Black Panther Annual #1 (Marvel) – Some of Black Panther’s greatest creators return for this annual.
Deathbed #1 (Vertigo) – We’ve read it, it’s amazing and entertaining. A writer is hired to tell the life of a mysterious person… then the twist happens.
Fence #4 (BOOM! Studios) – A wonderful series that takes the best of sports focused manga and gives it a Western twist. Every issues is fantastic.
Hit-Girl #1 (Image Comics) – The Kick-Ass reboot was a mixed bag but we’re hoping this one will be better.
Infinity Countdown: Prime #1 (Marvel) – Marvel’s next event is gearing up and we’re excited to see where it goes.
James Bond: The Body #2 (Dynamite Entertainment) – Have you read the first issue!? Bond recounts tales as to how he received the scars he has. A fantastic way to frame the story.
Mata Hari #1 (Dark Horse/Berger Books) – A new release from Berger Books is on our radar and a series we’re automatically looking forward to checking out.
Punks Not Dead #1 (IDW Publishing/Black Crown) – A new release from Black Crown is on our radar and a series we’re automatically looking forward to checking out.
Quantum and Woody #3 (Valiant) – One of the most entertaining superhero comics on the market. The team up will keep you entertained from the action and the laughter.
Rust Vol. 4 (BOOM! Studios/Archaia) – If you’ve read the first three volumes of this series, you know why it’s on this list. From the beautiful art to the amazing storytelling, this volume wraps up the series about a mechanical boy trying to live his life post war. We’re expecting a tearjerker.
As Bond undergoes a post-mission medical examination, he relays the story of his previous mission to the examiner. Each cut, bruise, and broken bone connected to a specific event of the mission. A connection is made between two people with different purposes: one to save lives, the other to take them.
The concept along of Ales Kot writing James Bond stops to get me to take notice. The idea of a story being relayed based on the bruises on Bond’s body is a concept that’s so simple I’m amazed it hasn’t been done before.
James Bond: The Body #1 has a very worked over Bond at the physician’s office being asked about his latest mission and recounting how his current state came to be. There’s something so simple in this framing that it’s amazing it’s taken so long for this to happen (and if it has in the past, it’s new to me).
Kot nails so much in the story especially the interaction between the doctor and Bond. But, it’s the mission itself that’s most interesting. An assassination that must be prevented, there’s something at the end that twists the story in a way that’ll keep you thinking and wondering. Through the brutality, there’s a humanity about it all. The perp and Bond himself.
The art by Luca Casalanguida delivers every bruise and bump in detail. You know why his eye is closed and the ribs are broken. As a reader you wince at each punch, bump, and bruise.
I love the concept and want to see what comes next. There’s a simplicity about it that’s utterly brilliant and Kot and Casalanguida combine for a story that has you wondering how this hasn’t happened earlier. A solid story that can be picked up as a one-shot and I think something greater, it’s completely entertaining and a definite buy.

Top Pick: Avengers #676 (Marvel) – Who or what is this Voyager? The statue of the founding members of the Avengers had a new addition to it at the end of Secret Wars, and now Voyager has ‘returned’, with everyone seeming to know her. I wasn’t a huge fan of this when it was done with the Sentry, so this type of ‘introduction’ did make my eyes roll. BUT, I am intrigued in this story; what happened to the Earth? Who moved it and why? And I just love seeing all the various Avengers assembled (LOVED seeing Lightning, formally Living Lightning, again).
All-New Wolverine #29 (Marvel) – I’m loving this ‘Orphans of X’ storyline. It is a scary thought to think of all the people who have been effected by battles involving the X-Men, but even scarier to see them come together so organized to take them out.
Champions #16 (Marvel) – I am just in love with this title, as anyone who has read my reviews can tell. I am partial to the original line up but I am very excited at the prospect of a new member or members joining their ranks. The team has met up with some interesting teen heroes on their past adventures, so I am looking forward to seeing who will step up to the challenge. I just hope this isn’t one of those “interview the newbies but by the end realize we’re fine as we are” issues. I will not be pleased.
Generation X #86 (Marvel) – Yes, I am a glutton for punishment for still reading this book. I just can’t let go of my Gen X’ers and this issue promises the return of an original member. That is really the only reason this title is on my list.
X-Men Gold #20 (Marvel) – I love it when the X-Men go on space adventures, and this latest story has been pretty good. I’m really happy to see lesser used members like Ink and Armor being part of this team, as it makes for a different dynamic. Unfortunately, our team is now stranded on a unknown planet and the solicit promises a big ‘status quo’ altering event at the end of the issue. I’ll definitely be reading to see what happens.

Top Pick: Days of Hate #1 (Image Comics) – I’ve read this first issue and hours later I’m still reflecting on it. A hell of a start. It’s the future and things have continued to go in the same direction it’s going now. Hate crimes are rampant and there’s a hint about another Civil War. This is a dystopian future that’s all too real.
Fence #3 (BOOM! Studios) – One of the best new series out last year. The comic is about students at an academy in a fencing club. A fantastic mix of sports manga with a western sense.
James Bond: The Body #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – Every bruise and scar on James Bond’s body has a story. That concept has me intrigued as to how it’ll translate into a come series. Lots of potential with this one.
Strangers in Paradise XXV #1 (Abstract Studios) – Celebrating 25 years with a brand new series. America’s favorite couple is back!
Transformers: Optimus Prime #15 (IDW Publishing) – Onyx Prime is back!

Harley Quinn #35 (DC Comics) – Frank Tieri has a good track record writing female characters. Looking forward to seeing what he does with Harley post the Palmiotti/Conner run.
America #11 (Marvel) – The start of the “Midas Wars” and America protecting her homes.

Dynamite Entertainment has announced that Ales Kot, the Czech-born writer best known for his work on the popular series Zero and Secret Avengers, has been tapped to helm the latest entry into the James Bond universe with James Bond: The Body. The latest tale of international intrigue and espionage will feature six issues, each with an original story line that will unite the full series, and is set for a January 2018 launch!
