Ivy City brewery Atlas Brew Works is partnering with Washington DC’s Comic Con Awesome Condebuting Hop Bot, a limited-release pale ale canned exclusively for the convention and available for purchase at local restaurants on Monday, April 22, and the brewery’s Tap Room starting Friday, April 26, while supplies last.

The seventh annual Awesome Con returns to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from Friday, April 26, to Sunday, April 28. Before then, guests can visit outstanding area restaurants and bars, including The Capital Burger, City Tap Penn Quarter, Espita Mezcaleria, Iron Horse Tap Room, Jackpot, Lost & Found, Morris American Bar, Moxy Washington, DC Downtown, and Penn Social.

The blend was derived to play off the iconic robot face that has become emblematic of Awesome Con since it began in 2012 and will be used on the cans and tap handles at participating locations.

“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition Beer Nationally Released by Shmaltz Brewing Company!

Shmaltz Brewing Company brought to the official Star Trek Las Vegas Convention 2018 a unique Collector’s Edition release commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. 2018 marks 25 years since Star Trek: Deep Space Nine premiered in 1993. CBS Studios has teamed up with Shmaltz for the only officially licensed Star Trek beers in the United States.

In 2016, Shmaltz debuted two critically acclaimed Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ales to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic franchise, Star Trek. 2017 brought quadruple the excitement commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation with four limited edition Star Trek specialty beers under license by CBS Consumer Products: Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter (7.3% ABV), Star Trek Symbiosis (5.5% ABV), Star Trek Captain’s Holiday (5.5% ABV), and Star TrekMirror Universe (5% ABV). In August 2018, the latest offering Star Trek Profit Motive transports itself in 4-packs to retail outlets and will be available on draft at select bars in 30 states across the country through Shmaltz’s new national sales relationship with Artisanal Imports.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 25th Anniversary Ale — Profit Motive
Quark’s Bar, Grill, Gaming House and Holosuite Arcade is the central attraction of Deep Space 9’s Promenade, offering drink, food, gossip, gambling, and fantasy fulfillment. Quark, the establishment’s proprietor, is a Ferengi entrepreneur and sometimes petty criminal who conducts all his business in gold pressed latinum. Quark, like all Ferengi, is motivated by profit and piling up strips, bars and bricks of latinum.

Shmaltz Brewing Company is hyper motivated to brew high quality award-winning beer, and the hopped up golden ale Star Trek Profit Motive is no exception. Whether you’re a Trekkie or a craft beer enthusiast, get motivated to drink this latest extraterrestrial offering in the Star Trek beer series. Gar-day latinum sou-tah! (This is worth its weight in latinum.)

“Star Trek” Captain’s Holiday Craft Beer Commemorates 30th Anniversary of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”

Just in time for the upcoming holiday season, Shmaltz Brewing Company nationally releases a new Collector’s Edition beer commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Shmaltz Brewing is following its summer release of Star Trek Symbiosis with the latest tropical getaway that’s brewed with orange peel and lime, Star Trek Captain’s Holiday. CBS Studios has teamed up with Shmaltz for the only officially licensed Star Trek beers in the United States.

In 2016, Shmaltz debuted two critically acclaimed Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ales to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic franchise. 2017 brings triple the excitement with the limited release of three Star Trek specialty beers rolling out throughout the year. Under license by CBS Consumer Products, the first extraterrestrial elixir of 2017 was Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter (7.3% ABV). Star Trek Symbiosis launched at Comic-Con International in July 2017. This week, Star Trek Captain’s Holiday transports itself in 4-packs to retail outlets in 35 states across the country and will be on draft at select bars.

Star Trek: The Next Generation 30th Anniversary Ale — Captain’s Holiday

You don’t have to be a Starfleet Captain or negotiate a difficult trade agreement between the Gemarians and the Dachlyds to deserve a little rest and relaxation. In the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Captain’s Holiday,” the crew convinces Captain Picard to take a much-needed vacation on the pleasure planet Risa. Number One (Commander Riker) tricks the Captain into buying a small statue called a Horga’hn when he arrives. After being accosted by a steady stream of women, he is told that displaying the statue in public suggests he is seeking Jamaharon. Whether for Jamaharon or simpler moments of pleasure, Shmaltz’s tropical getaway should be perfect for kicking back and escaping the stresses of everyday life here on Earth.

Enjoy the lemon, lime and orange citrus flavors of Captain’s Holiday Ale and engage in a well-deserved vacation with every sip!

Defending the Night, One Beer at a Time.

20170914_200254

Write drunk, edit sober was never a truer statement. With New York Comic Con less than a month away, this past Thursday I journeyed to the far away land of Brooklyn (not really) for the sixth annual launch of the Brooklyn Defender.

Not a comic or Netflix spinoff, the Brooklyn Defender is a specially crafted beer made by Brooklyn Brewery for New York Comic Con and ReedPOP, the organizers behind Comic Con.

For the past few years Brooklyn Brewery and ReedPOP have collaborated on this beer, designing the bottles label by recruiting comic book artists like Cliff Chang, Khary Randolph and Jamal Igle to help create the look of that years Defender. According to the ReedPOP representative Fallon Prinzivalli, this year was a “special year as it’s the sixth time or 6-pack” Defender team-up with Brooklyn Brewery. This year had a departure from previous years as it looks like the art chores were handled in house by Brooklyn Brewery with a retro silver age style, cape, underwear on the outside, and even emphasizing the four color spot process of making comics. As a beer drinker, I love the Brooklyn Brewery brand and I’m generally ok with the Defender beers, I found this year’s crisp, flavorful and light, a definite step up from a solid beer, the Brooklyn Defender gets 4 capes.

