Event Horizon: Inferno #2 Fleshes Out Some History While Giving an Aliens/Terminator Vibe

Event Horizon: Inferno #2

Two centuries ago, after vanishing for seven years, the starship Event Horizon reappeared near Neptune. Possessed by a demonic entity, the ship murdered most of its rescue crew before it was blown in two. One half fell into a portal to Hell and the other stayed in our solar system. Today, a billionaire, Daniel Durante, leads a crew of private space marines to the wreckage of the Event Horizon to investigate the ship. Durante is dead set on bringing his brother back from the afterlife and the means to do it lies aboard the Event Horizon! But his crew may have something to say about that… Event Horizon: Inferno #2 delivers more of Durante’s insanity while focusing on his ex-wife Skylar.

If Event Horizon the movie is Alien, Event Horizon: Inferno #2 is its Aliens. Witten by Christian Ward, this sequel to the cult-horror film takes us back to the plagued ship with a different motivation than just discovering what happened. Much like Aliens, some members are privy to far more information than provided to the military grunts and just like Aliens, it’ll take a strong, kick-ass woman to save the day.

Event Horizon: Inferno #2 focuses on Durante’s ex-wife Skylar who has been put in stasis due to Druante’s lies about her health. In reality, she’s the sacrifice/trauma engine needed to fuel the starship Event Horizon and allow it to awaken for Druante’s true mission, connecting with his dead brother.

Unlike the film and the prequel comic, there’s people who know what’s occurring in Event Horizon: Inferno and some who are counting on its demonic connections to help them in their mission. It turns the premise into survival horror, much like Aliens with Lieutenant Starck, the last surviving member of the Lewis & Clark, taking on the role of Ripley. This isn’t a bad thing at all and helps deliver something new to the franchise.

Rob Carey‘s art has a nice tense, and dark horror vibe to it. With color by Xenon Honchar and lettering by Alex Ray, the comic features a cold sci-fi look. Like the world of Alien, the tech is futuristic, but also feels grounded and not distracting. There’s a worn feel to everything and Carey and the team also keep things rather simple, in a survival horror sort of way with an axe playing a focus of major drama.

Event Horizon: Inferno #2 is a solid second issue that fleshes out the characters providing more details about the lead up to the mission and horror to come. Unlike the film and prequel comic, it doesn’t go for the imagery to make you squirm, though I’m sure that’s coming. It helps the sequel into a direction and territory that feels fresh and something new beyond just scares.

Odin invites readers into a Dark World by James Tynion IV, Marguerite Bennett, and Letizia Cadonici. Get an early look!

An advance preview of Odin invites readers to step into the dark world of the original limited series co-created by five-time Eisner Award-winning writer James Tynion IV, bestselling writer Marguerite Bennett, and fan-favorite artist Letizia Cadonici. The nine-issue series, produced by Tynion’s production house Tiny Onion and published by Image Comics, follows an undercover journalist reporting on a group of deluded Neo-Nazis foolishly seeking glory and instead facing the wrath of Norse gods. Green Room meets Midsommar with a touch of The Ritual in this relentless, no-holds-barred horror story.

The new preview, sharing the beginning of Odin #1, starts with a visual punch: Odin disemboweled and disfigured, hangs from a tree, being pecked by a group of crows. The next pages offer a glimpse into the journey of journalist Adela, showing her infiltration of a Neo-Nazi punk band who are following a skin map to what they believe to be their promised land where they can rise to full white supremacist power. The series will follow in the frozen footsteps of thrill-seeking Adela as she ventures into the Norwegian forest with the Neo Nazi punks. But what awaits them in the woods is far older and stranger than any of them can comprehend, and no gods are coming to answer their prayers.

Debuting this May, Odin features hallucinogenic colors by Eisner Award winner Jordie Bellaire and sharp letters by the acclaimed Tom Napolitano. The series is cleverly designed by Dylan Todd and edited by horror pros Steve Foxe and Eric Harburn.

Odin will have gorgeous main covers by celebrated comic and album artist Alex Eckman-Lawn, who is illustrating Cover A for the full series. The series will also spotlight variants by series artist Cadonici and all-star artists like Christian Ward, Martin Simmonds, Jae Lee, Annie Wu, Tula Lotay, Sam Wolfe Connelly, Wes Craig, and more.

Event Horizon: Inferno #1 Sets up Some Solid Sci-Fi Horror

Event Horizon: Inferno #1

Space marines clash with demons aboard the Event Horizon in this follow-up to the biggest horror comic of 2025! In 2040, the starship Event Horizon disappeared. Seven years later, it returned possessed by a demonic entity. After murdering its rescue crew, it was blown in half, with the front of the ship left yearning for its heart: a gravity drive designed for interdimensional travel. Two hundred years later, a billionaire brings his own private star fleet to the wreckage around Neptune. He’s heard stories of the Event Horizon and will gleefully sacrifice any number of employees to uncover its secrets! Event Horizon: Inferno #1 is a solid follow up to the film introducing new horrors and more waiting.

There’s few films that completely scare the crap out of me. Event Horizon is the one I struggle to make it through. It’s a film, like Hellraiser, that just unnerves me to the point I feel ill at points watching either of them. I read the prequel comic series Event Horizon: Dark Descent and at times had a similar feel. So, I dove into Event Horizon: Inferno expecting a similar experience, enjoyable but making me squeamish.

Written by Christian Ward, the new series takes us two hundred years after the film, with a new mission to explore the Event Horizon. Event Horizon: Inferno #1 is an intriguing debut introducing a main character in Daniel Durante. Durante comes off as a “billionaire psychopath/sociopath,” a perfect villain for today’s world.

Ward, beyond its rather shocking opening, feels like a general sci-fi story with a team gathered to explore the ship. But, with it all, it’s a slow build that creates tension as we know that hell will break loose at some point. And that tension builds to the end of the issue that will play to fans of the horror series (it’s a reveal that might be lost on those who are new to the property). Ward though, delivers a hell of a lot of detail to introduce the characters to readers and giving the lay of the land.

The art by Rob Carey is solid with color by Xenon Honchar, and lettering by Alex Ray. The comic has a sci-fi style that feels like it mines a lot of previous properties but also very unique in its look. It’s a look that builds a certain expectation as the comic begins (beyond its initial opening) and then slowly shifts as the horror of the comic unfolds. It’s soldiers realizing they’re fubar and the look of it all feels like they’re both prepared and not. It feels like Aliens but demons instead of xenomorphs. There’s also a certain coldness to it all that comes across in the design of everything.

Event Horizon: Inferno #1 does a great job of laying out the characters, the situation, and delivering some surprises in a debut that expands the story and world. So far, it feels a bit more sci-fi than horror, but more guts, gore, and grime is sure to come.

Christian Ward and John J. Pearson Make Art to Die for in The Patron

All the great artists have one thing in common…they’re dead. But why wait for a natural death when you can profit faster from murder? Writer Christian Ward and artist John J. Pearson put their own life’s work on the page in a highbrow thriller at the bloody intersection of art and commerce in The Patron. Ignition Press will begin publishing the new series on July 29th, 2026.

A true patron of the fine arts, Mr. Cherish has dedicated his life to scouting and supporting emerging artists, launching countless unknowns from obscurity into industry superstardom.

Nothing makes a work of art more desirable and valuable to collectors than the passing of its creator, and Cherish has refined his ability to orchestrate spectacular tragedies without leaving a trace…before selling his dead protégés’ oeuvres for massive profits. Painter Matty Barnes is primed to become Cherish’s next ‘hit,’ but when the script is flipped on this latest murder, a shocking twist puts his empire in the crosshairs.
