a place to call home.

Time out – we need to talk about high school. Specifically Bayside High School, where we got to know our pals Zack, Slater, Kelly, Lisa, Screech, and Jessie. Relatable but safe for younger kids, a whole generation grew up watching the misadventures of these teen idols on the classic television series Saved By the Bell. At a time when Saturday morning was ruled by cartoons, the show ushered in an era of live-action tween comedies that still reigns supreme, and now Roar Comics is bringing the magic back for today’s young readers in the very first Saved By the Bell graphic novel.

Kicking things off at the perfect starting point for newbies, the series is a modern reboot set during the Bayside gang’s freshman year, where they’ve traded in their brick cell phones for Twitter accounts and iPhones. But these inseparable friends still have the same chemistry and camaraderie we remember from the old days. Written by television vet Joelle Sellner (Teen Titans, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes) with expressive artwork by multiple Eisner Award-nominated Chynna Clugston Flores (Blue Monday, Queen Bee) and Tim Fish (The Graphic Canon, Uncanny X-Men: Nation X), Saved By the Bell is a zany yet still grounded coming of age story reminiscent of classic teen humor comics but with a cutting edge.
