Review – Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #4

Broken Trinity: Pandora's Box #4 COVA_stampedBroken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #4 is an interesting series.  I feel like this is something that should of wrapped up a bit before the recent start of Top Cow‘s event Artifacts.  This series leads into that, and there’s some cool things here when it comes to characters and always the action is entertaining.  While Artifacts leans a bit towards the emotional, this leans a bit towards the action.

The ARTIFACTS lead-in heats up!
The quest to locate and claim Pandora’s Box forces Finn and Glori to face the full depth of Elias’ depravity, while the legacies of the Ember Stone and Glacier Stone draw them into brutal conflict with each other.

From newcomers Rob Levin (Pilot Season: 7 Days From Hell, The Darkness: Shadows & Flame) and Bryan Edward Hill (Pilot Season: 7 Days From Hell, Broken Trinity: Aftermath), and artist Facundo Percio (Anna Mercury). Featuring covers by Tommy Lee Edwards (Book of Eli, Turf)!

The most interesting part of this story wasn’t so much the action, but the discussion.  We have a man who’s been given enormous power doubting his destiny and contemplating giving it away to someone he thinks can do better.  That dynamic and discussion is interesting.  I’d love to see a series who’s entire plot is around this.

The point of this series is simple and laid out at Baltimore Comic Con.  It can be enjoyed on it’s own, but along with Artifacts it creates a richer and deeper experience.

Broken Trinity: Pandora's Box #3 COVA_stampedHmm, I’m a bit mixed on Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #3Top Cow has shown in other series how you can have a great mix of action, character development and amazing art all in one package.  In this comic we get the action and the art, but the character development seems to be missing.  It’s not that I disliked this issue, it’s a big summer blockbuster.  The problem is, I’ve seen what they do in other series, and that great character aspect is missing here.

The ARTIFACTS lead-in heats up!
Elias and the Disciples of Eden are drawing closer and closer to Pandora’s Box, one of the 13 Artifacts, threatening to remake the world in their mad vision. Meanwhile Finn and Glori, the bearers of the Glacier and Ember Stones, race around the globe to beat the Disciples and each other to the same goal.

From newcomers Rob Levin (The Darkness: Shadows & Flame) and Bryan Edward Hill (Broken Trinity: Aftermath), and artist Alessandro Vitti (Secret Warriors). Featuring covers by Tommy Lee Edwards (1985, Turf)!

The comic is entertaining.  This is a Michael Bay movie in comic form, and some times that’s ok.  But with it tied in so well with Artifacts, it feels like I need a bit more.  That latter series very much has that great mix that this issue seems to have missed.

Review – Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #2

I was nervous going into this second issue as I never read the first.  There’s no need to worry about that when it comes to Broken Trinity: Pandora’s Box #2.  The issue begins with a handy page in the that gives a bit of what was missed in the first issue and the story itself is very straight forward and surprisingly entertaining.

The series sees two individuals searching for a man named Elias who wants Padora’s Box to bring about Armageddon.  The two are enemies, forced to deal with each other to face a bigger enemy.  It’s pretty straight forward.  The story by Rob Levin and Bryan Edward Hill is entertaining and has a world globe trotting feel to it.  The action scenes are decent enough and banter fun.  The art by Alessandro Vitti is a pleasure to look at.

The issue is entertaining and series has a very nice “world’s going to end, globe trotting” feel to it.  This issue alone takes you all over the place including Moscow and Tunisia.  This is a big action movie in comic book form.  Entertainment for entertainment’s sake.  And when it’s done well like this, you can’t ask for much more.

Expanded coverage as well as our scores are below.
