Comic Book Artist Gets Help

The Brattleboro Reformer brings us a story we covered earlier.  They highlight the struggle of comic book artist Ed Hannigan and the help the Hero Initiative is providing for him during his battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Hannigan was one of the artists that was behind the cover art for some of Marvel Comics’ and DC Comics’ most famous characters for over 20 years.  His was a “who’s who” of super hero’s including covers for Spectacular Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, Hulk, Daredevil, Defenders, Flash, Avengers, Green Arrow and Thor.

The Hero Initiative is a charity that raises money for “oldtimers” of the comic book industry and those in need of health care, many of whom only received a paycheck and never received royalties for characters they created or drew.

Hannigan, who is suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, will receive all the profits from “Ed Hannigan: Covered,” to help pay for his medical needs. The collection of Hannigan’s sketches and cover art will be released on Jan. 13.

Due to the disease Hannigan is no longer able to draw, having to give up his childhood dream and form of income.  Hannigan’s conditions will progressively get worse, but he could live for another 10 to 20 years.  Here’s your chance to help support a great in the industry who enriched so many of our childhoods.

Moonstone Entertainment to Donate Profits to Ed Hannigan

During the month of December Moonstone Entertainment, Corp. will donate 100% of the profits of Ed Hannigan’s Skull and Bones graphic novel sold on www.Moonstonebooks.com directly to Hannigan.

Ed Hannigan, a prolific comic artist of the 70’s and 80’s, fondly remembered for his outstanding and innovative covers, is battling multiple sclerosis.  The Hero Initiative has also announced a similar project showcasing Hannigan’s work entitled Hannigan: Covered. Proceeds from this collection also go directly to Hannigan.

Skull and Bones is a mix of a Tom Clancy novel with the action of a James Bond movie with both art and story by Hannigan.  Set in the Yeltsin-era Russa this political-espionage thriller focuses on a disillusioned veteran of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan who plans to strike a death blow against the crumbling Soviet Empire.  However, he is stopped by a mysterious computer wizard who enlists him in a new struggle against his old commander, who plans to unleash a terrible biological weapon.

Moonstone Publisher Joe Gentile had this to say about Hannigan:

Hannigan’s work has always been amongst our favorites, so we’re proud to create this offer. From now until the end of 2009, we’ll donate 100% of the profits of the orders of this graphic novel made on Moonstone’s website.

Although the retail price is $15.95, Moonstone is offering Skull and Bones at a special price: $10.95.

We offer our support to Ed Hannigan, and providing the profits from Skull and Bones, especially during this yuletide season, is a small gesture that we’re so very pleased to make.
