Sicko #1 delivers an interesting concept that has some potential depth

Valentine Virago has always struggled with her health. Her rare autoimmune disorder has defied all treatment, and as she grew older, it defied even classification. You see, Valentine can take her immune system and weaponize it. What would just be a normal sneeze to the rest of us, she can turn into a projectile of bloody miasma. Just as a start.

Fed up with being a test subject, poked and prodded by pushy doctors, Valentine has gone on the lam in search of the freedom to be herself. Unfortunately, interested parties want her back in their care, and they are sending goons in hazmat suits. Led by Jono, her one-time nurse and potential love interest, they’re offering her a spot in a private medical facility run by Jono’s parents. Val isn’t one for institutions, however, and what some may see as a safe haven, she sees as a prison— and who wants to be trapped in a prison, when you’re already trapped in your own body?

SDCC 2026: AJ Mendez, Aimee Garcia, and Ildy Modrovich Team Up for East Side Saints

East Side Saints

Ignition Press revealed the news at ComicsPRO’s Annual Meeting in February of this year that three superstar creators would be working with the publisher: New York Times bestselling author, screenwriter, and pro wrestling legend AJ Mendez; actress, director, screenwriter, and producer Aimee Garcia; and showrunner, screenwriter, and producer Ildy Modrovich.

As part of the Ignition Sequence leading up to Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), Ignition Press has revealed that this trio has co-created a brand-new comic series, East Side Saints. It will debut in mid-2027.

Fifteen-year-old Alex Gomez isn’t legally allowed to see R-rated movies without an adult, but she’s just inherited the family’s demon-hunting business. Armed with a bruja (witch) Abuelita and zero training, this irresponsible Latina teen must battle monsters on the streets of East LA… but a family secret will make things even more difficult for her. This is East Side Saints: a coming-of rage story.

The three co-creators’ vision is being brought to life by artist Amilcar Pinna and colorist Amanda Grazini, the pair currently working on Sicko with writer Tini Howard.

Mendez and Garcia co-founded Scrappy Heart Productions, which is dedicated to elevating diverse perspectives with universal themes and making underdogs the heroes of their own stories across all media. The pair have previously co-written the comic series Day of the Dead Girl from Magma Comics and IDW Comic’s GLOW and Dungeons & Dragons. After making Lucifer one of Netflix’s highest streamed series of all time and a beloved fan-favorite franchise, this will be Modrovich’s first comic book series.

The three co-creators will appear at Comic-Con International for an exclusive signing on Saturday, July 25th at from 3:30pm – 4:30pm in room 33C. This free, ticketed event will have 120 tickets available through the SDCC mobile portal in accordance with their signing lottery policy. Interested fans need simply need to login into their SDCC Member ID and allocate credits toward the signing lottery. A FAQ can be found HERE. Tickets include an exclusive print by Amilcar Pinna, which the creators of East Side Saints will sign in addition to one extra item. Selfies are allowed.

Owl-eyed fans who keep their eyes peeled at the show may spot additional East Side Saints related sightings…

What if George Lucas and Quentin Tarantino f@#&ed and had a baby? That baby would be Curt Pires and Amilcar Pinna’s GALACTIC. An ultraviolent interstellar romance that tells the story of a roguish bounty hunter hired to bring back a Princess on a death-bender on a hippy planet, and inadvertently find themselves caught in the crossfire of an intergalactic war.

And maybe, just maybe, falling in love along the way!

Did we mention there’s a talking dog who pilots the starship?!

A Dangerous New Adversary Enters the Scene in Lost Fantasy #6

The bestselling, white-hot action/adventure series Lost Fantasy by fan-favorite writer Curt Pires and artist Luca Casalanguida will introduce an all-new adversary to the story in the upcoming Lost Fantasy #6. This exciting new entry will take readers to the darkest corners of The World Beneath, feature another bonus story co-written by singer/songwriter/comics writer Franklin Jonas, and hit shelves next month from Image Comics.

This key issue will also boast a variant cover by superstar artist Amilcar Pinna, which features a character making their first appearance in the issue and will be pivotal to Lost Fantasy and the spinoffs moving forward.

Still reeling from last issue’s shocker, Henry takes on his most personal investigation yet—one that pulls him deep into The World Beneath’s shadows and straight into the path of a dangerous new threat and a deadly new foe. Meanwhile, back at Blackheart Academy, Nihlas is just finding his footing when he stumbles upon a clue that could blow the murder case wide open.

In Lost Fantasy, there’s a magical world that lies beneath ours, and first contact was made over a hundred years ago between the two worlds due to a natural disaster, resulting in a schism that allowed monsters to break through. Since then, secret monster slayers, known as The Great Hunters, have been working with global leaders to police the border and to keep our world safe from the creatures that lurk in the shadows. But something broke through resulting in a mysterious mass killing in Montana, and causing things to shift in a way that will ripple through both worlds. Safety now rests in the hands of rookie monster hunter Henry Blackheart.

Lost Fantasy #6 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, December 31:
