Exclusive: The Lab Press’ Portables Editions launches with Creatures & Corridors, Essentials, and Super Science

As The Lab Press approaches the end of their second year of publishing following a string of award wins for their debut titles, the indie graphic novel publisher launches a range of new compact editions featuring some of their key titles. Designed to appeal to readers who prefer to enjoy their books on the go, these new versions–dubbed Portable Editions–build on The Lab’s ongoing commitment to getting books into people’s hands without compromising on quality or design.

The first three books to receive the Portable Editions treatment are all from The Lab’s first year of publishing–starting with Creatures & Corridors by Brandon Auman and Andrea Mutti; Essentials Volume 1 by Luke Arnold, Chris ‘Doc’ Wyatt, and a vast array of talented artists; and Super Science Volume 1 by N. Alessandro K. and M.K. Perker. Each of these titles has been critically-acclaimed and honored with various accolades for story, art and design, including wins at the prestigious IPPY Awards, Storytrade Awards, Foreword INDIES Awards, and the Independent Book Publishers Association Awards.

In the pages of Creatures & Corridors, a group of friends must face the consequences of the game they started in a world where reality blurs with fantasy. In the summer of 1992, a forbidden role-playing game takes a dark turn for five high school friends, warping reality into a nightmarish fantasy. With bloodthirsty orcs, tentacled horrors, and deadly traps, their home becomes a battleground. Now, they must navigate the game’s perilous challenges, playing for their lives under the sinister scrutiny of a devilish Gamemaster. Blending fantasy, horror, and tabletop RPG storytelling, Creatures & Corridors explores what happens when the game becomes survival.

The first wave of Portable Editions from The Lab Press are available in book and comic shops now, allowing readers to discover (or rediscover) the magic of Creatures & Corridors, Essentials Volume 1, and Super Science Volume 1. Further waves of titles will follow next year with a view to allowing everyone to discover the audacious storytelling The Lab Press have become known for in a format that suits them.

It’s the summer of 1992, and five high school students have come together to play Creatures & Corridors, a rare role-playing game that was banned years earlier for being “too Satanic”. As the kids delve into this forbidden fantasy game, they unwittingly unleash a curse that warps all reality around them. Upstairs, orcs storm the living room and kill their parents; while their front yard turns into a moat filled with tentacled horrors; and their basement “game cave” transforms into a literal dungeon, complete with bloodthirsty monsters and terrifying death traps. Now, the kids are forced to play Creatures & Corridors for their very lives, as a devilish Gamemaster judges their every move.

Creatures and Corridors

Creatures & Corridors is a familiar story but really solid overall with great presentation
