I Survived The California Wildfires 2018 is a nice introduction to this reality for kids

All across California, deadly wildfires rage . . .

Still reeling from the life-changing challenges that propelled him and his mother across the country, Josh finds solace in the California wilderness and in the newfound friendship with his cousin Holly.

But on a trip into the nearby forest, Josh and Holly suddenly find themselves in the middle of a frighteningly powerful firestorm, one which threatens to burn down everything in its path. Josh needs to confront the family issues burning him up inside, but first he’ll have to survive the flames roaring all around him.

I Survived the Japanese Tsunami, 2011 is a great graphic novel to teach kids about the tragedy

It’s hard enough that Ben is visiting Japan only four months after his dad’s death, especially since it’s where his dad grew up. But one morning, Ben’s grief turns to fear when a massive earthquake rocks the quiet coastal village where he’s staying. His family narrowly escapes a collapsing house, only to find that the ocean is rising up. Ben and his family are swept away — and pulled apart — by a devastating tsunami.

Now Ben is alone, stranded in an unfamiliar country thousands of miles from home. Can he find enough courage and strength to survive one of the most epic disasters of all time?

Review: I Survived: The Nazi Invasion, 1944

Perfectly timed for International Holocaust Remembrance Day, I Survived: The Nazi Invasion, 1944 tells the story of two children as they fight to survive in Nazi-occupied Poland.

It’s a solid introduction to World War II and the Holocaust with extra material to help further educate on the history.
