The Miniest figure is often the Mightiest.

The Diamond Select Minimates are some of the best figures ever made. The designers at Art Asylum have created hundreds of characters from a wide variety of comic books, movies, video games and TV shows. The Marvel Minimates are by far the most popular and have been seeing steady releases for over 10 years! To celebrate, Diamond Select is releasing a 3rd wave of the “Best Of Marvel” series.

marvel3

The series will consist of:

  • Marvel Now Captain America & Modern Spider-Man
  • Transforming Grey Hulk & Extremis Iron Man
  • Classic Hawkeye & Ant-Man
  • Luke Cage Power & Iron Fist

Diamond has been including a lot more accessories of late and this “Best Of” wave stays the course. Grey Hulk has extra pieces to allow a transformation from Banner into Grey Hulk (a series first) and Ant-Man comes with a lab coat to rock a Hank Pym look. The Luke Cage and Iron Fist set includes accessories from looks the characters have had during their long histories. The biggest score from the series is probably the Hawkeye. A Modern Hawkeye was recently released in a Toys R Us 2-pack, but this one is a great update of the Classic Hawkeye release we saw 6 years ago (not including the hard to find Disney Exclusive Avengers Box set). The “Best of Marvel” Wave 3 arrives this summer.

In a nice Minimate double-dip, we get our first look at the set from X-Men: Days of Future Past. The newest X-Men film seems rather light on the merchandise, and these minimates might be all the figure love we get from our merry mutants’ latest romp.

The serieDays-of-Future-Past-Minimatess will consist of:

  • Future Professor X & Past Magneto
  • Future Magneto & Past Mystique
  • Future Wolverine & Future Storm
  • Past Logan & Past Charles Xavier

It’s a little funny how the 8 figures actually represent only 5 characters. Time travel is great! The pairings are also a little odd, mixing the future and past versions of different characters together. Also, Storm? Really? I’m pretty sure, oh, KITTY PRYDE plays a bigger part in the film than Storm. Oh well. Like other minimate sets, the X-Men: Days of Future Past figures will come with movie-specific accessories for each character. Look for these to arrive this summer.

Captain Picard Gets Packaged! Plus: Star Trek on Ice!

Star Trek fans who have gotten the chance to play with the first two figures in the Star Trek Select action figure line have been waiting for their chance to get their hands on the next one, and he’s almost here! Captain Jean-Luc Picard, from Star Trek: The Next Generation, will be joining the original series’ Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock in the 7-inch scale, and we’ve got packaging shots!

Dynamically sculpted by Patrick Pigott, Art Asylum’s lead Star Trek figure sculptor since 2003, Picard’s default stance is firing a phaser at an unseen foe, but seven points of articulation in his upper body allow him a wide range of expressive poses. Also, his hands and legs are interchangeable with other figures in the Select line, which means you’ll be able to give him Mr. Spock’s classic Tricorder and Phaser. He stands atop a base representing the interior of a Borg cube, and the torso and arm of an exploded Borg rests at his feet. The parts are also removable from the base, so you can take them back to the Enterprise for study when the figure hits stores in late December.

Then, when Picard gets back from his mission, it’s time to kick back and relax at Ten-Forward, with the new Star Trek: TNG Silicone Tray. Hitting stores around the same time as Picard, you can fill it with water, chocolate or gelatin to make a frosty drink or a tasty snack, all in the shape of the Starfeet Insignia and the Enterprise-D! Make it so!

Reserve your Picard and tray today at your local comic shop or favorite online retailer!

The Walking Dead Minimates Come to Life in a New Short Film

The third series of The Walking Dead Minimates hits comic shops and specialty stores on June 12th, and has already been spotted at Toys “R” Us. To commemorate the occasion, Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum have put together a short film starring all of the TWD Minimates to date, and it’s not for the faint of heart!

With photography and editing by Alex Kropinak, a voiceover by Chris Ward and music by Matt Takacs, the film draws on Rick’s famous speech from the prison arc of the groundbreaking comic book, setting it to some of the most horrifying Minimates images you have ever seen. Check out the film below, and look for Series 3 in your local store!

New ThunderCats Get New Minimates in the Thundercats Ho! Box Set!

Fan reaction to Icon Heroes‘ line of Classic ThunderCats Minimates has been phenomenal, and Art Asylum has been putting everything they have into their designs for the two-inch mini-figure line. Now, they’ve put together a brand-new box set based on the TV-movie ThunderCats Ho!, and Icon Heroes is making this set more widely available than ever!

Featuring “new” ThunderCats Bengali, Lynx-O, Pumyra and Ratar-O, as well as a non-poseable minifigure of the Berbil named Ro-Bear Bert, this box set is available to all comic shops and specialty store retailers through Diamond Comic Distributors’ Previews catalog.  Now available for pre-order, the set will ship in the fall.

The three new ThunderCats in this set – blacksmith Bengali, healer Pumyra and wise, sightless Lynx-O – were introduced in the five-part 1985 movie “ThunderCats Ho!” as three Thunderans who came to Third Earth in the wake of Thundera’s destruction. Ro-Bear Bert was on of the two Berbils who saved the trio from the doomed planet, and Ratar-O was the Mutant commander who sought to capture them for the evil Mumm-Ra.