Ms. Prinzivalli also told me that “for the first time ever we have a couple of backdrops and props that people are going to be creating their own story of them defending beer with their friends. So then we’ll have a giant fan going that you can stand in front of and you can pretend that you’re flying through the clouds of New York City.” In addition to the Instagram contest, there was also a raffle and cosplay contest, with winners taking home 3 day passes to Comic Con.

Fans who were lucky enough to make it onto the rsvp list were also treated to free pizza from local pizzeria Sizzle Pizza, cake, and of course a bottle of the latest batch of the Defender beer.

Brooklyn Defender can be found all around New York Comic Con which runs October 5-8th, but will still be available well after.

Gen Con Expands Even More Into Lucas Oil Stadium and Name Sun King Brewing’s Beer

Gen Con is increasing its 2017 presence within Lucas Oil Stadium (LOS), adding exhibition and event space to the same play field used by the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts. To commemorate 2017’s historic Gen Con 50, the convention will create a showcase area on the LOS field that honors the first Gen Con, held in the 1967. In this space, attendees will get to see gaming artifacts and tributes to the early Gen Con events, including a homage construction of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin’s Horticultural Hall.

As part of this new space agreement, Gen Con’s already large games library space will relocate from the Indiana Convention Center, expanding further in its new location on the LOS field. Game companies such as Co-Sponsor Mayfair Games, Twilight Creations, WizKids Games, and numerous event organizers will host activities in this new space. True Dungeon and Anime & Animation events will return to Lucas Oil Stadium. Free-to-play Kids’ events will have a dedicated space, as well. Further event details will become available in May.

Badges are currently available and registration for ticketed events, including those held at Lucas Oil Stadium, will begin on May 28 at noon (Eastern).

It’s time! The naming contest for Sun King’s Official Beer for the historic Gen Con 50 has begun! The Gen Con and Sun King teams need your help to come up with a signature name for an all-new, amazing brew.

If you’ve never participated before, this naming contest will determine the Official Beer name for the brew created in collaboration with Gen Con and its Promotional Partner, Sun King Brewing.

Will your submitted names have what it takes to join former winners? Past winners include 20-Sided Rye, Drink on and Prosper Aler, Froth of Khan, Flagon Slayer, and Ale of Destiny.

Help the Sun King and Gen Con teams come up with the perfect name for this year’s beer, and you can win the Grand Prize of two (2) complimentary badges to your choice of Gen Con 50 or Gen Con 2018. Featuring a label emblazoned with the artwork of Valiant-exclusive superstar Lewis LaRosa, Pipeworks’ brand-new beer creation will make its official debut on Friday, April 21st at the C2E2 2017: X-O Manowar Galactic Golden Ale Release Part – from 7 to 11 pm CT at Chicago’s Cobra Lounge (235 N. Portions of the proceeds from the event’s $5 door charge and all pints of X-O Manowar Galactic Golden Ale poured will be donated to Hope for the Day, supporting their suicide prevention outreach and mental health education projects. RSVP online at Facebook or Eventbrite.

Pipeworks Brewing Co.’s X-O Manowar Galactic Golden Ale is a limited release and will be available in select Illinois and New York bottle shops. Find participating retailers and distributors via Pipeworks’ location page, or visit them directly Thursday through Saturday at the Pipeworks Brewing Co. Bottle Shop (3912 W Mclean Ave., Chicago, IL 60647).

Shmaltz Brewing Releases “Star Trek” Klingon Imperial Porter

klingon-imperial-porterIn 2016, Shmaltz Brewing debuted two critically acclaimed Star Trek Golden Anniversary Ales to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the iconic franchise, Star Trek. 2017 brings triple the excitement with the limited release of three Star Trek specialty beers rolling out throughout the year. Under license by CBS Consumer Products, the first extraterrestrial elixir of 2017 is Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter (7.3% ABV). Six malts including Specialty 2-Row, Vienna, Melanoidin, Crystal, Honey, and Pale Chocolate are masterfully brewed with two hops, Columbus and Vanguard. Lifting off this week, Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter transports itself in 4-packs to retail outlets in 35 states across the country and will be on draft at select bars.

Fans can raise a goblet of Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter to the strongest warriors in the Galaxy, and discover the ruby undertones that pay homage to Klingon Bloodwine and fallen warriors who hold honor above life. “There is no honor in attacking the weak,” so take pleasure in besieging this 7.3% ABV Imperial Porter. But like this mighty brew, Klingons also have a sweet side: Witness the wedding ritual where the gods forge two hearts so strong that once joined together cannot be opposed. (Just ignore the part of the ceremony where the groom swings his bat’leth at the bride!)

A Klingon proverb states: “Death is an experience best shared,” and so is the first Star Trek limited release of 2017. Qapla’!

Enjoy Star Trek Klingon Imperial Porter at the following events across the country:
February 28: Star Trek Trivia Night @ My Parent’s Basement, Avondale Estate, GA
March 2: Klingon Hop Orgy Party @ The Factory Eatery, Ballston Spa, NY
