Southern-fried Sword and sorcery gets its due… Grit returns to Print in July

Mad Cave Studios is bringing Grit back to print, returning readers to the brutal, off-kilter world from Brian Wickman and Kevin Castaniero, with colors by Simon Gough, and letters by three-time Ringo nominee Micah Myers.

From feral packs of bog-hounds to goblin gang wars, Old Man Barrow’s solved plenty of problems with the swing of his axe…but when a routine troll hunt spirals into a brush with a would-be doomsday cult, he may be in more trouble than he can chop his way out of. Saddled with Ari, a sharp-tempered witch with little patience for his blood-soaked ways, Barrow is dragged into grotesque occult rituals, the jeering warbles of trash-talking songbirds, and a fight he can’t win on his own…whether he admits it or not.

For readers who like their fantasy mean, weird, and a little unhinged, Grit sits alongside Head Lopper and Orc Stain, balancing brutality and dark humor without sanding down either edge. Originally released by Scout Comics in 2020, the series returns here in a new edition.

Well, that axe ain’t just for show. Grit is Southern-fried sword and sorcery and pulp fantasy adventure in the mold of The Witcher by way of Southern Bastards.

Grit is by writer Brian Wickman and artist Kevin Castaniero. Each deluxe title box contains a complete set of comics! There’s a mystery element in each box offering that includes rare variants and out off print covers. Some of boxes may also contain extremely rare HOLOFOIL editions that can only be found within!

Along with the set of single issues you also get a digital download/collectible card of each series in Scout’s new COMIC TAG format! These limited edition collectibles look just like a mini comic book with a collectible card attached!

The Grit Tuesday Title Box features Girt #1-3, and the comic tag featuring a digital copy of the graphic novel. Limited to 200 boxes, it retails for $24.99.

Scout Comics’ Wave Two Comic Tags Are Now Available!

The second wave of Scout Comics‘ Comic Tags have been revealed and are now available. The second wave includes Grit, Metalshark Bro: Volume One, Once Our Land: Volume One, Solar Flare: Season Two, Heavenly Blues, The Shepherd: Volume One, Smoketown, and Infernoct.

Scout has hinted more publishers are coming on board in the future.

Comic Tags is a way to both distribute and collect digital comic books that addresses some of the biggest problems that comic publishers and comic collectors face. Comic Tags are a hybrid of comic books and trading cards.

These limited edition collectible cards each have a unique scratch off code to download a PDF copy of the graphic novel featured on the card. They’re attached to hangable backers that open, close, and look like a mini-comic book. These backers have interiors that are pulled right from the comic, giving you a glimpse at what you’re getting and a fun art piece to hang on to along with the collectible card.

Comic Tags have a price point lower than buying typical print and digital trade paperbacks. Most graphic novels are priced between $14.99 and $29.99 each.

Like the first wave release, the second wave of Comic Tags are launching at a retail price of only $6.99 each. For collectors, it’s a fraction of the trade paperback price. For publishers, it’s a whole new product line and profitable way to sell their digital books.

Scout Comics has revealed its four NYCC exclusives this year, All four are first issues of some current and upcoming Scout titles: Phantom Starkiller, Sh*tshow, Grit, and It Eats What Feeds It. These exclusives will be title-free covers on gorgeous 100lb heavy card stock. 

All exclusive Scout NYCC titles will be available at the Scout’s webstore starting NOW, October 7, 2020 for $25.00 a piece.

Old Man Barrow, known best for his sour attitude and his ruthless efficiency. He bites off more than he can chew when a routine troll-hunting gig goes awry, landing him in the clutches of a backwoods doomsday cult. Ignorant to the true nature of the malign forces at work, Barrow is forced to team up with Ari, a hot-headed young witch dead set on breaking him of his ultra-violent habits. Swamp hags and goblin gangs be damned, it’ll be a miracle if these unlikely allies can make it through this mess without killing each other!

Grit is a brand-new comic series coming out July 2020 from writer Brian Wickman, art by Kevin Castaniero, color by Simon Gough, and lettering by Micah Myers. Scout Comics will publish it.
