Seven Secrets #1

Wednesdays (and now Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Big Girls #1 (Image Comics) – When giant monsters attack, it’ll take 300-foot-tall women to take them on. There’s some potential in this comic but there’s a chance it can go into cringe territory too. We’re intrigued to see what writer/artist Jason Howard delivers with the first issue.

Billionaire Island #4 (AHOY Comics) – Not sure how this series will wrap up in just one issue but it’s been an entertaining skewering of the rich.

Cruel Summer (Image Comics) – This fantastic Criminal arc gets collected in a hardback edition with additional material. If you missed it in single issues, go get this collection. It’s crime/noir at its best.

Empyre #5 (Marvel) – Last issue had some surprises and this one delivers more as the battle looks desperate.

Join the Future #4 (AfterShock) – The series has a solid futuristic western vibe and the idea of giant corporations taking on those who want a simpler life feels like the exact type of story you’d expect in the genre.

Old Haunts #3 (AWA Studios) – This horror/mob story has been intriguing and we really want to see where it goes. There’s a lot of different directions and potential set up so far.

Seven Secrets #1 (BOOM! Studios) – A new series from Tom Taylor and Daniele Di Nicuolo and that by itself should be enough to sell it. But, the concept of the idea of a secret society protecting secrets has us intrigued as well as we want to find out what the secrets are!

Transformers: Galaxies #8 (IDW Publishing) – The second part of “Gauging the Truth” that dives more into one of the Transformers’ factions/religions.

Vlad Dracul #2 (Scout Comics) – Based on the real story of Vlad, we’re not sure what’s history and what’s fiction but it’s entertaining so far.

Yasmeen

Wednesdays (and now Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Backfired #1 (Source Point Press) – The concept of this series sounds interesting. It’s about a writer who needs to perfect the pitch for his comic while balancing his life.

Bad Reception #5 (AfterShock) – The finale of this series that’s been fantastic every issue. Who will survive this slasher series? We can’t wait to find out!

Batman #95 (DC Comics) – The Joker War is ramping up and with Wayne Enterprise siezed by the Joker, it leaves Batman and Bruce Wayne in a difficult spot.

Billionaire Island #3 (AHOY Comics) – It’s an attempt to escape the island in this perfectly timed satire.
Canopus #4 (Scout Comics) – All of the mysteries are revealed in this final issue of the series. Expect this one to be on quite a few “best of” lists for the year.

Hellions #2 (Marvel) – A Suicide Squad like series with troubled Mutants. The first issue was really solid and it’ll be interesting to see how justice is handled in Krakoa with this group.

No Heroine #1 (Source Point Press) – It’s a “hot” comic already going for well over cover on the secondary market. Drugs. Vampires. Punk rock. Clawing her way to her 90th day sober, Kayla sets out to find her missing friend, Sid – the one person she knows can keep her on the straight-and narrow.

Unrig (:01 First Second) – Elections and the political process are pretty broken. Find out whay that’s the case and what can be done in this educational graphic novel.

Vlad Dracul #1 (Scout Comics) – The story of the man behind the myth. It’ll be interesting to see how historically accurate this is and what new things we might learn.

Xira #1 (Red 5 Comics) – A story of a chimpanzee who has been experimented on her whole life and when she has a baby, she does what she can to get herself and child to freedom.

Yasmeen #1 (Scout Comics) – A refugee from ISIS, Yasmeen must learn to survive in a new country and society who fears and hates her while dealing with the horrors of her past.

The Goon #11

Wednesdays (and now Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in!

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

All-America Comix (Image Comics) – Joe Casey and Dustin Nguyen reteam for this new hero that has been teased for quite some time. We’re excited that we finally get to see what the hype was all about.

Billionaire Island #2 (AHOY Comics) – The infiltration of Billionaire Island is on! We’re totally here for it in this biting satire from Mark Russell and Steve Pugh.

Child Star (:01 First Second) – Box Brown’s graphic novel is a biography of Owen Eugene, a fictional 1980s child actor. Brown’s work is amazing and it’s never to be missed.

The Goon #11 (Albatross Funnybooks) – The Goon is like an over the top Popeye. Always funny and entertaining it’s filled with action and humor and most importantly, fun.

Mystery (Van Ryder Games) – We came across this interesting concept at Gen Con last year. It’s a mix of graphic novel and choose your own adventure/roleplaying game. A really great concept and idea.

Nailbiter Returns #2 (Image Comics) – The horror comic is back and the first issue was like revisiting an old friend, in that horror movie sequel sort of way.

Negan Lives #1 (Image Comics/Skybound) – We’re intrigued by this surprise release set in the world of The Walking Dead.

Streamliner Vol. 1 (Magnetic Press) – The action series from Fane gets collected. “An abandoned stretch of road in the middle of the desert, a rusty old gas station, and a plume of dust rising in the distance…” That intro description alone has us interested.

Vampire State Building (Ablaze) – The vampire genre gets mixed with a bit of Die Hard as Vampires take over the Empire State Building and a group of survivors attempt to escape.
