2008 Democratic Convention – Wednesday

A pretty chill day.  I decided to head in to the city and just walk around for most of the afternoon.  I met my boss Delegate Brian Moran at the Big Tent and helped Jerome Armstrong take him around to meet some bloggers.  I then headed over to the convention center to watch the speeches.  The place was packed, can’t imagine what Thursday will be like.

After I headed to the CNN grill and watched the CEO of Google and Bobby Kennedy Jr. treated really rudely by CNN staff which seems to be their m.o. at the place (though their van out on 14th street they were great).

Overall a relax and fun day, just getting ready for the craziness that is Thursday.

2008 Democratic Convention – Tuesday

It was a very long day but a lot of fun.  The morning had me helping out at a women’s caucus event.  I saw Rosario Dawson and Eva Longoria who I didn’t recognize with her new haircut up close.  Between the two Rosario wins, absolutely beautiful.  Helps she’s an avoid geek and writes her own comic books.  Tammy Duckworth headlined the event.

For lunch I headed over to the Denver Art Museum for some event, got a nice tote bag.  About mid afternoon I went the the Mark Warner party which was so packed that they had to take over bars next door.  Saw Harold Ford Jr. there who is a big Warner supporter and was at our Fall Retreat back in the day.

After that I headed back to the Crown hotel and gave up my pass for the night to just relax and watch the convention from the hotel bar and relax knowing I had an amazing night ahead.  So….

The night was all about one man, John Legend.  He headlined the DLC event at the Beta Nightclub.  Played for an hour and you’ll see by the photos the man was about two feet from me.  I got there early and planted my feet.  Met two nice women from Tennessee name Matia and Priscilla.  I knew Matia was going to get pulled up on stage to dance which is what the video is.  It was as great as I thought it would be and I was whipped up the rest of the night from the show.  John Legend is hands down my favorite artist and the man is just amazing live.

After we headed to our Late Night with Brian Moran party which I was able to skip out of to see John Legend.  Spent the rest of the night with the staff bonding.

2008 Democratic Convention – Monday

So I spent the day hanging around Denver, walking around with my friend Andrew. We decided to try to get into the CNN headquarters but were stopped at the security gates. But stopped to have a great lunch with Kathy Lash. We kept walking and I saw the former chairman of the Erie County Democratic Part Steve PIdgeon (really random since I last saw him at the 2004 Dem Convention). We also saw Paul Begala. We decided to head back up 16th Street to check out the protests and people spot.

We met with the crew at the Crown Plaza Hotel at which point we all got credentials to get in to the convention hall. Out of the elevator came a man dressed as Captain Morgan to promote his candidacy for President (some photos taken from my friend Dave will be coming). I took the guest pass which allowed me to wander the upper hallways but not sit down. Which was great because I saw Gov. Warner with Bill Maher (who I shook his hand) and hung out with Gov. Tim Kaine who insisted I join him at the Virginia party (how can I say no to my Governor). I also saw former Gov. Gray Davis and hung with my friend Sarah. I did get to watch the convention on flat screens set up around the convention center.

After the convention we went to the DGA party at a close amusement park and enjoyed the cotton candy, bbq, ice creamand ferris wheel. I met Governor Schweitzer who complimented me on my nice shirt, jeans, and clean white sneakers (very close to his own style). After we headed to the VA’s party where I met Sir Charles Barkley who took a photo with me and when I said “thank you” he then hit me in the arm and said “it’s all good.”

Some video will be posted up later of the protests.

Only every 4 years….
