DC Reveals Cover of Dear Super-Villains Graphic Novel and a Surprise for DC Kids FanDome

DC has revealed the cover for the highly anticipated Dear Super-Villains middle grade graphic novel by author Michael Northrop and artist Gustavo Duarte. Dear Super-Villains is the sequel to Michael Northrop and Gustavo Duarte’s smash hit Dear Justice League that debuted in 2019 and is perfect for readers 8-12.

While Dear Justice League featured the world’s greatest Super Heroes answering fan mail from young fans, Dear Super-Villains features the Legion of Doom answering questions from curious kids.

Fans wanting to gear up for the sequel can tune into DC Kids FanDome at DCkidsfandome.com on September 12 where the entire Dear Justice League graphic novel will be available to read for free via the DC Kids comics reader for 24 hours only.

Peek inside the lives of DC’s infamous rogues in DEAR SUPER-VILLAINS, the sequel to DEAR JUSTICE LEAGUE, where curious kids write to notorious scoundrels, asking them about life on the dark side.

How did Gorilla Grodd get so smart? Did Harley Quinn ever try a career in comedy? Why does Catwoman always lose to Batman?

Each chapter highlights members of the Legion of Doom in a sympathetic way that is relatable to kids. But look closely and you may notice the baddies are up to something big! Will the Justice League show up in time to stop them? You’ll have to write in to the Tip-line of Evil to find out!

Dear Super-Villains is written by Michael Northrop with art by Gustavo Duarte, lettering by Wes Abbott, and colors by Cris Peter. It goes on sale April 6, 2021.

DC middle-grade authors Dustin Hansen (My Video Game Ate My Homework) and Michael Northrop (Dear Justice League) are having a live twitter Q&A with each other today at 11 am PT to talk about their personal experience with dyslexia for World Book Day. You can follow them and “watch” at @dusthansen and @mdnorthrop.

The authors will discuss their own struggles with school, how comics and graphic novels helped them, how dyslexia has influenced their writing and writing their first graphic novels.

Wednesdays are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this Wednesday.

Batman: Last Knight on Earth #2 (DC Comics) – The first issue of this series was amazing. It’s the future where something calamatous happened and Batman begins on a journey with just the Joker’s head in a jar to join him. Is this something he’s hallucinating? Reality? The comic will keep you guessing as to what’s happening.

The Batman Who Laughs #7 (DC Comics) – The miniseries wraps up and leads into the upcoming Superman/Batman series. The miniseries has been up and down but we’re excited to see how this wraps up.

Dear Justice League (DC Comics/DC Zoom) – This line of graphic novels geared towards kids have been fantastic and we’re always excited to see what’s next. This middle-grade graphic novel has superheroes answering questions about their lives in a series of short stories.

Death’s Head #1 (Marvel) – This comic was unexpected. Really funny with some solid art. Death’s Head has been torn apart and tunred into an amp. Now he wants revenge!

The Goon #5 (Albatross Funnybooks) – One of the most fun and entertaining comics on the market. Think Popeye with humor and horror and you have The Goon. Add in beyond amazing art and it’s a must get with every release.

Killers #1 (Valiant) – Five deadly assassins are recruited into a game of cat and mouse by the mysterious Jonin! The concept sounds awesome and Valiant delivers entertaining comics so we’re always excited to check out a new series from them.

Knights Temporal #1 (Aftershock) – From writer Cullen Bunn and artist Fran Galan the series is about a knight who’s sent to the modern world. The concept has been done but Bunn is a fantastic writer so to see his spin on this is what has us interested.

Manor Black #1 (Dark Horse) – Another comic from writer Cullen Bunn along with writer Brian Hurtt and artist Tyer Crook, this gothic horror series is about a family of sorcerers in crisis. Yeah, we’re sold.

Powers of X #1 (Marvel) – Writer Jonathan Hickman’s X-Men epic continues with this second of dual series that sets up his vision for years to come.

Red Winter #1 (Scout Comics) – Eli Winter is a former NYPD Detective in his 50s, now living in Kapotnya, the most crime-ridden district of Moscow. Eli also now works for a local crime boss. When Eli finds out his son destroyed his boss’s meth lab, we get a series that we’re excited to read.

DC Comics revealed today a new book trailer and preview artwork for DC Zoom’s forthcoming middle grade graphic novel, Dear Justice League, by New York Times bestselling author Michael Northrop with art by Gustavo Duarte.

Does Superman ever make mistakes? What was Wonder Woman’s eleventh birthday like? Does Aquaman smell like fish? In this new middle-grade graphic novel, iconic heroes are asked questions both big and small, and when they are not busy saving the world, the Justice League even finds time to respond. Their honest and humorous answers will surprise and delight readers of any age, as it turns out that being a superhero is not too different from being a kid.

An exclusive excerpt from the original graphic novel will be given away for free on Free Comic Book Day on May 4, 2019 at participating comic book shops across North America. The full book is slated to hit stores everywhere books are sold on August 6, 2019.

Get a First Look at DC Zoom and DC Ink’s Titles Debuting Fall 2019

DC announced today new details surrounding its young reader imprints—DC Zoom and DC Ink—and revealed first looks at titles scheduled for release in fall 2019. DC Zoom is focused on readers ages 8-12 while DC Ink is focused on readers 13+.

DC has confirmed on-sale dates for the highly anticipated releases as well as early looks at the graphic novels. All are available for pre-order now.

DC Zoom and DC Ink Get the Spotlight for Free Comic book Day

DC announced today the publisher will showcase its upcoming young reader imprints – DC Ink (YA) and DC Zoom (middle grade) – at this year’s Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) on Saturday, May 4, 2019. DC’s free comic book offerings will include early looks at Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale (DC Ink) and Dear Justice League (DC Zoom).

Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale FCBD Special Edition will serve as DC’s Gold Title at the annual event and will feature a free chapter from the upcoming YA original graphic novel by The New York Times bestselling author Lauren Myracle and artist Isaac Goodhart. The full graphic novel is slated to hit stores everywhere books are sold on May 7, 2019.

This FCBD special edition will also include a sneak preview of DC Ink’s upcoming Teen Titans: Raven graphic novel by The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kami Garcia and fan-favorite artist Gabriel Picolo which will hit shelves on July 2, 2019.

DC’s FCBD silver comic book will be a kids title featuring two exclusive free chapters from Dear Justice League, an original graphic novel for middle graders from The New York Times bestselling author Michael Northrop and artist Gustavo Duarte. The DC Zoom graphic novel is slated to hit stores everywhere books are sold on August 6, 2019 and the early FCBD special edition will feature two excerpts starring Superman and Hawkgirl.
