Pan Peters Out, Martian Holds On

pan-film-posters-full-celebrity-watchdog-insertPan, the latest spin on the Peter Pan story, tanked this weekend as the film estimated to have earned just $15.5 million over the weekend.

The Martian repeated the weekend earning an estimated $37 million to bring its domestic total to $108.7 million. Hotel Transylvania 2 added $20.3 million to its total.

In other geeky news, Inside Out earned $440,000, Minions added $239,000 to its total, Jurassic World added $208,000, and Ant-Man earned $92,000.

The Martian Takes the Top Spot

The MartianThe Martian took the top spot at the box-office, earning $55 million. That’s just shy of the record for October which was $55.7 million. The film also earned an “A” CinemaScore, which means the film should do well for some time.

The Martian also opened in 49 international markets. There it earned $45.2 million, and that brings its total to $100.2 million. The film’s full international schedule doesn’t have it opening up in all markets until February 2016.

The other big opening was The Walk which earned $1.55 million. but that was in IMAX theaters and other premium large screens. This hasn’t really been done before, so… I guess it was good?

Last week’s box-office champ Hotel Transylvania 2 came in second and earned $33 million. Sicario came in third in its third week adding $12.1 million to its domestic total.

In other geeky movie news, Minions came in 17th and added $310,000; Jurassic World added $281,000; Inside Out added $240,000; Ant-Man added $132,000 to their totals.

Hotel Transylvania 2 Tops the Box-Office with a Record

Hotel Transylvania 2Hotel Transylvania 2 has broken a September record and earned an estimated $47.5 million this past weekend. The first film opened two years ago, and was the previous record holder. This one beat that by $5 million.

The Intern opened in second place with $18.225 million and The Green Inferno also debuted and came in ninth with $3.494 million.

The previous weekend winner Mazer Runner: The Scorch Trials dropped to third bringing in an estimated $14 million.

In other geek film news, Minions added $444,000 to its total; Jurassic World added $387,000 to its total, Inside Out added $382,000 to its total; and Ant-Man added $360,000 to its total.
