When I see Michel Fiffe‘s name on a comic property from my childhood, I immediately know it’s going to be a story that feels like it sprung from my childhood. Fiffe has a knack for putting together stories that feel like they’re a fan playing with the toys and just seeing where it goes. G.I. Joe: Sierra Muerte #1 is an example of that as the Joes take on Cobra in an over the top and at times humorous adventure.
Fiffe brings his usual enthusiasm to the story creating his own take that you can feel his love of the material. There are the usual ticks of Fiffe that includes a storytelling style that at times can be a bit choppy and action that can be as well. Again, this adds to the charm in a way making it feel like a child full of enthusiasm telling a story.
On top of Fiffe’s entertaining story, Chad Bowers delivers some history of G.I. Joe, in this case the varied geography of the fictional world.
It all comes together for a comic for those that love G.I. Joe and have fond memories creating battles of their own with their imagination.

Magical Beatdown #1 (Silver Sprocket) – Hyper violent street harassment revenge fantasy in the style of Sailor Moon about about an average schoolgirl who transforms into a foul-mouthed and rage-fuelled Magical Girl. Yeah, we’re sold.
Marvel Action: Avengers #2 (IDW Publishing) – The first issue was solid all-ages fun and we’re expecting the same from this second issue.
Red Sonja #1 (Dynamite Entertainment) – Mark Russell taking on Red Sonja? Yeah, we’re intrigued.
Vindication #1 (Image Comics/Top Cow Productions) – We’re nervous and intrigued on this one which seems to be taking on police corruption and our broken judicial system.
The Wrong Earth #6 (AHOY Comics) – One of the best new series in the past year from the best new publisher wraps up its first story arc.
