Steve Austen thought he had an easy mission…drop by Japan, stop a bad dude from launching missile, job done. That was BEFORE his cybernetic leg got chopped off. Now he’s gotta fight for his life, fending off countless samurai mercenaries while his body powers down…

CHRISTOPHER HASTINGS (The Unbelievable Gwenpool! Secret Agent Deadpool! Adventure Time! I Am Groot!) and DAVID HAHN (Batman ’66! Bombshells: United!) proudly present a story from a time when there wasn’t internet, but there WERE cyborgs!

It’s the 1970s. Things are going great. Steve Austen (used to be an astronaut, now has robo-parts & a laser eye) heads to Japan to help Secret Agent Niko Abe stop a madman with missiles. Steve figures, no sweat. But then…sweat. How’s Steve going to complete his mission, when his fancy $6,000,000 body starts (DRASTICALLY) depreciating in value!?

The Six Million Dollar Man Returns with Christopher Hastings & David Hahn

Dynamite Entertainment has announced a reimagining of the iconic and bionic 1970s TV sensation, The Six Million Dollar Man. Starting in March 2019, writer Christopher Hastings and artist David Hahn will traverse the globe with Colonel Steve Austin – and hopefully survive the experience!

The time: the 1970s. The place: Japan. Rather than a full team of highly trained soldiers, Japanese secret agent Niko Abe is sent one single man to help her on a mission. Though Steve Austin is not any ordinary man. They must stop a nefarious plan by a madman to exact revenge on the United States for decades-old conflicts.

Things go awry when everyone’s favorite atomic powered agent immediately finds his cybernetically altered body failing him. His $6 million enhancements – $23 million adjusted for inflation in 2018 – are dwindling in value and effectiveness. Any minute now he may be the Six Thousand Dollar Man. He must fight through it though, and against both samurai AND the KGB.

The Six Million Dollar Man #1 will feature colors by Roshan Kurchiyanil and letters by Ariana Maher. As well as covers from Michael Walsh, Yasmine Putri, Francesco Francavilla, and Denis Medri.

Journey back to an era without Internet, but WITH cyborgs!

Harley Quinn and Batman Gets a Prequel Comic and a Sequel

It’s the team-up we’ve been dreaming of as the cute psychopath Harley Quinn joins the brooding Dark Knight for a brand-new Digital First comic series, Harley Quinn and Batman. The series, from Batman: The Animated Series writer Ty Templeton and artist Rick Burchett, is an exciting new five-chapter prequel adventure to the Batman And Harley Quinn animated film coming out this August from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.

Harley Quinn is a legend in her own mind, so when she realizes the Joker thinks of her as a sidekick, she takes her revenge. Harley’s now faced with a hard decision to break out as her own super-villain, and she’s willing to go for it!

The digital series will launch Monday, July 31, with the five chapters being released bi-weekly.

But wait! Where’s the sequel?

Beginning in October, seven sequel chapters will be released digitally each week, and to make it extra-crazy, the names have been flipped! Batman and Harley Quinn is a collection of stories tied to the events of the film. These chapters will feature stories and art by Jeff Parker, Craig Rousseau, Luciano Vecchio, Amanda Deibert, David Hahn, Dario Brizuela, Matthew Dow Smith, Sandy Jarrell, Ty Templeton and more.

All 12 chapters will be collected in trade paperback in summer 2018. Digital chapters will be available for download beginning July 31.

Review: Batman ’66 Meets Wonder Woman ’77 Ch. 1

bm66mww77_ch01-d_sfcoverIt was a matter of time before these two classic properties came together, but we finally have the 1960s Batman meeting the 1970s Wonder Woman in a digital first series that begins with a flashback and I think introduces some more modern characters into the classic setting.

What mysteries are hidden in the book Ra’s al Ghul just hired Catwoman to steal? And why does this caper lead Batman down memory lane-to his childhood fight against actual Nazis?!

Written by Jeff Parker and Marc Andreyko, Batman ’66 Meets Wonder Woman ’77 kicks off with a caper by Catwoman, but quickly dives into the past as Bruce reflects on his childhood and an incident of an auction that was crashed by Nazis and the League of Assassins.

The story is over the top fun as you’d expect with a series such as this bringing together not just the characters but also Ra’s al Ghul, Catwoman, Talia al Ghul, and Nazis in a story that feels like it’s a mix of classic Batman with Indiana Jones.

There’s a certain camp you’d expect when reading this type of story and Park and Andreyko delivers making sure to not take things too seriously and also work it so it feels fairly natural as to how Wonder Woman fits into it all. And since this is a digital chapter which tend to run pretty short, there’s actually a hell of a lot fit in there.

The art by David Hahn continues the style we’ve seen and has become what I’d expect for this setting and these series. It’s solid and I’d be interested in seeing how it flows in comiXology compared to my reading it as single pages in a PDF. So, my reading wasn’t ideal in reality and there may have been some things I missed due to that (Wonder Woman spinning to change could be really cool digitally for instance). Still, it’s solid work that continues the style we’ve seen before.

Overall, it’s a digital chapter, so a bit short for me, but it does pack in a lot and continues the fun tone of classic Batman and Wonder Woman. I can’t wait to read the next chapter and see where things go from here.

Oregon’s Office of Emergency Management and Dark Horse Comics Team Up to Teach Tsunami Preparedness

Oregon’s Office of Emergency Management and Dark Horse Comics team up to prepare for the Great Oregon ShakeOut on October 20 and introduce Without Warning: Tsunami, a new comic touting tsunami preparedness. The 16-page comic strip sequence chronicles a mother/daughter camping trip on the Oregon coast when an earthquake and resulting tsunami strike. The duo stays safe and helps others in danger.

Without Warning: Tsunami is the second time that the partners have come together to collaborate on bringing preparedness messaging to youth. In 2013, OEM’s Geologic Hazards Program Coordinator Althea Rizzo approached Dark Horse with a proposal. An avid comic book fan herself, Rizzo knew that it was a good way to reach a new target audience. In August 2014, Without Warning was released, telling a story of an Oregon teen who reunites with her family after a major Cascadia Earthquake.

Rizzo came up with both stories which were scripted and illustrated by Dark Horse team members Jeremy Barlow and David Hahn.

Oregon is located in the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a 600-hundred mile earthquake fault stretching from offshore Northern California to Southern British Columbia.  According to scientists and other experts, a large 9.0 or higher earthquake could strike Oregon at any time.

Without Warning: Tsunami is available online. Printed copies can be obtained through local county emergency management offices.
